A . Campbell vvere passed to the Second Degree . The sum of 20 guineas was voted to the Jubilee Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , to be placed on the list of Bro . J . Willing - , P . M ., Treasurer . Lodge vvas then closed , and after a weil-served banquet the usual toasts received hearty recognition . Bro . E . N . Dale , I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the
VV . M ., and said that as the occunant of the chair had set an example of sho-1 speeches , and the brethren vvere anxious to smoke , he should follow the example . The W . M . had done his duty admirably in the lodge , and presided in an excellent manner at the banquet table , showing that the choice they made in electing him was a good one . They wished Bro . Foster W . M ., success and happiness during
the remaining portion of his year of office . Bro . H . S . Foster , VV . M ., in response , said that having set an example of short speeches , it was hardly likely he should make a long one in replying to this toast . He , however , thanked the I . P . M . and the brethren for the way the toast had been proposed and received . He vvas exceedingly obliged to them for the position in vvhich they had
placed him , and as he was proud of it he should do all he could to maintain the lustre of previous Masters of the lodge and leave an unsullied record . In giving "The Past Masters" the Worshipful Master remarked that there vvere but three present that evening . He was much obliged to Bro . Dale , I . P . M ., for his kind assistance during the present year . Bro . I . Willing , P . M .,
vvas their Treasurer , and controlled the pursestrings so excellently that they had given 20 guineas that evening to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , vvhich amount the Treasurer would no doubt be pleased to add to his list . They were only too pleased to see Bro . Stiles , P . M ., their Secretary , present , and they knew the able manner in which he worked for the lodge .
Bro . E . N . Dale , I . P . M ., returned thanks for the kindly mention of his name , and assured them that during his year as I . P . M . he should do his best to assist the VV . M . in the working , for he should be sorry to see the work deteriorate . He ( the I . P . M . ) had a good deal to be thankful for in the assistance he received , and , therefore , he should be only too pleased to assist the present VVorshipful Master .
Bro . J . Willing , P . M ., Treas ., in response , thanked the brethren for the kind way in vvhich his name vvas always received , and assured them that the feeling vvas reciprocated . He had the misfortune to be absent on the two previous occasions , once on important business and once from illhealth . He took the liberty of sending each of the members a circular , as he thought it his duty to acquaint them
vvith the special privileges attaching to subscriptions given at the Jubilee Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Their lodge vvas not old , but vvas always to the fore in the Charities . They had always done their utmost to support these Charities , and they liked to see the brethren give their time and attention to see that the money was properly spent . The money was put to the best use ,
and although he was on the Committee of the Royal Masonic Masonic Institution for Boys , he thought the Institution nearest and dearest to them vvas the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . He was a poor advocate in pleading to them the cause of Charity , but the brethren knew the Institution thoroughly well . He thanked the VV . M . and brethren for the 20 guineas voted that evening .
Bro , VV . M . Stiles , P . M ., Sec , also replied . Bro . J . Stephens , P . M . 1425 , W . M . 753 , replying for "The Visitors , " said he had occasion at the last meeting of this lodge , at vvhich he vvas present , to congratulate the W . M . on the admirable manner in vvhich he discharged his duties . The W . M . had a happy knack of discharging those duties in a manner implying that he was born to the
position . He vvas pleased to know that their estimable Bro . Willing vvas going to represent what to his mind vvas the noblest of the Charities in connection vvith Masonry . He hoped to see Bro . Willing vvith a handsome list , for he was universally beloved , and he also hoped that list would reach the total of his ( Bro . Stephen's ) wife who already had / 270 on her list .
Bro . C S . Lee , W . M . 1599 , said it had been for a Jong time his desire to visit this lodge , vvhich vvas named after a neighbourhood in which his own business lay , but unfortunately his own lodge met on the same day . However , through the kindness of Bro . Willing he vvas their guest that night . He regretted he vvas prevented from seeing the
working , but it afforded him pleasure to be present at the festive board . He should look forward to an opportunity of seeing the working , and should call upon Bro . Willing to give him that opportunity , and from the manner in vvhich the VV . M . had conducted the proceedings he was confident of a treat in store .
Bros . Lloyd and Hancock also responded . Bro . Willing , P . M ., Treas ., before the Tyler ' s toast closed the proceedings , announced that the total of his list had reached 95 guineas , vvhich the VV . M . had kindly increased to 100 guineas . Bro . Seary , Org ., presided at the pianoforte , and several brethren assisted in the musical programme .

