BIBLIOl HECA SUNDERLANDIANA . Sale Catalogue . Second Poition . The second poition of thc Sale Catalogue of the " Great Sunderland Library , " and which sale , by the way , is to commence on Monday , April 17 th this year , and continue to the . "th of the same month , will be found to contain books ot immense interest for the book-collector and the book-lover . We are struck when we open the catalogue
with a remarkable series of Chronicles , French , Latin , Spanish , Portuguese , Limousin , and amon ^ them the . first edition of the " Clironiqucs de Normandie , " printed at Rouen by Guillaume Tailleur , in May , 14 S 7 ; and the first edition , though only Vol . 1 , unlortunately , of the "Croniquo de bt . Denis . " We note also the " The Chronica del Rey Don Rodrigo , ' , printed in Hispali by Lazaro de Gayanis , 14 . 1 ' j . 'This volume is said to Ir : unique . There is another
chionicle , entitled " 'lhe Coronica dc Noble Cavallero Guarino Mesquino , " printed in Seville by Juan Varela , March 15 th , 15 J 7 . The next remarkable feature in this catalogue is the wonderful number of the editions of " Cicero . " W ' e have probably here eveiy edition either of the collected or separate works published to the end of the reign uf George 1 . There are , in fact , no less than 305 lots relating to " Cicero . " 'The " ICditioncs Princincs " of
certain portions are remarkable , and we have , of course , editions of the " Aldi , " " Steplnns ' s , " the " Junti , " " S . Colin , " " Gryptiius , " and others . 'There is an illustrated Clarendon's History , with 300 portrails , the Memoires do Confines , and a series of rare Italian plays . Among the MSS . we note the works of S . Chrysostom , Gregory of Antioch , Gregory of Niuianzen , thirteenth century , a
Palimpsest Codex in letters , containing an Uncial MS . of the Gospels of the eighth century , the works of Ephreni Syrus in Greek , thirteenth century ; and two Greek service books , thirteenth and fourteenth centuries . 'There is also a remarkable collection of rare editions of Dante , and among them a MS . " Inferno , " fifteenth century . There will be a great light , we apprehend here . There are 500 lots of books and tracts
relating to French affairs , ranging from 1303 to 1 O 63 , 100 years , and some of them are perfectly unique and uf exceptional value . 'There are many Editiones Principes of thc Fathers , and various valuable works , and a large collection of "Councils . " Among the books printed on vellum , many of which will fetch high prices , may be mentioned the Editio Princeps of Aulus Gellius Konue , 14 O 9 , for whicli
there will no doubt bc a loii" struggle . 1 here are book's in beautiful bindings , and books of remarkable rarity , so that it is not too much to say and to predicate of this second gathering that it will probably not yield in interest or be less pecuniarily successful than the first one . We may also note that Hie first editions of thc " Dialogus Crcaturarum Moralizatus , and the " Gesta Romanoruni , " both printed in London by Gerard Leeuw in 14 S 0 , occur fo . sale .
LUDGATE HILL : PAST AND PRESENT . A Narrative concerning the People , Places , Legends , and Changes of the Great London Highway . Illustrated with numerous engravings . First Edition of Twenty Thousand . London : Griffiths and Farran , successors to Newbery and Harris , West Corner of St . Paul's Churchyard , and 2 , Ludgate-hilb There are few parts of Old London which have so many and such rich and varied associations as Ludgate-hill Some may give priority to Flcet-itrect , chiefly , no doubt
