satisfactory result could not be attained without the paternal supervision of the Stewards . He should leave it to the House Committee to go into details about the work and its success , but he would y ield to no one his wishes for its prosperity . With the toast he would couple the worthy name of Bro . Henry Smith , the Treasurerof the Institution .
Bro . HiiNRY SMITH , in responding , thanked the brethren on behalf of the Committee . They deeply felt the liberality of the brethren in giving to the Institution . He said he remembered the Institution when they thought ^ 3000 or . £ 4000 was a very large amount to collect . They had reached . £ 51 , 000 in one year , and it was the wish of the brethren that some of that money should be expended in putting the building on a better footing . He was quite sure the brethren would be pleased with it . They had provided large dormitories and class-rooms , which had done a great deal to advance the happiness of the children . In 18 70 there were 100 in the Schools , in 1888 the number had grown to 240 , and 25 were added after the Centenary in that year , making a total of 265 now
maintained and educated in the Institution . From the moment the brethren entered the ' precicnts of the School they saw joyous , pleasant , and happy faces ; they saw ladies highly qualified to discharge their duties , and they did it to [ the satisfaction of the Committee . The School was second to none in the world . He took the opportunity of thanking the Stewards for their services . He knew the large amount of labour that had already been
bestowed , and they were deeply grateful to them for their services . He hoped if they were a little short the brethren would make it up , so that the Committee could carry on the Institution to the satisfaction of everybody . Bro . F . R . W .
