Humphries in proposing " The Health of the Worshipful Master" expressed thc great pleasure and satisfaction he had in doing so ; a toast in which he was sure everv brother would join heartily with him in drinking . In
Bro . Ball he predicted a happy , and he trusted a successful year , and in him as a VV . M . he was sure the brethren had elected cne , to the hig h and honourable office of an old , grand old lodge , who would still maintain its dignity and its honour . . The Worshipful Master who was enthusiastically received expressed his appreciation of the high compliments paid to
him . It would be his earnest endeavour to promote the prosperity and harmony of the lodge , and to discharge the duties which might fall to his lot to the satisfaction and welfare of the brethren , and to the credit and dignity of so old and venerable a lodge . The Worshipful Master then proposed in happy terms , " The Health of the Immediate Past Master , " referring
to the hard and heavy work he had done in the interest and welfare of the lodge , as well as to the courteous and able manner in which he had faithfully discharged thc onerous duties of that office . In the name of thebrethren and with a pleasure which he could not express , he presented to him a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , which he trusted he would live long to wear , as a remembrance of the brethren and as
a token of their satisfaction and esteem . The lir . mediate Past Mastcr suitably acknowledged tbe gift , the interest and welfare of the lodge would ever be to the front with him . " The Past Masters " came next , which were responded to by Bros . Cordingley and Symons in very happy style , the latter statinsr that in the W . M . they had a gentleman ,
for a better man and a better Mason never filled that chair . Other toasts followed , including " The Visitors , " "The Treasurer , " and "Secretary and Officers of the Lodge , " all of which were duly honoured and responded to . The evening was kept fully alive with some capital songs and recitations , and accompanied in excellent manner by Bro . H . j . Dean , Organist , when the Tyler ' s toast brought to an end a really happy , and thoroughly enjoyable evening .
WANDERERS LODGE ( No . 1604 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held at Freemasons ' Hall on Tuesday last , when Bro . V . Butterworth , who closed his year cf office on that day , performed a very heavy day's work . Setting aside the routine work of reading the minutes , & c , and thc balloting for initiates , there was the following work on thc agenda paper : At 4 . 15 to raise
Bros . Lawrence G . Drummond and Harry Fenn ; at 5 to pass Broc . Cadwallader Thomas , Arthur Hawksford , Henry Beasley _ . and William C . Keats ; 315 . 30 to initiate Messrs . William A ' . ex . Woodlock , James McCullagh , Charles Heil , and William C . C Watson ; and thereafter to install thc W . M . cbet , Bro . James Wade , S . VV . The whole of this work was performed by Bro . Butterworth with the utmost
precision , and it was observable that in thc three ceremonies he took the greatest care that all the candidatesshould thoroughly understand every word of the obligations which were administered to them . He was very ably seconded by his officers , who did their portion of the work with the same precision and completeness as was observable in the working of the W . M . The ceremonyof installing his successor ,
Bro . Wade , was performed with the like correctness and impressiveness , and it was quite evident that he had spared no pains to become Master of the ceremony in order to perform it with the greatest credit both to himself and to the lodge of which he was the head . When the new W . M . Bro . Wade , had invested Bro . Butterworth with the collar of I . P . M ., he invested the Treasurer and appointed and invested his other officers . The following is the list of oflicers for the ensuing year : Bros .

The following brethren were appointed to act as a committee of reference , viz ., Bros . Andrews ( two ) , Birchin ,
VVhite , P . M ., Fletcher , and Musson . The Worship ful Master then said that he had a very pleasing duty to perform , viz ., to recognise the services of the Immediate Past Master , Bro . Butterworth , by presenting him with the Past Master's jewel which had been voted to him on the previous occasion , when the unanimity of the vote best expressed the hi g h estimation in which thev held Bro . Butterworth ' s services . In attaching the
jewel he had only to add the hope that the Grand Architect of the Universe would g ive him health that he might be enabled to come among them for many years to come to render them such assistance as they might stand in need of . In reply Bro . Butterworth returned the brethren his hearty thanks for the compliment they had paid him , and would always be prepared to render any assistance that it might be in his power to afford . During part of the time
the lodge was in labour Bro . the Right Hon . Gerald Fitzgibbon , the Irish Lord Justice of Appeal , a member of the Trinity College Lodge , Dublin , No . 357 ( I . C ) , was present , and was much pleased with what he witnessed . He was however unable to remain for the banquet on account of a prior engagement . Among the other visitors were Bros , the Rev . Simpson , P . G . Chap . ; C A . CottebruneP . G . Purs . ; and the following brethren : Bros .

