Flegg , wh : > performed the ceremony in a most nerfect and impressive manner before a Board of 32 Installed Masters , one of the largest ever witnessed in the

lodge . The W . M . then invested his officers in a most efficient manner as follows : Bros . Flegg , l . P . M . ; S . Smith , S . W . ; J . Sparks , J . W . ; E . S . Lardner , P . M ., Sec Treas . ( pro tern . ); Harry Wood , S . D . ; Frank Wint , J . D . ; W . George , P . M ., D . C . ; Horace Petley , Org . ; C . Plant , I . G . ; Jas . Budd , Stwd . ; and Potter , Tvler . The addresses were most ably rendered by the

Installing Master , Bro . rlegg . Several letters ot apology were read for non-attendance , and also one from Bro . Thomas , P . M ., Treas ., who was seriously ill , with whom much sympathy was expressed . The W . M . announced it was his intention to stand as Steward at the next Festival of the R . M . B . I ., and the lodge voted the sum of 10 Guineas to be placed upon his list as a mark of their

appreciation . The report of the Audit Committee showed a substantial sum in the hands of the Treasurer . Bro . Wynne , P . M ., moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the l . P . M . for the splendid rendering of the installation ceremony . He stated he had been a member nearly 50 years , and had never witnessed the like . There were two propositions for initiation by the VV . M ., which ,

with the candidate already balloted for , augurs well for the coining year . After " Hearty good wishes" from a numerous array of distinguished visitors , the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to an excellent banquet , to the number of S 6 .

At the conclusion , the Worshipful Master proposed the toasts of "The Oueen and the Craft , " and that of "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , " which were drunk with the greatest enthusiasm . The Worshipful Master next gave "The Deputy G . M ., the Earl of Lathom , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " He remarked that the Grand Officers

were always ready and willing to give up an enormous amount of time at Grand Lodge for the benefit of the Craft . He was pleased to state that they were honoured by two Grand Officers that night , and he was delighted to have such worthy and distinguished brethren among them as Bros . Simpson , P . G . Chap ., and D . Mercer , G . Purst .

In reply , Bro . Simpson stated he was but a sleeping partner that night , but he offered his sincere thanks for the invitation given him by the W . M ., and he was certain if Lord Lathom had been present he would have been delighted at having the ceremonies so ably rendered by the l . P . M ., and the great promise of the W . M . He had read the charter of the lodge with deep interest , and it would

hear scrutiny . He had , like Bro . Wynn , P . M ., been a Mason over 40 years , and he would say that they would ever remember their position , and the influence that they , as Masons , could bring to bear upon their fellow creatures . Bro . Mercer , G . Purst ., also replied . The toast of "The W . M . " was given by the I . P . M ., who stated the W . M . was the most popular brother of the

lemple Lodge , for his name was only to be mentioned and there was the greatest enthusiasm . He trusted he would have health and strength to discharge his duties , and would , he felt sure , initiate the candidates ( he had himself proposed ) at their next meeting . He had already shown how excellently he could perform his duties in the chair . As brevity was the order of the evening , he would give the

toast of the W . M ., which was drunk with acclamation . The Worshipful Master replied , and said that he heartily thanked the l . P . M . for the manner in which he had given the toast , and could assure the brethren that he had the interest of the Temple Lodge at heart , and if the work was not so ably carried out during the present year , his interest in the lodge would not in the slightest degree lessen . Bro .

George , P . M ., had asked him to allow him to initiate his eldest son at the next meeting , which he had most readily assented to , because of the honour one must feel in initiating his own son . He might state that that was the proudest moment of his life , and he had looked forward to it for many years . He knew he had the hearty support of Hie Past Masters , and he hoped he might be spared very

many years to do all he could for the Temple Lodge . The W . M . next gave the toast of "The I . P . M ., " and stated the pleasure it gave him in proposing it . The l . P . M . had had a most successful year of office , and had handed a splendid balance forward for the present year . His working Had been admirable , and now it was his proud privilege to I'm that handsome jewel on his most noble breast , and he

hoped at the end of his year of office to have the same accorded him by the whole of the brethren . He trusted he might live many , many years to wear it . Bro . Taylor , P . M ., in a few appropriate remarks , said the Past Masters would always be at the W . M . 's service during the coming year . He was delighted to see such an array of visitors , many of whom were the most intimate friends of the VV . M . They had responded in an admirable manner . "The Charities" was entrusted with Bro . Edwards , P . M .,

which he advocated in an excellent manner . He was glad to state they were most ably supported , and was proud to hear that the W . M . was standing Steward at the coming Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and he trusted that they would all do their very utmost for those noble Institutions . The VV . M . next proposed "The Health of the Secretary

and Treasurer . " He was sorry to state that the Treasurer was seriously ill , but he trusted he would be among them shortly . The Secretary had carried out his duties most efficiently ; in fact , it was impossible to be without him . He had filled several offices that day , even to Steward . During the Treasurer ' s illness Bro . Lardner had filled both offices , which redounded most creditably , and he must say

that he had added lustre to the Temple Lodge during the past year . Bro . Lardner , P . M ., said , in reply , that after the eulogistic remarks of the VV . M ., he would say it had been very hard work for him , but he gave his services most gladly . That splendid gathering reflected great credit on the lodge , the like of which had not been witnessed for many , many

years . He did not wish to guild the lily , for the noble virtues of their W . M . were well known , and they all appreciated his good qualities most highly . Such an array of brethren showed that they all wished to do him honour . He would ask the brethren to drink to the return of the Treasurer , Bro . Thomas , P . M ., and he trusted they might be spared many years to assist in keeping up the prestige of the Temple

Lodge . The toast of "The Officers" was next given by the W . M ., who congratulated himself upon having such an excellent body . He trusted that they would be regular and punctual in their attendance , and would accord him their hearty support in the future as they had so ably done in the past . He would couple the names of the Senior and

Junior Wardens with the toast . The Wardens , in a few appropriate remarks , thanked the W . M . and brethren for so heartily drinking to their health , and promised the W . M ., on behalf of the whole of the officers , their most cordial support .

