The toast was enthusiastically drunk with musical
honours . 'The VV . M ., in reply , said that he felt proud to be in the position he was that evening , and assured the brethren that he heartily reciprocated their kind sentiments . During his travels he had always found a good welcome from Alasons in all parts of the world , still he was glid to return to his native town and mjit his old friends ; h ; would make no rash promises , but he asked the support of his officers in
carrying out his duties , and if they all pulled together he thought they would have a very good year . The VV . AL next proposed " lhe Alasonic Charities . " Bro . J . II . Sillitoe , Chairman of the East Lincishire Chanty Committee , responding , in a very able and interesting speech , stated that the financial year of the liist Lancashire Systematic Masonic Educational aud Benevolent Institution , which had just closed , wis , as to doniti > ns and
subscriptions , the most successful they hid ever experienced , as the income under this heading alone was jt ' iyi 7 , whicli , with interest and dividends , would reach considerably over ^ . ' 2300 . He hojied , lu . vever , that the brethren would not relax in their endeavours to add still greater success to this as well as the London Institutions . So far as they in IC 1 st Lancashire were concerned , they would want all the help they could get in carrying out their
new Annuity Scheme , as well as thi advancement < i ( the children when they left the schools . Bro . Pollard , S . VV ., proposed " The Visiting Brethren , " to which Bros . J . H . Calvert , 1519 ; A . Temple , loij ; and J . G . Ainsworth responded . The toast of " The Installing Master " was proposed by thc W . AL , who said that they were all greatly indebted to Bro . Sillitoe for the able and impressive manner in which
his duties had been performed . The toast was enthusiastically received with musical honours , as Bro . Sillitoe is deservedly popular * in every part of this extensive province . Bro . Sillitoe , in reply , expressed the pleasure it had bien to him to attend and instal a brotherof suca vast experience as well as such an excellent Alason as Bro . Bear . He ( Bro . Sillitoe ) had , like the VV . AL , travelled a little abroad , and
knew what receptions English Alasons generally met with . He was , however , beginning to think that younger Masons than himself would soon put him on the shelf . It was 23 years that day since he was lirst installed as VV . M . For 22 years he had been travelling up and down that and the neighbouring provinces performing . Masonic ceremonies , and if the jatirneys were put together they would exceed 36 . 000 miles in extent . lie had occasion to refer to . his
old diaries the other day , and could easily verify that tact . He thought that was a fair share of work foranuipiid officer to perform . He heartily thanked the W . AL and brethren for their hospitality that evening . Other toasts followed . The evening was enlivened with songs and glees by
Bros . Watson , Hartley , Procter , Bury , Ingham , Longworth , Calveit , Whittaker , and Murgatroyd , accompanied by Bro . Lonsdale . The evening was brought to a close , and was proaounced by all present to be one of the pleasanlest gatherings they had ever attended .

Bear , who , in following out the requirements of his business , had travelled round the glob 2 three times , and had seen a gojd deal of Freemasonry in every clime .
