Bro . G . VV . Mitchell , P . M ., P . P . G . D . C , in proposing "The Health of the VV . M ., " said he failed to lind words to express the pleasure he felt in bring there that evening to listen to the impressive and masterly manner in vvhich the VV . M . had rendered the First and Third Degrees ; hc had never heard them to better advantage during the whole of his Masonic career . Bro . VV . H . Keeble , VV . M ., replied at some length , urging the practice of the true Masonic spirit , and the desire on his part to maintain the honour and reputation of thc St . John and St . Paul ' s Ledge , in conclusion , wishing the brethren "A happy and prosperous year . "

... The toast of " The Initiates " was replied to by Bro . David , expressive of pleasure for the honour conferred . Bro . Jones also responded in similar terms . Other toasts followed , including " The Officers , " which was responded to with feeling and ability by Bro . J . Turton , S . VV . The proceedings were interspersed with vocal ability , Bro . Bailey being an efficient accompanist .

The Tylei 's toast brought to a close one of the pleasantest evenings ever remembered by the brethren of the lodge .

After the lodge was closed , a banquet was held at the Old Hall Hotel . Unfortunately , the newly-installed VV . M ., being only just convalescent after a very severe illness , was nqt able to preside , but his place was filled by Uro . Brierley , to whom , during the evening , a Past Master ' s jewel , bearing a suitable inscription , was presented , in token of the great appreciation of the brethren of the lodge for his work and worth . Bro . McLeod , Sec . K . M . I , for Boys , made an eloquent statement of the position and prospects of that and the other Charitable Institutions connected with the Craft . Bros . G . H . Gregory , Dumville , and others added much to the harmony of a most successful meeting .

Kennington Lodge , No . 1381 . A very large gathering of members and visitors attended thc installation meeting o f this lodge on the 4 th instant , at the Horns Tavcrn , Kennington . The report of the Audit Committee was received and a-lojjted , and a Past Master's j wd presented to the I . P . M . It was proposed by the I . P . M ., and seconded by the VV . M . —" 'lhat an address be presented to V . W . Bro . George liverett , marking in suitable terms the affection and esteem of the brethren , and their appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the lodge during his long Treasurership ; that a

Ccmmiltce of six of the brethren be appointed to prepare and bring up the ad liess at the next meeting of the lodge ; that a sum of £ . 5 out of the funds of the lodge be granted towards the expenses of preparing such an address . " Uro . Captain Walls moved an amendment— " That £ 10 be substituted fur £ 5 , " whioh was seconded by Bro . II . Higgins , and carried unanimously . The Committee elected were Bros . C Colwell , Dr . Millsom , R . La Feuillade , J . N . Hearn , II . Higgins , T . C . Walls , C H . Kohler , W . W . Westley , and A . Lundie . It was also hinted that some other recognition would

be made of Bro . Everett ' s great services to the lodge as a founder and Treasurer . The lodge was then closed . The banquet was held in the large conceit hall of the tavern , and gave every satisfaction . Upon thc removal of the cloth , the customary toasts received full justice . In proposing " The Health of the W . M ., " the I . P . M . expressed a hope that the W . M . ' s year of office would be as prosperous as his own had been . In a large lod ge like the Kennington it was a difficult matter to please every one , but Bro . Colwell possessed tact and geniality , and no dou ' it would bo equal to any occasion .

The VV . M . having replied , gave "The Visitors , " and expressed a hope that their visit had been in every way a pleasant one . This toast was responded to by Bros . E . Attenborough , VV . M . 14 j T . Brown , P . M . 1597 , P . P . G . D . ; 11 . Keep , P . M . 14 ; and j . A . Davies , P . M . 2022 . In giving "The Past Masters " the VVorshipful Mister paid a high compliment to

the I . P . M ., who had discharged all the duties of his olh : e in an excellent way . He ( the W . M . ) felt very diffident in following so good a Mason . The Past Masters were a great power in No . 13 S 1 , and he wa ; gratified in seeing so many of them present that evening . He coupled the toast with the nam ; of Bro . Dr . Millsom , I . P . M ., but would like all of them to say a few words in response .

