LATHES AND OTHER AI'I ' LIAKCES IOR ORNAMENTAL . TURNING . —Visitors to the Engineering and Metal Trades' Exhibition , now open at the Agricultural Hall , Islington , will find one of the principal attractions of this remarkably attractive show at Stand No . 23 S , where Mr . J . H . Evans , of 159 , VVardour-street , Soho , engine , lathe , and tool manufacturer , and general machinist to her
Majesty ' s Board of Ordnance , exhibits a very excellent assortment of his manufactures . 'The firm of Evans was established as far back as 1 S 10 , and during the greater part of the period that has since elapsed has enjoyed a high reputation in the trade . This repuation is more than confirmed by the character of his present exhibits , whicli consist chiefly of lathes for the use of amateurs in turning .
with two cases added of articles which have been turned by gentlemen who have purchased machines of Mr . Evans , and many of whom are indebted for the skill they have attained in the art to his able instruction . The former are of exquisite workmanship , while the material of which they are manufactureJ is the best that can be procured . We may venture to say that
while it is possible , perhaps , to equal them , they cannot be surpassed ; nor , having regard to the class of machinery that is to be seen here , can the latter and other appliances be pronounced excessively costly . As to the articles of turnery , it must be very gratifying to Mr . Evans to be in a position to furnish such evidence of the excellence of his apparatus and method of instruction .

The Savage Club entertainment , which has been organised with the view of founding a scholarship in the Royal College of Music , took place at the Albert Hall on Wednesday night , 'There was a large and distinguished company , including the Prince and Princess of Wales , the Duke and Duchess of Connaught , Prince and Princess Christian , and the Duke of Albany . A ball which formed
part of the festivities , commenced soon after 11 o ' clock , by which time the Albert Hall was a scene of great gaiety and even splendour .
