Rouse Larter as W . M . of the Burgoyne Lodge , No . 902 , will take place at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , on Monday next , the 23 rd inst ., at four p . m .
Bro . the Hon . Sir Edmund Monson , her Majesty's Ambassador at the Court of Vienna , was received in audience on Monday by King George of Greece , who remained in conversation with his Excellency for about an hour . The design submitted by Bro . E . B . I'Anson , of Laurence Pountney-hill , has been adopted by the Newington Vestry for the new baths and wash-houses they are about to erect at a cost of £ 40 , 000 .
It is stated that the Queen and Court will remain at Balmoral till about the 24 th November—which is rather later than usual—and will then return to Windsor"Castle , whence just before Christmas she will return to Osborne . The British Mediterranean Squadron , under the
command of Vice-Admiral Sir Culmer Seymour , and escorted by the Italian ironclad Italia , arrived and anchored in the harbour of Taranto on Monday , the usual salutes being exchanged between the ships and the forts . The reception by the inhabitants , no less than by the authorities , was of the most enthusiastic character .

MONCKTON . - —We learn that a circular bearing the signatures of several of the most prominent chairman of Committees in the Court of Common Council , has been issued to members of the Court suggesting that the valuable services rendered to the Corporation by the Town Clerk ( Sir John li . Monckton ) for nearly a quarter of a century should be recognised in a
manner worthy of his stewardship . Whether it is the intention of the initiators of the movement to confine the subscription strictly to corporators or not we cannot say , but Sir John Monckton ' s popularity is so general with the many who do business with the Corporation , that they would , we feel sure , if approached , readily co-operate with the Court in carrying the project to a most gratifying conclusion . —City Press .
Marshal MacMahon , Duke of Magenta , died in his Chateau of La Foreat on Tuesday morning at the ripe age of 84 , having been born in the year 1 S 0 S . In 1 S 2 J he entered St . Cyr , and gained his first experience of war in the French Expedition to Algeria in 1 S 30 . In 1 S 4 S he became Brigadier-Gsneral , and in 1852 a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour . He joined the French Army before
Sebastopol in 1 S 55 , and commanded the troops which assaulted and carried the Malakoff . In 1 S 59 he held high command under the Emperor Napoleon HI . in the war against Austria , and for his brilliant conduct at the battle of Magenta was made a Duke and Marshal of France . In the Franco-German War he commanded the French at Worth or Reichstrofen , where , after gallantly fighting all
day against vastly superior numbers , he was compelled to retreat . The r mperor then placed him in command of the army for the relief of Borgaine , but he was wounded and taken prisoner at Sedan . On the rest ration of peace , he was entrusted with the command of the troops which put down the Commune . Subsequently he became President of the French Republic , but retired from his post , and lived
in retirement , it is proposed to give the gallant soldier a public funeral of the most imposing character . DEVON MASONIC EDUCATIONAL FuND .-The success of the concert given by the brethren of the Three Towns last year in aid of the Devon Masonic Educational Fund was so complete that it has been determined to make a similar effort this year . Last year ' s concert , thanks to Uro .
VV . Willoughby ' s valuable services , yielded a net profit of nearly £ 70 , and in the same able hands it is anticipated that the forthcoming concert will be even more successful . Plymouth Guildhall has been secured for Wednesday , November 29 th , and Bro . Willoughby has already sketched out a programme which will be equally divided between English ballads and selections from the grand operas . The
best local talent will again be engaged , and a popular and attractive feature will be a vocal waltz and polka , which was given with such unbounded success at the recent Covent Garden promenade concerts . This will be sung by a choir ot about 50 children , who will be specially trained for the purpose . At a meeting of subscribers to be held at Exeter on the 30 th instant two children will be elected on the fund , making a total of 20 , the largest number ever on the fund
at one time . A sum of £ 300 is required annually to maintain and educate these children , and nearly the whole of that sum is raised by the voluntary contributions of the brethren . Often , however , as Bro . Hughan points out in his report , just issued , " some children have to be disappointed , and as it is simply impossible to conduct the lund more economically or efficiently , it rests solely with the lodges and brethren in Devon to decide whether the number ot beneficiaries shall be further increased .

