M . of Sussex , from whose widow a very affecting letter was read in acknowledgment of a
vote of condolence passed at the last lodge meeting . It was resolved that the letter be entered on the minutes . A circular letter from Bros . Vergette and Clarabut , of Peterborough , appealing for contributions towards a fund now being raised by the Masons of England tar erecting a stall or stalls in the restored choir of Peterborough Cathedral was read , but it was not thought desirable
to devote any of the lodge funds to that purpose . There appeared , however , to be a feeling of sympathy towards the object aimed at , and Bro . H . Holding Moore , as an official ° f Chichester Cathedral , undertook to solicit small contributions from the brethren . A ballot was taken for Mr . Chas . P'assfield , and declared to be unanimous . He was initiated into Masonry by Bro . Hawes , I . P . M ., vvho also passed
wos . Caffyn and King to the Degree of Fellow J-faft . The Worshipful Master then took the opportunit y—the first he has had since his marriage—<* expressing his thanks for the wedding present given to ¦ "ni by the lodge—a silver cigarette box , vvhich he said ) w > uld _ be a valued as well as a useful gift . His lordship * en , in very affecting terms , alluded to the death of Bro . « •Molesworth , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., a brother vvho , during a Masonic career of 34 had done much real service to
years , Masonry , both in resuscitating the lodge , in working cease'essl y on behalf of the Charities , and in other vvork in the Province generally . He moved that an expression of the deep re gret of the brethren be recorded on the minutes , and that | J letter of condolence be sent by the Secretary to Mrs . Molesworth . Bro . A . A , Voodiwiss , P . M ., P . S . G . AV ., gave the toast of "The Visitors , " and said how glad the Arboretum brethren always vvere to see a good number amongst them , both
from the sister lodges and those from a distance . He was glad to see that the banner of reserve between the Tyrian , the mother lodge of the province , had been broken down , and that the VV . M ., Bro . J . H . Clarke , vvas likely to become a good visitor j and he could assure him by so doing he vvould induce others to come more often to the Tyrian . Graceful allusion vvas also made to Lodges S 02 , 1083 , and
1 495-The next toast was that of " The Past Masters , " given by the W . M ., and responded to by Bro . AV . Whittaker , P . M ., Treas ., and T . Rose , M . P ., P . M . "The Health of the Officers" was proposed by Bro . J . Bland , P . M ., vvho reminded the brethren of the importance of regular attendance at the lodge of instruction , of vvhich
he had so recently been appointed Preceptor . Bro . Brigg , I . P . M ., and Bro . J . Walker , S . W ., responded . The Tyler ' s toast shortly after brought a very enjoyable gathering to a close . The proposition was unanimously approved , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . The ' Deputy Prov . Grand Master expressed his admiration of the work he had witnessed , and complimented the Worshipful Master and the lodge on the numerous attendance .
The banquet was held subsequently under the presidency of the W . Master , Bro . Pick , who was supported by the D . P . G . M ., Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn , P . G . Chap . Eng ., Bro . Boby , P . G . S . B . Eng ., and about 60 other brethren . The menu vvas an exceedingly interesting production . It
contained a splendid cabinet-sized photograph of the VV . M . in full Masonic clothing , and smaller portraits of the whole of the new officers . The names of the officers were also set out , and to each an appropriate Shakespearian quotation was allotted . The photographs were from the studio of the I . P . M ., Bro . general " get up' of the card Bro . W . B . Hanson is entitled to credit ; and the catering , not the least important portion of the work , was most satisfactorily carried out by Bro . J . Hardwick , of the Queen-street Restaurant . The W . M . proposed " The Oueen and the Craft , " " The M . W . the Grand Master , " and "The M . W . the Pro Grand Master and the Officers of the Grand Lodge , " for whom
Bro . VV . Boby responded . He briefly alluded to the inquiry which was made into the administration of the Boys' School , and expressed the hope that nothing which had transpired would induce any brother to withhold his support and sympathy from the Institution .
Bro . VV . B . Hanson proposed "The Prov . Grand Master , Lord Henniker , the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn responded in a humorous and entertaining speech . Bro . Townsend replied for the Past , and Bro . Trew for the Present Officers .
Bro . John AVhite , in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " said ever since Bro . Pick joined the lodge he had done everything in his power to promote its success , and had filled the various offices to which he had been appointed with the greatest courtesy and zeal , and to the entire satisfaction of the Masters under whom he had served . Now that he had been elevated to the proud position of Master
of the lodge , he felt confident that the brethren would show their appreciation of his worth by supporting him most heartily and loyally , and by doing all they possibly could to make his year of office a most complete success . The Worshipful Master , who was received with loud applause , expressed the hope that the brethren of the lodge would rally round him , and promised that he would do
everything he could to conduct the work of the lodge in an efficient manner . Before sitting down he proposed in complimentary terms " The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Brown , " who vvas an indispensable member of the Iodge . Bro . Brown responded , and proposed "The Health of
the I . P . M ., Bro . White . " Bro . White responded in felicitous terms . The other toasts were " The Visitors , " proposed by the W . M ., and acknowledged by the Masters of the lodges represented and other brethren ; " The Masonic Charities , " proposed by Bro . A . A . Bennett , and responded to by Bro . N . Tracy j " The Officers of the Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s
toast . The toasts were interspersed with songs and recitations by various brethren .