Letrange , 172 S ; C A . Lobbe , VV . M . 17 S 9 ; G . Schieller , 1567 ; andE . C . Massey , 1297 ( Freemason ) . After the banquet , which followed theclosing of the lodge , the customary toasts were proposed from the chair , but as , in consequence of the quantity of work in the lodge , the
banquet was somewhat delayed , and time was consequently short , the toasts were proposed very briefly . In response to the toast to thc Grand Oflicers , with which the names of Bros . Simpson and Cottebrune were coupled , Bro . Simpson said he had the honour to return thanks for the compliment that had been paid to the past and present Grand Officers in the toast which had just been drunk . He was sorry that there were not more Grand Officers
present ; had there been , they would have shared the great pleasure which he and Bro . Cottebrune had experienced , not only in the noble hospitality of the brethren , but in witnessing the very excellent working they' bad seen in lodge . Although he had been thirty years a Mason he had never seen work better done . He had been present at the birth of the lodge , and had seen the working of various Mastersbut he would venture to say that none had dune
, better work . The Wanderers , however far they had been over the world , would find on their return the working very much superior to what they had seen in most places abroad . It was a very great happ iness to him to be present at the lodge , and he rejoiced that there had been so much work which commended itself to his mind b y its accuracy , and by the admirable zeal and pathos which was thrown into it . lt was said that they were to unite in the grand
design of being happy and communicating happiness , lt was also said that happiness consisted in the presence of that pleasure and the absence of pain . Well , scarcely anything could be imagined more painful than to observe in working a likelihood that at any moment the worker may break down and that you will probably have to pick him up again . But in the working that night there was not only the absence of that pain , but the
presence of great pleasure , and they had united in tlie design of being happy , and he was sure that there never was an occasion when the dignity as well as the importance of Freemasonry was better illustrated . He said this advisedly , for when he listened to those beautiful words which spoke of our duty to our God , our country , and our laws , and which were so impressively uttered by Bro . Butterworth , he for one felt that the I . P . M . was touching
upon a chord which must vibrate in the hearts of every true Englishman and every true servant of God . They had to thank God that there was such an honourable body of men in the land as Freemasons , who felt how extremely necessary it was in all quarters to inculcate the observance of those duties to their God , their country , and their laws , and whose code of morals taught justice and uprightness of lifeloyalty to the sovereign of their native land , and that
, they should look up to the Great God whom they adored ; these principles , important at all times , were not the less important in the present day . Bro . Cottebrune added a tew words . He had been present at the consecration of this lodge some seven or eight years ago and he had the honour of being a Past Master and it gave him much p leasure to attend on these occasions . and act as Director of Ceremonies as he had done that evening .
Bro . Butterworth , the I . P . M ., said that the brethren would understand by his having taken the gavel that he was about to propose "The Health of the VV . M . He was sure that the members of the Wanderers Lodge were proud to have Bro . Wade in the chair . From the first time that Bro . Wade took office in the lodge he had done his duty in a most excellent manner and the speaker thought that in Bro . Wade ' s year of office the work would be better
done than it had ever been done before . The Worshipful Master in returning thanks said he thanked thebrethren most heartily for the manner in which they had drunk his health . He had now been installed in thc honourable post of Master of the Wanderers Lodge , and he should endeavour to carry out the duties of the
office with satisfaction to himself and thc lodge , and he hoped to be able to do them with the same ability as had been displayed by the Masters who had occupied that chair before him . In proposing "The Health of the Installing Master " the Chairman said that the brethren present had all seen with what zeal and activity Bro . Butterworth had discharged the office of Installing Master that evening , lt was what they expected from the manner in which he had during his year

of office carried out the duties of the chair , and the speaker did not doubt that if he required his assistance the I . P . M . would always be re ready to give it . He had known Bro . Butterworth for 25 years ; 21 years ago they had jogged side by side in the service and now they were jogging side by side in Masonry ; and whether as a soldier or a Mason , Bro . Butterworth had always merited the confidence of his
comrades . In replying to this toast Bro . Butterworth thanked the brethren heartil y for the honour that they had done him , and said that the Wanderers Lodge was formed in 1 S 76 , and that he was the second brother who had reached the chair of the Wanderers Lodge , who had also been initia l ed in it . That showed that there was no barrier placed
in the way of initiates who desired to work up to the chair . He thought the W . M . had given him greater credit than he deserved . It was the duty of a W . M . to install his successor . He was very much obliged to the brethren for the encouragement they had given him , and he should be always ready to render service if it should be required of him in the future . There were several other toasts proposed . includin . _ r" The
Initiates , " "The Visitors , " "The Past Masters , " "The Officers , " " The Masonic Charities , " and " The Masonic Press , " before the Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings , but from the lateness of the hour the time at the disposal of the various speakers was short , and the speeches were consequently brief and of no special interest . During the evening several of the brethren enlivened the proceedings by their musical contributions .
ALL SAINTS LODGE ( No . 1716 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held in the Town Hall , Poplar , on Friday , the 6 th-inst ., Bro . J . House , W . M . and Treasurer , who was to serve as Steward at the ensuing Festival of the- Girls' Institution .
In connection with the Masonic Charities , Bro . Wilshaw , Sec , stated that by the courtesy of the Secretaries of the three Charities ( who had furnished the information at his request ) he was able to report that since the formation of the lodge a little over five years ago , the sum of . £ 590 had been raised on behalf of the three Institutions , which he thought was a result to be congratulated upon . The report
of a committee appointed at the last regular meeting to consider the propriety of forming a Benevolent Fund in connection with the lodge was then received , and it was resolved to establish such a fund , but owing to the lateness of the hour the consideration of the details of the scheme was adjourned till next meeting . For the same reason the address on " The Allegorical Teachings of
Freemasonry " which was to have been delivered b y Bro . J . House , W . M ., was also postponed . Considerable regret was expressed at this , as from the very able and interesting address delivered by Bro . House in August last on " Traces of the Principles of Masonry , " the brethren had been expecting an intellectual treat . The lodge was . then . closcd in due form .

The report
of a committee appointed at the last regular meeting to consider the propriety of forming a Benevolent Fund in connection with the lodge was then received , and it was resolved to establish such a fund , but owing to the lateness of the hour the consideration of the details of the scheme was adjourned till next meeting .