In compliance with the Worshiplul Master s desire the Past Masters respectivel y replied . The Worshipful Master then gave " The Masonic Charities . " In introducing this toast he said that as he represented the lodge as its Steward for the R . M . I , for Boys , he should have lilted the excellent Secretary of that Institution to have been present . However , Bro . McLeod was prevented at the last minute from atterdiner the lodge that evening to speak for the Charities , and in looking round among the Past Masters hc had come to the conclusion that Bro . Capt . Walls would be a good substitute for Bro . McLeod , and therefore he should couple his name with the toast .

The toast having been received with great warmth , was duly acknowledged by the brother mentioned . Thc next toa ^ t , "The Treasurer and Secretary , " gave the VVorshipful Master an opportunity of paying a tribute of respect to the late holders of these offices . Bros . G . Everett and VV . Stuart . He said that they all regretted that failing health had compelled both those worthy brethren to retire from the positions which they had so long and honourably filled . The first-namr-d brother ' s retirement was a severe blow to the lodge . However , the lodge had two excellent brethren to fill the vacancies , iti the persons of Bros . La Feuillade and Hearn .

Those brethren having replied , the toast of "The Officers" terminated the proceedings , which were throughout very successful . During the evening an excellent programme of music was carried out , under the management of Bro . VV . Wright , P . P . G . O . I he other artistes were Mesdames Phyllis Hope , Theresa Kellaway , Bros . R . Evans , O . Sharpley , Tom Davies , and Mr . Bert Hope . The " Elite Concert Party " gave unqualified satisfaction .

Friendly Lodge , No . 1513 . On Thursday , the Gth inst ., thc installation ceremony of thisl > dge was performed in the Masonic Hall , Barnsley , by Bro . W . R . Massie , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., when a large and representative gathering of brethren from various parts of tie province assembled . The minutes of the last regular lodge having been read and conlirmed , the lodge was opened by the retiring W . M . Bro . J . Spence Ingall , D . C , was presented for installation by Bros . J . VV . Gration , P . M ., P . P . G . Treas ., and S . C Alderson , P . M . The installa tion ceremony vvas then performed by Bro . VV . R . Massie , P . M . The newly-installed

M ., was elected to represent the lodg-: on the Provincial Charity Committee for the iG : h time . After " Hearty good wishes " the lodge was closed .

The visitors were invited to join the brethren in the dining-hall , where a sumptuous banquet was provided , the loyal and Masonic toasts being duly honoured . A very excellent musical programme was rendered by the brethren , under the able direction of Bro . A . Walker , Org ., and altogether a most successful and enjoyable evening was passed . The WoisViplul Master congratulated the loJgc on the appointment of three of the brethren to the First Commission of Peace for the Borough of Barnsley , namely , Bros . Guy , sen . j J . H . Gration , P . M . j and W . R . Massie , P . M .

Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 . The installation meeting of this well-known and successful City lodge was held at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , E . C , on Monday last . Present : Bros . J . was performed in a large Board of distinguished Installed Masters in excellent style . Hro . Captain T . C . Walls kindly officiated as D . C in his usual masterly manner . The new W . were rendered in a masterly manner by Bro . Sir J . B . Alonckton . The presentation o ! the Past Master ' s jewel was then made by the VV . M ., who remarked the very great pleasure it gave him to present it , as a mark of their esteem , and to show the high appreciation he was held in , and it was thc wish of every brother in the lodge that he might live many years to wear the same . The following is the inscription on the jewel" Presented to Bro . jas . Shotter , P . M , by the Aldersjjate Lodge , 1 G 37 , as a mark ol esteem , and in recognition ol the courteous manner in which he discharged the duties of VV . M . during Lis year ot office-, 1 S 95 . " In reply , Iiro . Jas . Shotter , I . P . M ., thanked

the VV . M . for his kind remarks , and the brct . iren for such a testimony of their goodwill . I hut splendid jewel he biped he should wear for very many years , as it would remind him of their great kindness to him . He wjuld take the present opportunity ot thanking most cordially the officers of the lodge who ha J so nobly supported him during the past year . Bro . Geo . Rawlinson , P . M ., a < a memento also to mark the happy year of office as I . P . M ., next presented the lodge with two beautiful gavels , one for the S . W . and the other fur the j . VV . ' s pedestal . The W . M ., on behalf ot the lodge , most heartily thanked Bro . Rawlinson for his very great kindness , as abo did the S . VV . Letters expressing regret for inability to attend were read from several brethren .

