After the reading and confirmation of the minutes and the reading of the Warden ' s report , Bro . Terry reported the deaths of three annuitants and txvo approved candidates for the next election . Cheques xvere authorised to be signed by the chairman for annuitants and salaries , and the sum of £ 2000 xvas ordered to be xvithdrawn from the deposit account at the bank and placed to the current account . The application of two widoxvs for half their late husbands' annuities xvere granted .
A letter from Messrs . Lanfear and Stexvart xvas read xvith respect to the redemption of the tithe rent charge on the land at Croydon of eleven shillings a year , from xvhich it xvas sboxvn that by payment of £ 13 15 s ., with the Land Office fees , this annual charge could be avoided . Part of this annual
payment ol eleven shillings xvas payable by St . James ' s Schools , but the Vicar of the par ish who had been communicated xvith said there were no funds a the disposal ol his parish out of xvhich its proportion could be borne , and consequently it could not pay a proportion of the redemption money .
Bro . CHARLES LACEY said the Committee had no information as to xvhat the amount of the Land Office fees xvas . Before the Committee decided as to the redemption it should know what the fees xvere and he moved that enquiries should be made on the point and the question be postponed til ]
next meeting . Bro . J . J . BERRY seconded the motion . Bro . C . H . W suggested that if this Institution paid the whole of the redemption money it xvould be taking the position of St . James ' s Schools , and freeing them , xvhile freeing itself , without any contribution from St-James's School .
Bro . VV . J . MURLIS said the Institution ought to get St . James ' s propor . tion of the money . Bro . TERRY drexv attention to the fact that the tithe rent charge had been increasing , and there was really 110 knowing how much it might be increased . It had been 6 s . it xvas now lis ., and it might yet be more . He thought it advisable that it should be redeemed .
Bro . CHARLES L ACEY thought it xvas premature to discuss the question until they knexv what the Land Ofiice fees xvould be . Bro . RAYNHAM W . STEWART , P . G . D ., with reference tothe Land Office fees , said he xvould guarantee thut the whole charge for the redemption , including the fees , should not exceed thc ^ 13 15 s . The amount was inclusive . The CHAIRMAN said there was no doubt that Bro . Raynham Stewart's statement was correct that the £ 13 15 s . would cover everything .
Bro . CHARLES LACEY observed that on that understanding he would withdraw his motion , and move in ils stead that the terms be accepted . Bro . J . J . BERRY seconded the motion , which was then put and carried .
The petitions of four widoxvs nnd five aged brethren xvere then examined , and the petitioners xvere placed on the list of candidates for the next Ma y election . Bro . C . II . W EBB gave notice that he xvould move at the next meeting
that the Committee should take into consideration what measures ( if any ) could be adopted to assist accepted candidates for election according to the amount and length of time they have contributed to the funds of this Institu . tion . He added that the motion was introductory to a further step he proposed to take in the direction indicated .
The Committee adjourned after passing a vote of thanks to the Chairman . We regret that in our report of the Committee on October ioth the name of Bro . J . J , Berry was omitted .

GR . \ SD SUPERINTENDENT delivered the following address : Excellent companions , may I express to you my gratification , at finding myself once more able to occupy this chair as your Prox'incial Grand Superintendent , this being the thirty-ninth meeting since this Prox-inci . il Grand Chapter was formed here \\\ Dewsbury , OVA the fifth day of May , 1858 , and my obligations are due to the companions of the " Three Grand Principles" Chapter , No . 208 , for permission to assemble in their Temple .
I am glad to tell you that " Holme Valley " Chapter , No . 652 , xvas consecrated on the 23 rd April , 1883 , and that a charter has been granted , but not yet received , for " Nelson of the Nile" Chapter , No . 264 , Batley I congratulate the conx'ocation on these evidences of prosperity of this symbolical degree . Perhaps I may be permitted once more to express my acknowledgements to the companions and Masons of this province for the noble xvay in which they made holiday and left
their x * arious employments and businesses , and filled the Huddersneld Town Hall ( so kindly placed at the disposal of the Craft by the Mayor , Bro . J . E . Brigg ) on the occasion of the presentation of a Masonic address of xvelcome to H . R . H the Prov . Grand Master of Oxfordshire . I xvas delighted beyond measure with the marvellous manner the ceremonial and procession xvere carried out , and the splendid manner , xvithout barricades , you kept the ground in front of the railway station until thc departure 01
their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Albany for London , and your march back to the Town Hall to close the Provincial Grand Lodge . The Duke of Albany , through his secretary , has expressed to my deputy that H . R . H . was greatly pleased xvith the reception the Masons gave him < and desired him to take an opportunity of telling them so , and that he would gladly sign his name in the books of the five Huddersneld Lodges . I am glad to tell you that " Holme Valley " Chapter , No . 652 , xvas consecrated on the 23 rd April , 1883 , and that a charter has been granted , but not yet received , for " Nelson of the Nile" Chapter , No . 264 , Batley I congratulate the conx'ocation on these evidences of prosperity of this symbolical degree . The Duke of Albany , through his secretary , has expressed to my deputy that H . R . H . was greatly pleased xvith the reception the Masons gave him < and desired him to take an opportunity of telling them so , and that he would gladly sign his name in the books of the five Huddersneld Lodges .