Prudence Lodge ( No . 2069 ) . —In the presence of about 70 brethren , representing the leading members of Provincial Grand Lodge , the Leeds lodges , and visitors from neighbouring towns , the installation meeting of the above lodge vvas held in the Masonic Hall , Great George-street , on the 9 th inst . The Iodge having been opened , the minutes were duly adopted , and then Bro . C . Middleton was presented by Bro . Trevor for the benefit of installation . Previous to the opening of the Board of Installed Masters , the VV . M ., Bro . Watson , returned thanks to the brethren for their kind and courteous treatment of him during the time he had ruled over the lodge . Especially vvere his acknowledgments due
to the Past Masters , vvho had been such a support to him during the past year . There had not been the slightest appearance of discord and , that being the case , he would be wrong if he laid down the reins without thanking all . They had supported him nobly , and he had done his best to deserve their support . He also warmly thanked the officers , singling out for special commendation Bros . Trevor , D . C , and Tom Atkinson , the Secretary . The last-named brother
had been exceedingly active and zealous , and his duties had been performed in a way that vvas beyond all praise . He had thought no labour too great to carry out his vvork in a satisfactory manner , and the Iodge had been the gainer thereby . Bro . Trevor , too , had been a tower of strength . A Board of Installed Masters was then formed , and the ceremony of installation completed , it being taken part in by Bros . Watson , Dr . Smyth , C . L . Mason , Craig , and Trevor . i

M ., the Provincial Charity Member , reported that during the year the brethren had endowed two chairs to the amount of 20 guineas . During the past four years that lod ge had sent up to our great Institutions a total of 420 guineas , which all must admit was a noble
result . He never pressed for contributions , believing that all Masonic Charity should be voluntary , and the result had shown the wisdom of that course . He earnestly appealed for future support , and said his position as their Charity member had always been a proud and happy one . On the motion of Bro . Dr . Symth , seconded by Bro . Tudor Trevor , Bro . Watson vvas unanimously re-elected Charity member
for the ensuing year . Bros . Trevor and Fretwell , S . W ., were unanimously elected to represent the lodge on the local Charity Committee . The VV . M ., Bro . Charles Middleton , then , on behalf of the brethren of the lodge , presented to Bro . Watson a handsome gold Past Master ' s
jewel of the lodge pattern , and bearing the word " Founder " on a special bar , Bro . Watson being one of the founders . In making the presentation , the VV . M . expressed the pleasure it gave him at being the vehicle through which the lodge presented that mark of esteem . The year that bad just closed had been a very happy one , and he hoped they vvould always be able to keep up the harmony

Hardwick , of the Queen-street Restaurant . The W . M . proposed " The Oueen and the Craft , " " The M . W . the Grand Master , " and "The M . W . the Pro Grand Master and the Officers of the Grand Lodge , " for whom
Bro . VV . Boby responded . He briefly alluded to the inquiry which was made into the administration of the Boys' School , and expressed the hope that nothing which had transpired would induce any brother to withhold his support and sympathy from the Institution .
Bro . VV . B . Hanson proposed "The Prov . Grand Master , Lord Henniker , the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn responded in a humorous and entertaining speech . Bro . Townsend replied for the Past , and Bro . Trew for the Present Officers .
Bro . John AVhite , in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " said ever since Bro . Pick joined the lodge he had done everything in his power to promote its success , and had filled the various offices to which he had been appointed with the greatest courtesy and zeal , and to the entire satisfaction of the Masters under whom he had served . Now that he had been elevated to the proud position of Master
of the lodge , he felt confident that the brethren would show their appreciation of his worth by supporting him most heartily and loyally , and by doing all they possibly could to make his year of office a most complete success . The Worshipful Master , who was received with loud applause , expressed the hope that the brethren of the lodge would rally round him , and promised that he would do
everything he could to conduct the work of the lodge in an efficient manner . Before sitting down he proposed in complimentary terms " The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Brown , " who vvas an indispensable member of the Iodge . Bro . Brown responded , and proposed "The Health of
the I . P . M ., Bro . White . " Bro . White responded in felicitous terms . The other toasts were " The Visitors , " proposed by the W . The Iodge having been opened , the minutes were duly adopted , and then Bro . C . Middleton was presented by Bro . Trevor for the benefit of installation . Previous to the opening of the Board of Installed Masters , the VV . M ., Bro . Watson , returned thanks to the brethren for their kind and courteous treatment of him during the time he had ruled over the lodge . Especially vvere his acknowledgments due
to the Past Masters , vvho had been such a support to him during the past year . There had not been the slightest appearance of discord and , that being the case , he would be wrong if he laid down the reins without thanking all . They had supported him nobly , and he had done his best to deserve their support . He also warmly thanked the officers , singling out for special commendation Bros . Trevor , D . C , and Tom Atkinson , the Secretary . The last-named brother
had been exceedingly active and zealous , and his duties had been performed in a way that vvas beyond all praise . He had thought no labour too great to carry out his vvork in a satisfactory manner , and the Iodge had been the gainer thereby . Bro . Trevor , too , had been a tower of strength . result . He never pressed for contributions , believing that all Masonic Charity should be voluntary , and the result had shown the wisdom of that course . He earnestly appealed for future support , and said his position as their Charity member had always been a proud and happy one . On the motion of Bro . Dr . Symth , seconded by Bro . Tudor Trevor , Bro . Watson vvas unanimously re-elected Charity member
for the ensuing year . Bros . Trevor and Fretwell , S . W ., were unanimously elected to represent the lodge on the local Charity Committee . The VV . M ., Bro . Charles Middleton , then , on behalf of the brethren of the lodge , presented to Bro . Watson a handsome gold Past Master ' s
jewel of the lodge pattern , and bearing the word " Founder " on a special bar , Bro . Watson being one of the founders . In making the presentation , the VV . M . expressed the pleasure it gave him at being the vehicle through which the lodge presented that mark of esteem . The year that bad just closed had been a very happy one , and he hoped they vvould always be able to keep up the harmony
