" —Although the-e is much truth in your remarks , we do not think it would be to the interest of the Institutions to print your letter . We quite agree with you that it is most painful to be obliged to reject so many candidates at every election , but unless we adopted the princip le of admitting all applicants the hardship is only a question of degree , and we do not think an era of universal chanty would set in if Masons gave up dining . As to such a large sum as you mention being spent by lodges in drink alone , we do not believe it , although vve are quite willing to admit that much less money spent in that direction would be an advantage to the Craft and to the individual .

" —Although the-e is much truth in your remarks , we do not think it would be to the interest of the Institutions to print your letter . We quite agree with you that it is most painful to be obliged to reject so many candidates at every election , but unless we adopted the princip le of admitting all applicants the hardship is only a question of degree , and we do not think an era of universal chanty would set in if Masons gave up dining . As to such a large sum as you mention being spent by lodges in drink alone , we do not believe it , although vve are quite willing to admit that much less money spent in that direction would be an advantage to the Craft and to the individual .
