maintain the high prestige vvith which it has ever been associated . On the motion of Bro . G . H . N . Bridges , P . M ., it vvas unanimously resolved that a Past Treasurer ' s jewel should be presented to Bro . Captain Styan , on his retirement from that office . The report of the Audit Committee , vvhich was of a most favourable character in respect of finances , and contained a recommendation for
a slight addition to the subscription fee , vvas approved and adopted ; and , after the disposal of some trifling routine business and the expression of " Hearty good wishes " from the visitors , the lodge was closed . The whole of the work of the evening vvas excellently performed , without haste or hesitation , in a little more than three hoursandshortly after seven o ' clockfthebrethren re-assembled
in the handsome salle a manger on the basement floor of the Masonic Hall , where a well provided banquet awaited their attention , and over vvhich the W . M . presided . The post prandial proceedings were highly enjoyable , and were characterised by brevity of speech and devotion to harmony and general entertainment . A response from the newlyinitiated brother , F . J . Pullan , vvas a record as a maiden
Masonic speech . For the visitors the first six above-named brethren severally spoke in terms of commendation of both the Masonic work and refreshment in vvhich they had shared . Bro . Pearce most agreeably occupied a brief half hour by clever feats of sleight of hand , and practically reminded his numerous friends that , as regards hasty decisions , they should remember that they had been "taught to be
cautious . " Bros . Cranch , Baxter , Sims , Marshal ] , and Braik vocalised with the assistance of Bro . Hill , the Organist . Bro . Stevens recited the beautiful poem " The Level , Plumb , and Square , " and altogether the events of the day vvere acknowledged by the members of the lodge and their guests as worthy of remembrance in connection vvith the rise and progress of the Macdonald Lodge , No . 1216 .
Victoria Park Lodge ( No . 1816 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held at the London Tavern , Fenchurch-street , on the 30 th ult ., under the presidency of Bro . Clements , W . A vote of condolence was then unanimously carried expressing the sympathy of the brethren with the respected Treasurer , vvho has recently met vvith an irreparable loss—that of his wife . The lodge was then , after some further remarks , duly closed , and the brethren adjourned for a fraternal hour in

J . Shelley , vvho was the outgoing Master , should continue to fill the chair of K . S . until September ,

in vvhich month it is proposed , by altering the by-laws , to have future installations , instead of in January . Bro . Shelley , who vvas initiated in the Arnold Lodge , and has served every office upward , agreed to accept the position for the period named , and at once settled down to the work
of the evening , which consisted of a raising , a passing , and initiation of three candidates . Each ceremony vvas admirably worked by Bro . Shelley , whose experience in ritual is very marked . A party of 40 , later on , partook of dinner , vvhich vvas admirably served by Bro . Mayo .

All Masonic business being ended , the lodge vvas closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet table .
Upon the removal of the cloth the customary loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . R . H . Thrupp , D . P . G . M ., responded to the toastof "The Provincial Grand Officers . " In proposing "The Health of the I . P . M ., " the W . M . congratulated Bro . Hill upon his successful year of office , and expressed his great pleasure that the duty of presenting
to him the beautiful Past Master ' s jewel vvhich had been voted to him , had devolved upon himself . Bros . Stiles , Cleghorn , Thom , Ransford , and others responded to the toast of "The Visitors , " and all more or less eulogised the lodge , its working , and its hospitality . Deeves , for Natal , and of the great loss the lodge would sustain bv the deoarture of nne nf the
most genial and excellent Masters that had ever presided over the lodge . He wished Bro . Deeves a safe voyage out to , and a prosperous time at , Natal , of vvhich district he is already a Past Grand Officer , and a safe return home to his native land should he require it . Some good singing and reciting , and also instrumental music , enlivened the proceedings materially .

in the handsome salle a manger on the basement floor of the Masonic Hall , where a well provided banquet awaited their attention , and over vvhich the W . M . presided . Masonic speech . For the visitors the first six above-named brethren severally spoke in terms of commendation of both the Masonic work and refreshment in vvhich they had shared . Bro . Pearce most agreeably occupied a brief half hour by clever feats of sleight of hand , and practically reminded his numerous friends that , as regards hasty decisions , they should remember that they had been "taught to be
cautious . " Bros . Cranch , Baxter , Sims , Marshal ] , and Braik vocalised with the assistance of Bro . Hill , the Organist . Bro . Stevens recited the beautiful poem " The Level , Plumb , and Square , " and altogether the events of the day vvere acknowledged by the members of the lodge and their guests as worthy of remembrance in connection vvith the rise and progress of the Macdonald Lodge , No . 1216 .
