experience . Comp . Hubbard , in reply , said that he had availed himself of the kindness of Comp . George Everett to visit No . 13 S 1 , and what he had seen and heard in the chapter had amply repaid him . He endorsed the remarks of his covisitor that the work had been admirably done . He was also pleased to hear that the chapter was so flourishing , but
under the careful and experienced guidance of so excellent a Treasurer as Comp . Everett that was a foregone conclusion . In No . 177 , of which chapter he ( the speaker ) was a Past Principal , Comp . George Everett , P . Z ., had done good suit and service , and was held in the highest esteem . The toast of "The Past Principals" was acknowledged
by Comp . Capt . Walls ; that of "The Treasurer and Scribe E . " by Comps . Everett and Higgins ; and "The Health of the Officers" was coupled with the names of Comps . Dowling , Austin , and Sims , who briefly acknowledged the compliment . The proceedings were throughout of a very enjoyable nature

Auditors were appointed , and the chapter was closed . Several apologies were received from companions unable to be present . The companions afterwards met at supper , after which the usual toasts were honoured . Replying to the toast of "The Past Principals of the Chapter , " Comp . Whytehead referred to the solemn character of the ceremony and the impression which it
ought to make upon the mind of every listener . He was anxious that no companion should be present at or aid in such a ceremony without being intensely aware of what he was saying and doing . Sometimes there seemed to creep in a kind of lightness of speech and hearing which was
hardly consistent with the solemnity that should characterise such a ritual , and he trusted they would all remember that such teachings as they inculcated should not be left in the lodge room until the next meeting to get mouldy , but should be carried about with them , and be seen in their lives and conversation .
