Hogarth and Lawrence , who were declared duly elected and afterwards initiated by the W . M . A brother was also passed ; after which theW . M . took the opportunity of referring to the death of the late Bro .

Padley , a much-esteemed brother of 1473 , and it was unanimously agreed that a letter of condolence should be sent to his widow expressing the deep sympathy of the members . The Iodge being closed in due form the brethren adjourned to supper , the catering being as usual efficiently performed by Bro . Scott of the Wyndham Hotel . The usual loval and Masonic toasts were duly given , after

which , Bro . Ibbs , P . M ., rose and said the gavel had been entrusted to him for the purpose of proposing a toast which he felt sure would receive their hearty approbation , viz ., " The Health of Bro . J . P . Bryan , P . G . O . " They all knew how for more than seven years Bro . Bryan had regularly attended their meetings and assisted them by providing musical accompaniments to the service in the lodge room and at the

festive board . It was scarcely possible for hiin to speak too highly of the way in which the musical portion of their service had been rendered , and he begged to thank their brother on behalf of the brethren most cordially . It would be in the recollection of the members that it was agreed that Bro . Bryan should not be allowed to retire from the lodge without some mark of the esteem in which they held him , and having been entrusted with the contributions of the brethren he

( Bro . Ibbs ) had laid them out in a manner which would at once commemorate Bro . Byran ' s promotion to Prov . Grand rank , and remind him of his connection with the Bootle Lodge . He congratulated the P . G . O . on his having received provincial honours , the more so as he would have the pleasure of serving under one whose name was a household word among Masons not only in this country , but abroad—their R . W . P . G . M ., Bro . the Earl of Lathom . In

conclusion , Bro . Ibbs in a few hearty words presented to Bro . Bryan on behalf of the brethren present a full suit ol P . G . clothing and a valuable and chaste gold albert guard , accompanied by a very handsome illustrated album for Mrs . Bryan , with illuminated inscription as follows : "This album is presented Bro . J . P . Bryan , Hon . Org . of the Bootle Lodge , No . 1473 , for a period of seven years , together with provincial grand clothing , on the occasion of

his being appointed Prov . Grand Organist for the Province of West Lancashire , and a gold albert watch-guard , to mark the esteem and respect in which he is held by the brethren , and in recognition of bis past services . Bryan , in responding thanked the brethren for the

kindness they had shown to him , not only that evening but on many previous occasions . His connection with the Bootle Lodge would always remain in his mind as one of the bright pictures of his Masonic career . His services , though not he was afraid so valuable as Bro . Ibbs kindly asserted , had been freely given , and the appreciation of the brethren was an ample reward in itself . As regarded their thoughtful presentation to Mrs . Bryan he knew it

would give her great pleasure , for she was hearty in seconding him in all his Masonic work . Nothing could have given him greater pleasure than to receive these valuable tokens of their esteem at the hands of Bro . Ibbs , the father of the lodge , and one who had been his friend from the time he had entered 1473 . In conclusion he must again thank the brethren for their kindness , and anything he could do to forward the musical interests of

the lodge he would promise to perform . "The Visitors and "The VV . M . " were enthusiastically drunk and a very enjoyable evening was brought to a conclusion . GREAT STANMORE . —Abercorn Lodge ( No . 1549 ) . — The first meeting of this well established sum mer lodge was held on the 4 th inst ., at the Abercorn Hotel . Bro . Bamford , W . M ., well supported by his officers

and-Past Masters , several brethren , and Bros . Hawksley , VV . M . 1702 , and Hobbin , S 93 , visitors , opened the lodge . The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed Bro . C Townsend was passed to the Degree of M . M . A petition was signed in favour of the widow and family of the late Bro . Peach , who was initiated in this lodge , to the Board of Benevolence . The sum of three guineas was voted out of the lodge charity fund for their present

assistance , Bro . 1 ideombe was unanimously elected Treasurer in place of Bro . Dr . Rogers who had taken the chair of J . W . A vote of condolence was recorded to the family on the death of Bro . J . Felton who was the first initiate of this lodge . The minute of a special meeting , held on 30 th October last was also confirmed , on which occasion a vote of heartfelt sympathy was expressed and recorded to the widow and family of the late Rev . Bro . Bernays , Rector of Stanmore . The highly respected and worthy

brother had only been initiated into this lodge on October 4 th and died suddenly on the 25 th ; but five weeks later his estimable widow was laid beside him in Stanmore Churchyard , and the grief of all was most conspicuous by the immense attendance at their funerals . Yea , even in death they were not parted . The usual " Hearty good wishes " having been expressed by the visiting brethren the lodge was closed , and after an excellent repast and thc usual toast , most harmoniously enlivened by the members present , the brethren dispersed .