It is stated that the Queen and Court will remain at Balmoral till about the 24 th November—which is rather later than usual—and will then return to Windsor"Castle , whence just before Christmas she will return to Osborne . The British Mediterranean Squadron , under the
command of Vice-Admiral Sir Culmer Seymour , and escorted by the Italian ironclad Italia , arrived and anchored in the harbour of Taranto on Monday , the usual salutes being exchanged between the ships and the forts . The reception by the inhabitants , no less than by the authorities , was of the most enthusiastic character .
On Saturday evening last the Lord Mayor entertained the members of the Royal Blackheath Golf Club , of which his lordship is Vice-President , at dinner at the Mansion House . The guests numbered about 120 , the Captain of the Club being the guest of the evening , while among the others were Bros . Alderman Sir Joseph Renals and Alderman and Sheriff Dimsdale , and the Astronomer Royal .

The Duchess of Teck , who was accompanied by her daughter , the Duchess of York , laid the foundation-stone of the new church in Kew-road , Richmond , which is about to be erected as a memorial to the late Canon Hales , on the 14 th inst . The Royal party were very heartily received by the large concourse of people who had assembled to witness the inteiesting function , and when the ceremony was over , the Duchess received purses in aid of the building fund .
PROPOSED TESTIMONIAL TO SIR J B . MONCKTON . - —We learn that a circular bearing the signatures of several of the most prominent chairman of Committees in the Court of Common Council , has been issued to members of the Court suggesting that the valuable services rendered to the Corporation by the Town Clerk ( Sir John li . Monckton ) for nearly a quarter of a century should be recognised in a
manner worthy of his stewardship . Whether it is the intention of the initiators of the movement to confine the subscription strictly to corporators or not we cannot say , but Sir John Monckton ' s popularity is so general with the many who do business with the Corporation , that they would , we feel sure , if approached , readily co-operate with the Court in carrying the project to a most gratifying conclusion . —City Press .
Marshal MacMahon , Duke of Magenta , died in his Chateau of La Foreat on Tuesday morning at the ripe age of 84 , having been born in the year 1 S 0 S . In 1 S 2 J he entered St . Cyr , and gained his first experience of war in the French Expedition to Algeria in 1 S 30 . In 1 S 4 S he became Brigadier-Gsneral , and in 1852 a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour . He joined the French Army before
Sebastopol in 1 S 55 , and commanded the troops which assaulted and carried the Malakoff . In 1 S 59 he held high command under the Emperor Napoleon HI . in the war against Austria , and for his brilliant conduct at the battle of Magenta was made a Duke and Marshal of France . In the Franco-German War he commanded the French at Worth or Reichstrofen , where , after gallantly fighting all
day against vastly superior numbers , he was compelled to retreat . The r mperor then placed him in command of the army for the relief of Borgaine , but he was wounded and taken prisoner at Sedan . On the rest ration of peace , he was entrusted with the command of the troops which put down the Commune . Subsequently he became President of the French Republic , but retired from his post , and lived
in retirement , it is proposed to give the gallant soldier a public funeral of the most imposing character . DEVON MASONIC EDUCATIONAL FuND .-The success of the concert given by the brethren of the Three Towns last year in aid of the Devon Masonic Educational Fund was so complete that it has been determined to make a similar effort this year . Last year ' s concert , thanks to Uro .
VV . Willoughby ' s valuable services , yielded a net profit of nearly £ 70 , and in the same able hands it is anticipated that the forthcoming concert will be even more successful . Plymouth Guildhall has been secured for Wednesday , November 29 th , and Bro . Willoughby has already sketched out a programme which will be equally divided between English ballads and selections from the grand operas . The
best local talent will again be engaged , and a popular and attractive feature will be a vocal waltz and polka , which was given with such unbounded success at the recent Covent Garden promenade concerts . This will be sung by a choir ot about 50 children , who will be specially trained for the purpose . At a meeting of subscribers to be held at Exeter on the 30 th instant two children will be elected on the fund , making a total of 20 , the largest number ever on the fund
at one time . A sum of £ 300 is required annually to maintain and educate these children , and nearly the whole of that sum is raised by the voluntary contributions of the brethren . Often , however , as Bro . Hughan points out in his report , just issued , " some children have to be disappointed , and as it is simply impossible to conduct the lund more economically or efficiently , it rests solely with the lodges and brethren in Devon to decide whether the number ot beneficiaries shall be further increased .

The Duke of Connaught is now granting leave of absence to many of the officers of the Aldershot Division , under the provision made by Sir Evelyn Wood im nediately after the conclusion of the manoeuvres , by which it was directed that so far as possible officers shall be granted two and a half months' leave between the beginning of October and the end of February .