The business of the lodge ended , the brethren adjourned to a recherche banquet , which was mest highly appreciated . The cloth removed , the VV . M . gave the toast of " The Queen and the Craft" i " most loyal and sympathetic terms , remarking that the heart ? of hcr people , and par ' ticulary Masons , were moved towards her and her beloved daughter in their great bereavctnent .

The banquet was held in the large conceit hall of the tavern , and gave every satisfaction . Upon thc removal of the cloth , the customary toasts received full justice . In proposing " The Health of the W . M ., " the I . P . M . expressed a hope that the W . M . ' s year of office would be as prosperous as his own had been . In a large lod ge like the Kennington it was a difficult matter to please every one , but Bro . Colwell possessed tact and geniality , and no dou ' it would bo equal to any occasion .

The VV . M . having replied , gave "The Visitors , " and expressed a hope that their visit had been in every way a pleasant one . This toast was responded to by Bros . E . Attenborough , VV . M . 14 j T . Brown , P . M . 1597 , P . P . G . D . ; 11 . Keep , P . M . 14 ; and j . A . Davies , P . M . 2022 . In giving "The Past Masters " the VVorshipful Mister paid a high compliment to

the I . P . M ., who had discharged all the duties of his olh : e in an excellent way . He ( the W . M . ) felt very diffident in following so good a Mason . The Past Masters were a great power in No . 13 S 1 , and he wa ; gratified in seeing so many of them present that evening . He coupled the toast with the nam ; of Bro . Dr . Millsom , I . P . M ., but would like all of them to say a few words in response .

In compliance with the Worshiplul Master s desire the Past Masters respectivel y replied . The Worshipful Master then gave " The Masonic Charities . " In introducing this toast he said that as he represented the lodge as its Steward for the R . M . I , for Boys , he should have lilted the excellent Secretary of that Institution to have been present . However , Bro . McLeod was prevented at the last minute from atterdiner the lodge that evening to speak for the Charities , and in looking round among the Past Masters hc had come to the conclusion that Bro . Capt . Walls would be a good substitute for Bro . McLeod , and therefore he should couple his name with the toast .

The toast having been received with great warmth , was duly acknowledged by the brother mentioned . Thc next toa ^ t , "The Treasurer and Secretary , " gave the VVorshipful Master an opportunity of paying a tribute of respect to the late holders of these offices . Bros . G . Everett and VV . Stuart . He said that they all regretted that failing health had compelled both those worthy brethren to retire from the positions which they had so long and honourably filled . The first-namr-d brother ' s retirement was a severe blow to the lodge . However , the lodge had two excellent brethren to fill the vacancies , iti the persons of Bros . La Feuillade and Hearn .

Those brethren having replied , the toast of "The Officers" terminated the proceedings , which were throughout very successful . During the evening an excellent programme of music was carried out , under the management of Bro . VV . Wright , P . P . G . O . I he other artistes were Mesdames Phyllis Hope , Theresa Kellaway , Bros . R . Evans , O . Sharpley , Tom Davies , and Mr . Bert Hope . The " Elite Concert Party " gave unqualified satisfaction .

The visitors were invited to join the brethren in the dining-hall , where a sumptuous banquet was provided , the loyal and Masonic toasts being duly honoured . A very excellent musical programme was rendered by the brethren , under the able direction of Bro . A . Walker , Org ., and altogether a most successful and enjoyable evening was passed . Letters expressing regret for inability to attend were read from several brethren .

The business of the lodge ended , the brethren adjourned to a recherche banquet , which was mest highly appreciated . The cloth removed , the VV . M . gave the toast of " The Queen and the Craft" i " most loyal and sympathetic terms , remarking that the heart ? of hcr people , and par ' ticulary Masons , were moved towards her and her beloved daughter in their great bereavctnent .
