gold jewel in appreciation of the excellent manner in which he had discharged his duties during the past year . 1 he lodge having been closed , the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where they sat down to an elegant banquet , supplied by Bro . J . Sayers , whose catering gave every satisfaction . The newly-installed VV . M ., Bro . D . T . Bostel , presided . The customary loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

Provincial Meetings.

Bro . J . M . Reed also responded , remarking that the Prov . Grand Officers were always ready to do their utmost to advance the interests of the province . Bro . VV . B . Isworth , in proposing "The Worshipful Master , " said it was a toast which he was sure would be received with acclamation , for the appointment of their VV . M . had received the unanimous approval of the brethren .

Bro . Bostel had , he said , been assiduous in his attention to the duties of the offices he had filled in the lodge , and he was certain that , at the end of the year , the brethren would say that their VV . M . had carried out his duties to the satisfaction of the members of the lodge . Bro . Bostel , who was warmly received , thanked the brethren for the kind manner in which they had received

the toast . In all his actions he had based his work upon a strict adherence to the demands of duty . Guided by the principles of Freemasonry , and with the able assistance of his officers , he hoped to give satisfaction to the brethren . He could not say more , and he failed , he said , to find words to thank the brethren sufficiently for the hearty reception they had given to the toast .

The W . M . gave "The Visitors , " to which Bros . J . P . Slingsby Roberts , J . M . Kidd , and T . Billing responded . Bro . VV . Kuhe , who now entered the room , was enthusiastically received by the brethren . Bro . A . J . Hawkes embraced the opportunity of proposing his health . Bro . Kuhe was , he said , the father of the lodge , and since its consecration had never failed to attend

the annual installation meeting . He was proud to see him amongst them again , and delighted that he had not broken his record . Bro . Kuhe had given the lodge its support during its infancy and childhood , and maintained his close connection with it till the lodge was strong enough to run alone . Bro . Kuhe said the hearty reception accorded him

reminded him of the overwhelming reception given to Mr . Santley a few days' since on his return to the concert room . That eminent baritone was overcome on the occasion , and the brethren should bear in mind that young fellows like himself —( laughter )—were subject to nervousness . He always looked forward to the last Tuesday in January with pleasure , and kept that day open for visiting his old lodge .

Since writing to say he would be present he had undertaken a professional engagement at Chichester-terrace , but only on condition that he could visit the lodge during the evening for a few words and a pianoforte solo . He had been driven down to the Pavilion , and the carriage was awaiting him to take him back to Chichester-terrace . Bro . Kuhe supplemented his speech with a pianoforte

solo , and then withdrew from the banqueting room . •The VV . M . proposed "The Past Masters , " to which Bros . Isworth and Edwards responded . Bro . F . E . Sawyer , in an admirable speech , gave "The Initiates , " which was acknowledged by Bros . Shepherd , Neall , Hucks , Gwatkin , and Crouch . " The Officers of the Lodge , " proposed by Bro . Isworth , was responded to by Bros . F . E . Sawyer and J . Wood , and

the Tyler ' s toast completed the list . During the evening a pleasing programme of vocal music arranged by Bro . G . Cole , P . M ., P . P . G . O ., was ably sustained by Miss Maud Bond , Miss Darlington , Miss Edith Cole , Bros . A . Neall , F . J . Cully , VV . N . Roe , and G . Cole , an excellent recitation being given by Bro . F . VV . Hawkes to serve on the Masonic Rooms Coommittee . The retiring VV . M ., Bro . Isworth , was presented with a Past Master's

gold jewel in appreciation of the excellent manner in which he had discharged his duties during the past year .

F . VV .