Adolphus Alexander ,

The usual toasts vvere proposed and received vvith acclamation , especially " The Health of the M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of VVales , " when the W . M . alluded to the happy engagement of H . R . H . Prince Albeit Victor , Duke
of Clarence and Avondale . Bro . Geo . Brown , P . M ., in a very happy speech , replied for "The Visitors , " and complimented the founders of the lodge upon getting together so many eminent medical Masons , for he felt sure that the lodge would make a double bond of brotherhood in the profession .
Bro . Collins , P . M . 7 66 , also made an instructive speech , and praised the way so young a lodge performed the ceremonies and general routine work . The intervals between the toasts were enlivened by the vocal talents of Bros . Moss Campbell , Leeson , James Blackmore , and others .

Gundry , one of the founders of the lodge , and sometime D . P . G . M . of the province . Nothing further offering , the lodge vvas closed , and the customary adjournment took place .

S . in a very impressive manner , for which , at a later stage of the day ' s proceedings , he received a unanimous and cordial vote of thanks . The VV . the distinguished brethren who had preceded him in the chair . He also paid a special tribute to the devotion and the untiring efforts of his immediate predecessor , Bro . R . C . Marsh . The toast of " The Visitors " was submitted by Bro . H . H . Campion , P . M ., and replied to by Bros . Walters , P . M ., Prov . CO . ; Walsh , VV . M . SS 7 ; and J . Tidmarsh ,
W . M . 3157 , all of whom bore testimony to the excellence of the working and the heartiness of their welcome . P . G . O . There vvas a goodly number of visitors , the Bank of England , Love and Honour , Science , Jersey , and other lodges being represented . The

Committee , which vvas to the effect that all accounts had been settled , and during the year a gratuity of five guineas had been presented to the Tyler tor long and faithful services , and 25 guineas had been voted for the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . Bro . Huntley , P . M ., P . P . G . P ., addressing the Installing Master , said he congratulated him upon the excellent manner in which he had
performed the ceremony ot installation that day . They vvere deeply indebted to him for the valuable services he had rendered that lodge , for he had served them as a true and faithful brother for nearly a quarter of a century , having taken every office from the lowest rung on the ladder to the highest degree , after vvhich he ( Bro . Hayter ) undertook the office of Secretary for some years , and had since been
the Treasurer for many years . What he had done had always been done well , and it had reflected the greatest credit on him and honour to the lodge . Bro . Hayter had always been ready to assist and instruct the young Mason in his duties , so that everything might be done decently and . in order . Very few Past Masters had left the chair during the past 15 years but vvhat owed him a
debt of gratitude . Like all true Masons , he sought to penetrate deeply into the mysteries of the Craft—always ready to protect , never to betray . His zeal for Freemasonry and the progress he had made pointed him out as a brother worthy of their favour and esteem . In the name of the members of the lodge , he presented him with a Past Master ' s jewel . The Latin inscription
thereon was most appropriate to himself , the translation being " Let him who merits the palm , wear it . " Might he bear that palm for many years to come , and might the G . A . O . T . U . give him long life , health , and happiness , Bro . Huntley then pinned on the jewel amid the acclamations of the brethren . Bro . Hayter said they would excuse him from saying many words . Their kindness in presenting
him vvith that handsome jewel had so overcome him that he could not give his feelings words . The jewel , a massive gold one , consisted of a rive-pointed star , on which vvas a circle bearing the words " Qui palmam meruit fereat , " the Past Master ' s jewel being on a plate in the centre . On the obverse : "Presented to Bro . E . R . Hayter , P . M . 976 , P . P . G . O . Som ., by the brethren of 97 6 . " The banquet was held at the Blue Ball Hotel .
CAMBRIDGE . Scientific Lodge ( No . 88 ) . —At the regular meeting on the 14 th inst ., Bro . Frank Piggott , W . M ., initiated Mr . Charles Percy Jones . Bro . Thos . Hunnybun was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . Bro . W . P . Spalding vvas unanimousl y elected W . M . for the year 1892 , when the reign of the " P ' s " vvill come to an end . It is not a
little singular that the recent Masters in succession should have been ^ Bros . Pashler , Papworth , Pryor , Purchas , and Piggott . The lodge has had a very successful year under the outgoing VV . M ., who has raised seven candidates , passed three , and initiated four . The strength of the lodge is now So . It is proposed to limit the number to SS . 'Ihe
Three Degrees were conferred at the April lodge . There was no work at the November lodge , but the brethren of Nos . SS and 441 united in a most successful commemorative banquet in honour of the 50 th anniversary of the birthday of the M . VV . the Grand Master , when the principal toast was given by the new Provincial Grand Master of Cambridgeshire .
CHELMSFORD . Good Fellowship Lodge ( No . 276 ) . —On > Thursday , the ioth inst ., the annual meeting of this lodge was held at the Corn Exchange , when Bro . F . H . Meggy vvas installed as VV . M . for the ensuing year . The ceremony was performed in his usual able manner by Bro . F . A . Philbrick , Q . C , G . Reg ., Deputy Piov . Grand Master , who

and although he was on the Committee of the Royal Masonic Masonic Institution for Boys , he thought the Institution nearest and dearest to them vvas the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . He was a poor advocate in pleading to them the cause of Charity , but the brethren knew the Institution thoroughly well . He thanked the VV . M . and brethren for the 20 guineas voted that evening .

