"The Health of the M . E . Z . " having been warmly received , and the toast of "The Second and Third Principals" duly honoured , the acting M . E . Z . gave " The

Exaltees . Comps . Bower and Togill , in reply , both expressed themselves as being highly impressed with the ceremony . "The Visitors " followed . Comp . Sims , in his response , stated that he had visited many chapters , but he had never seen the work more ably performed than it had been that night . Comp . Lardner was evidently a Royal Arch Mason of considerable

experience . Comp . Hubbard , in reply , said that he had availed himself of the kindness of Comp . George Everett to visit No . 13 S 1 , and what he had seen and heard in the chapter had amply repaid him . He endorsed the remarks of his covisitor that the work had been admirably done . He was also pleased to hear that the chapter was so flourishing , but

under the careful and experienced guidance of so excellent a Treasurer as Comp . Everett that was a foregone conclusion . In No . 177 , of which chapter he ( the speaker ) was a Past Principal , Comp . George Everett , P . Z ., had done good suit and service , and was held in the highest esteem . The toast of "The Past Principals" was acknowledged

by Comp . Capt . Walls ; that of "The Treasurer and Scribe E . " by Comps . Everett and Higgins ; and "The Health of the Officers" was coupled with the names of Comps . Dowling , Austin , and Sims , who briefly acknowledged the compliment . The proceedings were throughout of a very enjoyable nature

Chapman , P . S . ; J . T . Seller , P . Z . j J . VV . Spetch , E . Thackray , F . Hansell , Wm . Cheeseman , P . Pearson , H . Longford , and others . After the confirmation of the minutes , Bros . Barlow and Bellerby , who had been balloted for at a previous meeting , were duly exalted by the acting Z ., who also gave the mystical lecture . The election of Principals and officers

A sum of £ 5 5 s . was voted from the chapter funds to the Decoration Fund of the Masonic Hall . Two

Auditors were appointed , and the chapter was closed . Several apologies were received from companions unable to be present . The companions afterwards met at supper , after which the usual toasts were honoured . Replying to the toast of "The Past Principals of the Chapter , " Comp . Whytehead referred to the solemn character of the ceremony and the impression which it

ought to make upon the mind of every listener . He was anxious that no companion should be present at or aid in such a ceremony without being intensely aware of what he was saying and doing . Sometimes there seemed to creep in a kind of lightness of speech and hearing which was

hardly consistent with the solemnity that should characterise such a ritual , and he trusted they would all remember that such teachings as they inculcated should not be left in the lodge room until the next meeting to get mouldy , but should be carried about with them , and be seen in their lives and conversation .

The companions afterwards met at supper , after which the usual toasts were honoured . Replying to the toast of "The Past Principals of the Chapter , " Comp . Whytehead referred to the solemn character of the ceremony and the impression which it

ought to make upon the mind of every listener . He was anxious that no companion should be present at or aid in such a ceremony without being intensely aware of what he was saying and doing . Sometimes there seemed to creep in a kind of lightness of speech and hearing which was

hardly consistent with the solemnity that should characterise such a ritual , and he trusted they would all remember that such teachings as they inculcated should not be left in the lodge room until the next meeting to get mouldy , but should be carried about with them , and be seen in their lives and conversation .