The Tyler s toast brought one of the most eventful meetings of this lodge to a close . The musical arrangements were under the able conductorship of Bro . F . Bevan , assisted most effectively by Bros . J . Gawthrop , Arthur Weston , Arthur Thomas , and Jas . Budd , Bro . Horace Petley ably presided at the organ .

Lynn , I . P . M ., proposed " The

Health of the W . M ., who suitably responded . Bro . H . Lynn , in the name of the lodge , then presented Bro . Nixon , P . M ., Sec , with a very handsome testimonial in recognition of his services during the past 11 years , and trusted he might long be spared to act as Secretary . Bro . Nixon , after thanking the members , said that testimonial would serve as an incentive to him to strive , with

the assistance of them all , to , if possible , place the lodge in a prouder position than it now held . The toasts of . " The Installing Master , " " The Initiate , " and "The Visitors " followed , and the latter was responded toby Bro . W . Pound , P . M . 19 . The musical arrangements were in the hands of Bro . W . Wright , P . G . Org . Middlesex , assisted by his brother and several other brethren .

Duke of Edinburgh Lodge ( No . 1259 ) . — A regular meeting of this lodge took place at the Cape of Good Hope Tavern , Limehouse , on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst . Bro . Geo . Gumprecht , I . G . ; G . H . Seddon , Org . ; Thomas , Stwd . ; and Ellis , Tyler . The lodge having been opened , the minutes were read and confirmed . Messrs . A . Snellingand A . G . Watts , who had been already balloted for , were then initiated . Bro . Ferguson having been passed , Bro . Simons was raised , Bro . G . Parrett performing the whole of the ceremonies with that earnestness which he always infuses into his work .

Throughout it was marked with precision , and the addresses were given in a manner at once impressive and complete . The work of the various officers reflected credit on the lodge . The principal business of the evening being ended , several cases of charitable objects were disposed of , and the lodge having been closed , the brethren adjourned to refreshment and hormony . After an excellently served refection , Bro . Parrett , VV . M ., proposed the loyal toasts and that of " The Grand Officers ,

The hour being late , brevity was the standing order , and the various speakers conformed to the " rules of the house " in an exemplary way . Bro . Orner , l . P . M ., could not refrain from expatiating somewhat on the merits of the W . M ., whose energy and

strict attention to his duties was contributing so much to the prosperity of the lodge . The Worshipful Master then proposed "The Two Initiates , " who responded with the natural bashfulness of the infant Freemason . The toasts of "The I . P . M ., " "P . M . 's , " "Treasurer and Secretary , " from the pressure of time , being

incorporated into one toast , the Bros . Omer , I . P . M ., Wakefield , P . M ., Treasurer ; and J . W . Buchan , P . M ., Sec , being representative men , responded . "The Visitors " were fairly represented by their sponsors , Bros . J . T . Kinipple , M . J . Hayes , G . H . Seage , and H . A . Pettipher . Bro . R . E . Wolsey , they were duly initiated into Freemasonry . The W . M . then completed his arduous labours by impressively installing Bro . J . J . La Feuillade as the Master for the ensuing year . 's list on behalf of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , and , on the proposition of Bro . Capt . Walls , P . M ., a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Westley , I . P . M ., for the admirable manner in which he

had performed the duties of Installing Master . Propositions for initiation having been received , the lodge was closed , and the brethren subsequently enjoyed an excellent banquet , provided by the host , Bro . Buxton . The usual toasts were afterwards heartily honoured . Bro . Capt . T . C . Walls , P . M ., proposed " The Grand Officers , " and having- alluded to the great loss sustained by

the Craft in the death of the late Pro G . M ., said that the Earl of Lathom , Deputy G . M ., would take the chair at the forthcoming Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , when no doubt the lodges would rally round him and give him their hearty support . He wished to say a few words about their coming Grand Treasurer , Bro . George Everett , P . M ., who was nominated without opposition for

the highest honour the brethren could bestow , and the acclamation with which that nomination was received proved that the Craft heartily approved of it . Bro . Everett could not respond that evening as a Grand Officer , but would be enabled to do so at the next meeting , and every lodge in the Metropolis—and especially those with which he was connected—would hail with acclamation the time when he

would be invested with the collar of Grand treasurer . That was his ( Bro . Walls' ) mother lodge , and he should therefore be proud to see a Grand Officer in their ranks . Bro . W . VV . Westley , I . P . M ., said that was the first time he had had the honour in that lodge of proposing " The Health of the VV . M ., " but he was pleased to be able to do so , as Bro . J . La Feuillade had been a member as long as

he had , and they had worked together for many years . The W . M . ' s heart and soul was in the lodge , and as time rolled on he would prove a worthy successor to those who had liiled the chair before him . Their VV . M . had not had any work that evening , but was reserving his powers for the next meeting , when he would have the three Degrees to perform . He wished their W .