M . 753 , replying for "The Visitors , " said he had occasion at the last meeting of this lodge , at vvhich he vvas present , to congratulate the W . M . on the admirable manner in vvhich he discharged his duties . The W . M . had a happy knack of discharging those duties in a manner implying that he was born to the
position . He vvas pleased to know that their estimable Bro . Willing vvas going to represent what to his mind vvas the noblest of the Charities in connection vvith Masonry . He hoped to see Bro . Willing vvith a handsome list , for he was universally beloved , and he also hoped that list would reach the total of his ( Bro . Stephen's ) wife who already had / 270 on her list .
Bro . C S . Lee , W . M . 1599 , said it had been for a Jong time his desire to visit this lodge , vvhich vvas named after a neighbourhood in which his own business lay , but unfortunately his own lodge met on the same day . However , through the kindness of Bro . Willing he vvas their guest that night . He regretted he vvas prevented from seeing the
working , but it afforded him pleasure to be present at the festive board . He should look forward to an opportunity of seeing the working , and should call upon Bro . Willing to give him that opportunity , and from the manner in vvhich the VV . M . had conducted the proceedings he was confident of a treat in store .

Bro . Huntley , P . M ., P . P . G . P ., addressing the Installing Master , said he congratulated him upon the excellent manner in which he had
performed the ceremony ot installation that day . They vvere deeply indebted to him for the valuable services he had rendered that lodge , for he had served them as a true and faithful brother for nearly a quarter of a century , having taken every office from the lowest rung on the ladder to the highest degree , after vvhich he ( Bro . Hayter ) undertook the office of Secretary for some years , and had since been
the Treasurer for many years . What he had done had always been done well , and it had reflected the greatest credit on him and honour to the lodge . Bro . Hayter had always been ready to assist and instruct the young Mason in his duties , so that everything might be done decently and . in order . Very few Past Masters had left the chair during the past 15 years but vvhat owed him a
debt of gratitude . Like all true Masons , he sought to penetrate deeply into the mysteries of the Craft—always ready to protect , never to betray . His zeal for Freemasonry and the progress he had made pointed him out as a brother worthy of their favour and esteem . In the name of the members of the lodge , he presented him with a Past Master ' s jewel . The Latin inscription
thereon was most appropriate to himself , the translation being " Let him who merits the palm , wear it . " Might he bear that palm for many years to come , and might the G . A . O . T . U . give him long life , health , and happiness , Bro . Huntley then pinned on the jewel amid the acclamations of the brethren . Bro . Hayter said they would excuse him from saying many words . Their kindness in presenting
him vvith that handsome jewel had so overcome him that he could not give his feelings words . The jewel , a massive gold one , consisted of a rive-pointed star , on which vvas a circle bearing the words " Qui palmam meruit fereat , " the Past Master ' s jewel being on a plate in the centre . On the obverse : "Presented to Bro . E . R . Hayter , P . M . 976 , P . P . G . O . Som ., by the brethren of 97 6 . " The banquet was held at the Blue Ball Hotel .
CAMBRIDGE . Scientific Lodge ( No . 88 ) . —At the regular meeting on the 14 th inst ., Bro . Frank Piggott , W . M ., initiated Mr . Charles Percy Jones . Bro . Thos . Hunnybun was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . Bro . W . P . Spalding vvas unanimousl y elected W . M . for the year 1892 , when the reign of the " P ' s " vvill come to an end . It is not a
little singular that the recent Masters in succession should have been ^ Bros . Pashler , Papworth , Pryor , Purchas , and Piggott . The lodge has had a very successful year under the outgoing VV . M ., who has raised seven candidates , passed three , and initiated four . The strength of the lodge is now So . It is proposed to limit the number to SS . 'Ihe
Three Degrees were conferred at the April lodge . There was no work at the November lodge , but the brethren of Nos . SS and 441 united in a most successful commemorative banquet in honour of the 50 th anniversary of the birthday of the M .
