minutes passed , and communications read , a successful ballot was taken on behalf of Air . YV . A . Beck and Mr . Dergate , who were duly initiated into the order by the YV . M . After which the YV . M . then very ably raised Bros . Paine and Stace to the sublime degree of M . M . Reference was made to the recent decease of Bro . S . Chester , and a
resolution proposed expressing the deep sense of regret of the members of this lodge at the untimely occurrence . " Hearty good wishes " having been given , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a well served collation . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were received and duly honoured .
SUNDERLAND . —Palatine Lodge ( No . 97 ) . The regular meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday evening , the 9 th inst ., in the Masonic Hall , Park-terrace , the YV . M ., Bro . John C . Moor , P . G . J . D ., in the chair . This was the first meeting held in the Masonic Hall since its redecoration and reventilation , the former work having been admirably carried out by Bro . R . YV . Halfnight , and
consequentl y there was a very large attendance of members and visitors . The YV . M . and brethren also received an official visit of the W . carried out the decorations , acknowledged the compliment . The YV . M . then most cordially thanked Bro . Hy . Dixon , YV . M ., the Past Masters , officers , and brethren of the Percy Lodge , No . 1427 , for their official visit . Bro . Moor said the P . Ms ., Wardens , and brethren of the Palatine Lodge were much gratified at receiving such a visit , and to see the Percy Lodge in such good numbers ( 14 ) . They
trusted the visit would be enjoyable , and that in November the Master , Wardens , and brethren of the Palatine Lodge should be glad to return the visit . Bro . H . Dixon , YV . M . 1427 , expressed the pleasure it gave him and his officers and brethren to pay a visit to Sunderland to the Palatine Lodge . They had been pleased to see the manner in which the work of the lodge was done by the W . M . and the Past
Masters by whom he was assisted , and particularly at the superb way in which the Degree had been given by Bro . T . M . YVatson , P . M . They would extend the hearty welcome which had been given them should the W . M . and brethren of the Palatine Lodge visit them in Newcastle in November . The lodge was afterwards closed in due form , and a most enjoyable evening was afterwards spent at refreshment . ¦ TOWCESTER . —Fidelity Lodge ( No . 445 ) . — The installation meeting of this lodge took placeon the 3 rd inst ., at the Talbot Hotel , when there was a good attendance of members of the lodge and visiting brethren . Bro . W . H . Packer , the W . M ., presided , and after the usual
Masonic business , Bro . J . L . Jones , P . P . G . J . W ., opened the lodge as a Board of Installed Masters , and then proceeded to ins-all Bro . T . Oldham as W . Af . for the ensuing year , and performed the ceremony in such an admirable manner that Bro . G . Osborn , P . M ., P . P . G . S . W . Prov . Grand Master , His Grace the Duke of Manchester ; the V . W . Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Butler Wilkins ; and the
Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Norths and Hunts , Past and Present . " Bro . G . Ellard , Prov . G . D . C , in responding spoke of the harmonious manner in which the various lodges in the province worked under the rule of the Deputy Prov . Grand Master .
Bro . G . Osborn proposed "The W . M . of the Lodge of Fidelity , " and referred to the past career of the lodge . The W . M ., Bro . T . Oldham , in reply , expressed his intention to do his utmost during the coming year to promote the " prosperity of Masonry in general and the Fidelity Lodge in particular . " Bro . Spencer gave "The P . M . ' s ot the Lodge of
Fidelity , " to which Bro . YV . M . Packer , the I . P . M ., suitably replied . Bro . Sheppard proposed " The Installing Master , " and Bro . J . C . Jones , in reply , expressed the pleasure it gave him to do anything that lay in his power for the prosperity of the Lodge of Fidelity . Bro . W . A . Howes gave " The Treasurer , " and Bro . G .
Osborn in responding alluded to his long connection with the Craft in the province , and to the Fidelity Lodge in particular , and then proposed " The Masonic Charities . " Bro . Atkins ( who was Provincial Steward for the Boys ' School last year ) thanked the brethren for the very generous support they had given to his Stewardship . Bro . Whitton proposed " The Visiting Brethren " in very appropriate terms , to which Bro . J . T . Green replied in his
usual hearty and happy manner , and the following brethren also responded , Bros . J . J . Hart , Slokes , Christmas , Burford , and others . The enjoyment of the evening was greatly enhanced by songs from Bros . Howe , J . J . Hart , Newton , Shearsmith , Atkins , Burford , Wilcox-Smith , YV . H . Linnell , YV . M . Crowley , T . D . sister lodge—No . 1032—would be admitted free of charge . The other routine business was disposed of , and a collection was taken up on behalf of the YVest Lancashire Benevolent Institution . The lodge was then closed in the usual manner , and * the brethren adjourned to Stansfield's Imperial Hotel for supper .

Norris had provided an exceedingly choice banquet , which was served up in the best style , and to which about 30 sat down under the presidency of the W . M . £ [ At the conclusion of the banquet the usual Masonic toasts were duly proposed and honoured , and a most enjoyable evening was spent , several capital songs being sung by
Bros . Spender , Lovell , Sparks , Foley , Howes , Jones , Leaker , and others , and a recitation by Bro . H . Rodway . Occasion was also taken to present a handsome gold Past Master's jewel ( specially manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , London ) to Bro . VV . Day Lovell , P . M ., for the valuable services rendered by him during the past three years . Notwithstanding that a number of brethren were kept away by the inclement weather , it was one of the most successful meetings the lodge has ever had .
