The Theatres.

THE THEATRES .

Thc Pandora Theatre has been bought by the proprietor of the Cafe' Royal , but xvhether he is going to open it as a theatre or a restaurant is not knoxvn at present . The " Glass of Fashion " at the Globe has passed its fiftieth performance and seems noxv to have settled down for a good run .

# # * To the memory of our esteemed Bro . Edward Saker a handsome marble monument has been erected in the Liverpool Cemetery . Bro . Saker was for many years the lessee of the principal Liverpool theatre .

" Glad Tidings is still being played to crowded houses at the " Standard . " It is not often that a piece can be played for a length of time at an East-end theatre . The frequenters like variety . " Glad Tidings" is a drama possessing sterling merit . It has passed its fiftieth representation . Aliss Amy Steinberg ( Mrs . John Douglass ) has just been presented xvith a handsome braclet by the Company acting with her , in commemoration of the long run of the piece .

* * * Mr . Charles Duval will next week present his 100 th performance in London of his very successful entertainment in the Nexv Draxving Room of St . James ' s Hall . Hehas made arrangements to continue his entertainment , giving extra day performances every Monday , Wednesday ,

and Saturday , xvhich have been largely attended . He has added to his already successful programme some new impersonations , the speaking likenesses of Colonel Burnaby ) . Lord Wolseley , Lord Randolph Churchill , Mr . Irving , and " Number One , " are to receive an addition in the person of the senior member for Northampton , xvhich should be a "Truth-iul" likeness .

All London seems to be flocking to see Miss Mary Anderson at the Lyceum . She seems to have taken a thorough hold here on account of her admirable acting and great beauty , in xvhich there seems not to be txvo opinions . Her rendering of Parthenia sent every one to see her , and her Pauline in " The Lady of Lyons '

prevents many seeing the wonderful impersonation on account of the limit to the size of the audience , Everv night money has to be turned axvay from the doors . There is a consolation that she is likely to remain in London for some time at the Lyceum . A nexv one-act play is being xvritten by Mr . W . S . Gilbert for Miss Anderson , to be produced xvith " Pygmalion and Galatea " when " The Lady of Lyons" is withdrawn .

With such a staff of xvell-knoivn Royal Arch workers the companions present felt sure of an excellent and perfect rendering of the beautiful ceremony of exaltation , nor were they disappointed , for E . Comp . Captain Nicols . exceeded himself on this occasion , especially in the mystical lecture , xvhich he delivered in a finely-toned

didactic manner , xvhich nvetted the attention of all present , and for xvhich he received the hearty applause of the Preceptor of the chapter and of the numerous companions present . Comp . S . This chapter of improvement numbers amongst its members many distinguished Royal Arch Masons , and some of the most regular attendants live at a far distance . As thc xvorking is alxvays so perfect , and the furniture and appointments of the chapter so good , these fortnightly meetings offer a very excellent opportunity to all Royal Arch Masons in the neighbourhood of perfecting themselves in this beautiful ceremony and of fitting themselves for office in their respective regular chapters . We xvish Comp . G . Davis a continuation of his success as Preceptor .
