Picnic Of The Royal Preston Lodge, No. 333, Preston.
PICNIC OF THE ROYAL PRESTON LODGE , No . 333 , PRESTON .
The annual picnic of this lodge took place on Thursday , the 30 th ult ., to Windermere , when a party , consisting of members and friends numbering about 40 , left Preston at S . 5 a . m . in a special saloon carriage , and proceeded by
way of Lake Side and Windermere to Ambleside , where coaches were in readiness to convey the party to the White Lion Hotel , where dinner was provided . After dinner the party proceeded by coaches through Clappersgate and Redbank to Grasmere , and returned hy the 8 . 40 train from Windermere , arriving at Preston at 10 . 30 having enjoyed the outing very much .
The country traversed by the London , Brig hton , and South Coast Railway contains a very considerable number of those pleasure resorts which are most popular with holiday folk . It is also a great favourite with those whose health needs recruiting after the worries and anxieties , and who , worse still , are confirmed invalids , or nearly so . Many of these localities , such as the Isle of Wight , the Hampshire watering places , Hastings and St . Leonards , Brighton ,
Eastbourne , & c , are accessible within a few hours by the London , Brighton , and South Coast Railway , and in these circumstances it is a matter of course lhat the directors should issue annually a prospectus of their special arrangements for the tourist and holiday season . It is equally a matter of course that these arrangements should be as nearly perfect as possible , and conduce to the greatest extent possible to the comfort and convenience of the public .
Moreover , the company works one of the most agreeable of our continental communications , and is therefore most earnest in its endeavours to do all in its power to encourage people to visit the continent by its particular route . Thus in the matter of tickets , both for home and foreign travel , the tourist is granted the usual facilities afforded by o " railway companies as regards tickets , which are issued fur shorter or longer periods , the ttvo-monthly tickets , which
can be extended to the 3 rd December on certain moderate conditions , being for those who have time and to spare the most important . Little need be said as to the attractions offered by the Isle of Wight , Hastings , Brighton , the continental route , vi . 1 Newhaven and Dieppe , & c , they are so familiar to our readers ; but those who desire information as to the train service , fares , & c , should procure the company's " Tourist and Excursion Programme , " or , if that is
not explicit enough for the purpose , they should inquire at the managerial ollices at the company ' s principal stations in London—London Bridge and Liverpool-street to the hast , and Victoria and Kensington to the West—and its vicinity , or the more important stations in the provinces , where , as well as at the company's booking and receiving offices , they will be most courteously furnished with particulars of what . they wish to know .
