This conclave , the premier , now meets on the second Tuesday in November , March , and May ( installation ) , and numbers amongst its members many distinguished brethren . *

The new Orpheus Club held its first reception and concert in the galleries of the Royal Society of British Artists , Suffolk Street , Pall Mall , on Sunday evening last . The orchestra numbered some fifty performers , and there was a large and fashionable attendance .

The Theatres.

THE THEATRES .

We are not surprised that Bro . Tree has revived Mr . Comyn Carr ' s melodrama , " Called Back , " because it met with such a favourable reception some seven years ago at the Princes ' s Theatre , and it was in this play that Bro . Tree made one of his earliest hits which have

led him on and on to the road of fame . Judging by the enthusiastic reception " Called Back " has met with it bids fair to have a tolerabl y lengthy fresh lease of life . It deals with the love of a young Englishman for a girl who is mixed up in political conspiracies , and who , after seeing her brother foully murdered , loses her

reason . Her lover , who is temporarily blind , comes in , and stumbling across his sweetheart's body believes her to be murdered . In the end , on being confronted with her brother ' s assassin the girl suddenly from the shock recovers her senses , and the couple are united . Bro . Tree plays his original part , which is a most

picturesque one , in a masterl y manner . Not only has he not deteriorated , but if any change be noticeable it is that Bro . Tree plays even more strongly the character he created with such marked ingenuity in 1 S 84 . Miss Julia Neilson , who succeeds Miss Alice Lingard , gives a fine rendering of Pauline . We saw Miss Neilson

recently in " Comedy and Tragedy , " and noticed such decided progress in her acting that we anticipated her Pauline would be an ideal one . We have not been disappointed . Bro . Fernandez repeats his brilliant acting throughout , and is especiall y strong in his death scene . Mr . Fred Terry who follows Mr . Kyrle Bellow ,

has also of late made rapid strides towards perfection in his elocution , action , and posture . A more passionate and manly lover it would be hard to find , nor would woman want . Miss Horlock looks pleasing , but is still rather jerky in her speech . On Monday next , the 24 th instant , Bro . Tree gives , as the special evening

performance , Messrs . Henley and Stevenson ' s play , " Beau Austin , " which is a remarkably vivid representation of the manners , customs , and costumes of the beaux and belles of the beginning of this century . As it is not likely to be put in the regular bill , it behoves lovers of the play to see it now .

Obituary .

BRO . EDWARD TOZER . This brother died at his residence , Crab tree Lodge , at Pitsmoor , on the 10 th inst ., at the age of 70 years , after a long illness . Deceased was one of the partners of the firm of Steele , Peach , and Tozer ( Limited ) . He vvas first returned to the Sheffield Town Council in

1871 , and three years later he was elected an Alderman . He was appointed Master Cutler in 1875 , and re-elected in 18 7 6 . Bro . Tozer , Mr . Steele , and Mr . H . Hampton purchased the Phcenix Bessemer Works in the same year for ^ 35 , , and shortly afterwards the business was turned into that of a private limited

company , with a capital of £ 70 , 000 . Bro . Tozer was elected IVIayor of Sheffield in 18 79 , and in the same year hewasplacedontheSchool Board . During his Mayoralty he raised £ 1600 in aid of the Irish Distress Relief Fund . He laid the first stone of the Baslow Hydropathic Establishment in 1880 , and in 1881 he vvas

made a Justice of the Peace . He retired from the Council in the same year , and has taken little part in public matters since . He was initiated in the Britannia Lodge , No . 139 , in 18 77 , and vvas filling the chair of W . M . and that of S . G . W . of the province at the time of his death . He leaves a widow and five children . His remains were interred at the Ecclesall Cemetery .

Besides the relatives , the funeral vvas attended b y the representatives of the Borough Magistrates , the Freemasons , the Cutlers' Company , of which Bro . Tozer had been a member for many years ; the Yorkshire County Cricket Club , with which he was conconnected for over 30 years ; the Sheffield Deaf and Dumb Institution , All Saints' Church , and other bodies .

The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Princesses Victoria and Maud , attended the meet at Congham House , of the West Norfolk Hunt , on Saturday last , and received a hearty welcome . Unfortunately the coverts were all drawn blank , to the very great disappointment of the master and the field .
