Leggatt , after which the lodge was closed . After an excellent banquet , the usual toasts were heartily proposed and received . Bro . Raymond H . Thrupp , P . A . G . D . C , Dep . Prov . G . M ., replying lor " The Grand Officers , " said the toast would

always be well received so long as they had at their head such distinguished men and hard-working Masons as the Earls of Lathom and Mount Edgcumbe . Fie wished to say a word or two as to their Deputy Prov . G . M . It was two years since he had the pleasure of visiting them , and as they were aware , there were 39 lodges in the province , and it was , therefore impossible for him to visit every lodge each year . He rejoiced that night to lind this important lodge

was still prospering in numbers , in unity , and brotherly love , and in good working , not only in the Master , but in the officers . He believed they had installed a thorough good working Master , and from what he had seen of the initiation the W . M . was supported by good working officers . These brethren would appreciate his hearty advice to keep up their good work , and thus assist the Master , so that the brother in the chair dismissed a candidate , he could do so

with the full confidence that the officers would carry on their work . So long as these things were observed , so long would the lodge flourish , and be one of the most prosperous in the province . Bro . E . Clark , P . P . G . S . of VV ., responded for "The Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and said it was now some few years ago since they had the privilege of uniting their strength to form the present Provincial Grand

Lodge . He had the honour of receiving Provincial Grand office at the opening of that Prov . Grand Lodge . The Villiers Lodge should feel proud of the presence of the Dep . Prov . Grand Master that night , and he was sure the Prov . G . M . received much assistance from that distinguished brother . Bro . G . S . Peachey , LP . M ., proposed " The Worshipful Master , " and said the workingof liro . Mills in the First

Degree augured well for the other two . The brethren would , therefore , drink to his good health , and wish him a happy and prosperous year of office . Bro . E . J . Mills , W . M ., said he could hardly lind sufficient language to respond for the toast , and the eulogiums passed upon him by the l . P . M . were most undeserved . He , however , thanked them for their kind and hearty reception . He felt deeply honoured at being placed

n the chair of this , his mother lodge . He should certainly , during his year of office , endeavour to deserve the good opinion they entertained of him , and hoped the officers would assist him in carrying on the work of the lodge as it had been done in the past . He had another toast to propose , which was that of " The Installing and Past Masters . " Bro . Peachey , I . P . M ., during the past year had done everything he possibly could to carry on the work ,

and , although he had not had the amount of work his predecessors had secured , yet , whatever he had put his hand to he had carried out to the best of his ability . At the last meeting the brethren unanimously voted a Past Master's jewel to Bro . Peachey as a memento of his term of office , and he ( the VV . M . ) had much pleasure in attaching that jewel to the l . P . M . ' s breast , wishing him long life to honour them with his presence . He was indebted to Bro .

Thomas , P . M ., for installing htm , to Bro . Monson , P . M ., for acting as D . C , and to Bro . Adams , P . M ., for delivering the addresses in such a masterly manner . Bro . G . J . Thomas , P . M ., in reply , said he thought great credit was due to the Past Masters for the manner in which they had always conducted their work , and they were always ready to assist . If he had failed in the installation ceremony , there were nearly a dozen present who could

have taken his place . It was a pleasure to him to do anything for the lodge , for he liked Masonry and liked work . Bro . G . S . Peachey , LP . M ., said that being such a baby as a Past Master it would be presumption to respond for them . He was grateful for their kindness in presenting him

the jewel , and assured them that his year of office had been one of the happiest of his life . "The Initiate" having been honoured , " The Visitors " was then given , and happily responded to by Bro . Hughes , 27 , after which the Tyler's toast concluded a pleasant gathering .

Wolsey Lodge ( No . 1656 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Greyhound Hotel on the gth inst . Among those present were Bros . H . J . Bond , VV . M . ; J . Spooner , S . W . ; VV T . LP . M . ; R . Drummond , P . M ., P . P . G . P . ; ) . C . J essett , P . M . 1512 , P . P . G . S . B . ; andothers . The lodge was then closed . A banquet followed . Upon the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Craft toasts were duly honoured . Bro . E . Dire , P . G . Std . Br ., responded effectively on behalf of "The Prov . Grand Officers . "

Bro . Sapsworth proposed "The Health of the W . M . " He said that their W . M . had performed that evening the ceremony of raising in a most perfect manner , as well as the ceremony of passing . He trusted that those officers of the lodge who were anxious to follow in Bro . Bond ' s footsteps would lose no time , but attend lodges of instruction regularl y in order to periect themselves . The W . M . having replied , gave " The Visitors , " to which Bros . Page , Laffan , and Holland replied .

'The W . AL , in giving " The Past Masters , " particularly alluded to Bro . Sip ., worth , who , as acting I . P .. VL that evening , had rendered him such effective service , and to whose kindly offices he owed so much in the working of the ritual . Bro . Sapsworth having replied , the toast of "The Officers" terminated the proceedings . Bros . Page and Jehu rendered several vocal selections most effectively .

HIGHBRIDGE . Rural Philanthropic Lodge ( No . 291 ) . — On Friday evening , the Gth inst ., at a meeting of this lodge , held at the Masonic Rooms , Railway Hotel , a very handsome and valuable banner was formally presented to the lodge on behalf of Bro . senior P . M . and Ireasurer , seconded by the Dep . P . G . M ., Bro . R . C . Else , was agreed to with acclamation . The Secretary , Bro . T . Floyd Norris , P . M ., announced the completion of the publication of the history of the lodge , which had been compiled by himself , with an introduction by Bro . W . J . Hughan , P . G . D . England , and copies of it were distributed amongst the brethren . Bro . Else , D . P . G . M ., described the work as unique of its kind in the annals of Freemasonry , containing as it did a copy of the

tombstone of the founder of the lodge ( Bro . John Jennings ) , who died in 1805 , and a facsimile of the signatures of the original members of the lodge , which celebrated its centenary in May last . The thanks of the brethren were again tendered to Bro . Norris lor the zeal he had displayed and the labour he had bestowed in compiling so interesting a history ot the lodge . In due course a copy will probably reach this ollice for review , when we shall be able to speak of it at greater length .

PURFLEET . Tilbury Lodge ( No . 2006 ) . —The members of this lodge met on Saturday , the 14 th inst ., at the Royal Hotel , for the last time this season . The lodge having been opened , Bro . and Bros . Divey and Hack were elected members of the Permanent Committee . It was decided to have the lodge represented at the next Festival for the Girls' School , and liro .
