AXMINSTKR . —Virtue and Honour Lodge ( No . 494 ) . —Opening of a Nexv Masonic Hall . — For the last 40 years this lodge has held its meetings at the George Hetel , but the room , although sufficiently roomy and comfortable , has long been felt to be unsuitable for the purpose , being connected by txx * o doors xvith the house , and used also for general purposes . The establishment of a
billiard-room , a short time since , in close proximity to the lodge-room brought matters to a climax , and made it imperative to thebrcthren to find another home . After vainly seeking a long time for a suitable site , an opportunity for removal xvas offered by Bro . Forward , Registrar C . C , xvho being about to reconstruct his offices , kindly offered to build a lodge-room over a large board-room he found necessary
to include in his plan . His offer xvas , of course , accepted , and the xvork placed in thc hands of Bro . J . G . Pinney , architect , and Bros . W . B . Parsons and P .- Pcrryman , builders , xvhose united efforts have resulted in the erection of a very elegant and comfortable room , ante-room , & c , admirably adapted for Alasonic purposes , both for the lodge and chapter . The hall is about 30 ft . long by 17 ft ., xvith a
xvaggon roof , 13 ft . high in centre . It is lighted by a fivelight gas chandelier and a large Gothic xvindow of cathedral glass , xvith a red and blue Royal Arch border , and a stained glass Masonic design in the top panel . The mantelpiece is of enamelled Devonshire marble , xvith gilt Craft and Arch emblems . The xvhole effect is bright and pleasing , and reflects credit on the handicraft of the brethren who havc

xvas in thc work , and if he failed it xvould be from xvant of ability , and not from lack of zeal . He had the consolation of knoxving that he could reckon on their kind assistance , and he hoped also on their indulgence if he fell short . Bro . J . Bance proposed the " Alasonic Charities , " and remarked upon the unprccedentedly large sum of £ 50 , 000 , xvhich had been raised last year on behalf of the three great Alasonic Charities .
Bro . Belcher , S . W ., suitably responded . 'The VVorshipful Master then proposed " Thc Installing AIaster , " Bro . Stephen Knight , xvho xvas thoroughly deserving of all that the brethren could say of him . If there xvas one man more than another xvho had Alasonry at heart it xvas Bro . Knight . In addition to his xvell knoxvn kindness of heart , he had also thc enviable ability of most accurately rendering the beautiful ritual of their Craft , a
further proof of xvhich he had given that evening in thc excellent manner in xvhich he conducted the installation ceremony . And then last , but not least , they all knexv that xvhen charity xvas in question , Bro . Knight xvas alxvays ready to perform his part , xvhether privately or publicly . There xvere many cases of unseen kindness xvhich could be told to his credit , and publicly thc medals he xvorc spoke
for themselves . Bro . Stephen Knight , xvho xvas xvarmly received , said it had given him great pleasure to install his friend , Bro . Plenty , xvho earned out everything that he undertook xvith a thoroughness that ensured success . He xvas sure that he xvould do the same during his year of office , xvhich he hoped xvould be a happy and prosperous one for the Lodge and its members .
The VV . AL then gave "The Immediate Past Alaster and thc other Past Masters of the Lodge of Hope . " Bro . Toms had thoroughly proved himself xvorthy of thc confidence placed in him . AXMINSTKR . —Virtue and Honour Lodge ( No . 494 ) . —Opening of a Nexv Masonic Hall . — For the last 40 years this lodge has held its meetings at the George Hetel , but the room , although sufficiently roomy and comfortable , has long been felt to be unsuitable for the purpose , being connected by txx * o doors xvith the house , and used also for general purposes . The establishment of a
billiard-room , a short time since , in close proximity to the lodge-room brought matters to a climax , and made it imperative to thebrcthren to find another home . After vainly seeking a long time for a suitable site , an opportunity for removal xvas offered by Bro . Forward , Registrar C . C , xvho being about to reconstruct his offices , kindly offered to build a lodge-room over a large board-room he found necessary
to include in his plan . His offer xvas , of course , accepted , and the xvork placed in thc hands of Bro . J . G . Pinney , architect , and Bros . W . B . Parsons and P .- Pcrryman , builders , xvhose united efforts have resulted in the erection of a very elegant and comfortable room , ante-room , & c , admirably adapted for Alasonic purposes , both for the lodge and chapter . The hall is about 30 ft . long by 17 ft ., xvith a
xvaggon roof , 13 ft . high in centre . It is lighted by a fivelight gas chandelier and a large Gothic xvindow of cathedral glass , xvith a red and blue Royal Arch border , and a stained glass Masonic design in the top panel . The mantelpiece is of enamelled Devonshire marble , xvith gilt Craft and Arch emblems . The xvhole effect is bright and pleasing , and reflects credit on the handicraft of the brethren who havc

Stephen Knight , xvho xvas thoroughly deserving of all that the brethren could say of him . If there xvas one man more than another xvho had Alasonry at heart it xvas Bro . Knight . In addition to his xvell knoxvn kindness of heart , he had also thc enviable ability of most accurately rendering the beautiful ritual of their Craft , a
further proof of xvhich he had given that evening in thc excellent manner in xvhich he conducted the installation ceremony . And then last , but not least , they all knexv that xvhen charity xvas in question , Bro . Knight xvas alxvays ready to perform his part , xvhether privately or publicly . There xvere many cases of unseen kindness xvhich could be told to his credit , and publicly thc medals he xvorc spoke
for themselves . Bro . Stephen Knight , xvho xvas xvarmly received , said it had given him great pleasure to install his friend , Bro .