YORK . —Eboracum Lodge ( No . 1611 ) . —The regular monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Monday last . Present : Bros . M . Millington , VV . M . ; T . B . Whytehead , P . M . ; C G . Ware presented to the Iodge a bound volume of a Masonic publication , and Bro . Whytehead two old editions of the Constitutions and a bound volume of thc Voice if Masonry , for which votes of thanks were passed . Bro . Whytehead also announced that Bro . the Hon . VV .

T . Orde-Powlett had presented to the lodge a copy of Bartolozzi ' s valuable engraving of Stothart ' s picture of the Festival of the Girls' School . He was having the engraving cleaned and mounted and should then present it formally for Bro . Orde-Powlett . It was stated that the sum raised amongst thebrethren for the purchase of the Mechanics ' Institute now amounted to over , Ciooo .

KENT LODGE ( No . 15 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held recently at Bro . Serjeant's , the King and Queen , Norton Folgate , E . C ., when there were present : Bros . Millington , VV . M . ; jSerjeant , S . VV . ; Little , J . VV . ; Clark , S . D . ; Pinder , Preceptor ; Black , I . G . ; also Rowe , Patrick , Kramm , Gieseke , Turberfield , and others . Lodge was opened in due form with solemn prayer . The

minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Kramm , candidate . Bro . Turberfield answered the usual questions leading to the Second Degree , and the ceremony of passing rehearsed , Bro . Turberfield , candidate . Lodge was ' resumed , and Bro . Serjeant elected VV . M . for the ensuing week . After the usual preliminaries the lodge was closed .

PERCY LODGE ( No . 19 S ) . —A meeting of this Iodge was held at the Jolly Farmers , Southgate-road , on thc 7 th inst . Present : Bros . Dixie , VV . M . ; Marks , S . W . ; Ashton , J . Lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Hatch having offered himself as a candidate the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed . Bro . Pearcy worked the First Section , assisted by Bro . Ashton , and tbe Second , assisted by Bro . Woolf . Lodge was then opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . Lorkin worked the Second and Third Sections , assisted

by Bros . Gribbell and Heedon . Lodge was then closed in the Second Degree , and Bro . Marks was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A cordial vote of thanks was unanimously accorded the VV . M . for his efficient working . All Masonic business having been ended the lodge was closed .

lhe above is one of the oldest Hodges of instruction in London , and for a number of years has been under the Preceptorship of Bro . R . Pearcy , P . M . 22 S . Brethren in search of Masonic knowledge will be amply repaid by favouring this lodge with a visit at eight o'clock any Saturday evening .

the previous meeting read and confirmed . The ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Twining being the candidate . Bro . Forss then worked the First and Second Sections of the lecture . Lodge was closed in the Second Degree . It was proposed by Bro . Forss and seconded by Bro . Hunt that Bro . Polac be VV . M . for the ensuing week . The lodge was then closed .

COVENT GARDEN LODGE ( 1614 ) . — A meeting of this lodge was held at the Bedford Head Hotel , Maiden-lane , on the 5 th inst . Present : Bros . G . Coleman , VV . M . ; Rolfe , S . VV . ; Richardson , J . VV . ; Reynolds , J . D . ( Secretary ); B . Solomons , I . G . ; and R . Head . The lodge was opened in due form and with solemn

prayer , and the minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed . Bro . Richardson , Preceptor , worked the First Section of the lecture . Bro . Head offering himself as a candidate for passing he was duly questioned , entrusted , and retired . Lodge opened in the Second Degree , and the W . M . worked the ceremony . Lodge resumed to the First Degree , Bro . Reynolds proposed that Bro . Head , No . 1 C 14 , be a joining member of this lodge of instruction ,

which was carried unanimously , and the W . M . expressed the pleasure , as S . W . of the mother lodge , he felt in seeing the young members of the lodge joining , and he now looked forward to the fact that the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction was on a permanent footing , and that brethren who sought Masonic instruction would support their worthy Preceptor , who was always so willing to instruct . Bro . Rolfe was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and having appointed his officers in rotation thc Iodge was closed .

M ., with a very pleasing recitation from Bro . Stevens , P . M . The presentation of a P . M . 's jewel to Bro . the Rev . H . G . Bonavia-Hunt , the I . P . M ., was greeted with marked

approval , and the eulogium from the VV . M ., Brc . Hoare , elicited a spontaneous response from all the brethren , at once testifying their appreciation of the admirable way in which the lodge , under his immediate guidance , had been carried on , and also to the most impressive and beautiful manner in which the ceremony of installation was performed .

Bros . Dewar , P . M . ; Stevens , P . M . ; and Poore , P . M . ; added their unqualified testimony to the perfectness of the installation ceremony , remarking that it was possibly equalled by Bro . Stark , I . P . M ., who was the Installing Officer of the previous year .
