The people in Finsbury Park , Stoke Newington , Stamford Hill , Tottenham , and thereabouts , had an exciting time for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon . One of Sanger ' s elephants , named " Jim , " and declared to be about 75 years of age . had been taken out for a walk by its keeuer , when near the Manor House , Finsbury Park , it became unmanageable , and breakingfrom its keeper , made its way

into the park , where it upset , or tore up iron fences , and charged the bandstand . Thence making its way into Blackstock-road , it walked into a stable and knocked down a man who had gone to protect a horse . Leaving this , it trotted along to the rear of the houses in Highbury New Park , where it upset a few brick walls , then walking through fences and garden walls , reached Clissold Park ,

and thence to the New River . Here it refreshed itself with a long drink , and proceeded towards Kingsland . At Lea Bridge it resented the attempt of a young man to stop'its progress by tapping him on the stomach with his trunk and sending him flying . It then made its way by the river

bank into the Upper Clapton Cricket Club ground , thence to Stamford Hill and Tottenham , and finally pulled up at Bruce-grove Station , where , after further exercises ,- it allowed its keeper to chain . its front legs , and walked quietly home . VVe imagine the proprietor will have a tolerably long bill to pay for dilapidations .

THK NEW DRURY LANE DRAMA . —llro . " A Life of Pleasure " vvas received last night ( Thursday ) by a crowded house vvith enthusiastic applause , in which both gallery and stall

holders j lined . The merits of the drama itself are of a high order , and the stage mounting , together . vvith the succession of realistic scenes , exhibited the highest triumph of stagecraft .
