The ceremony of installation was most effectively and impressively performed by Bro . A . C . Quick , P . M ., in the unavoidable absence of the I . P . M ., who was prevented from being present through a sad domestic bereavement , assisted

by the retiring W . M . The W . M . appointed and invested the following as his officers : Bros . R . B . Rowcliffe , S . W . ; P . J . Benett , J . VV . ; A . C . Quick , P . and C . Mellish , Stwds . ; and E . Biddiscombe , Tyler . Bro . J . B . Nicholls presented the report of the Treasurer ' s accounts , which showed the lodge to be in a thoroughly prosperous condition . Two candidates were then proposed for initiation . The W . M . thus begins his year of office under most favourable auspices , which we hope will continue to the end .

The business of the evening being ended , the lodge was closed , and the brethren , in company with their guests , then repaired to the banqueting-room , which , with warm hearts and willing hands , had , as usual , been tastefully decorated by the officers of the lodge , the whole producing a most charming effect , which certainly did them credit . Here a most sumptuous repast awaited them .

The loyal toasts were received with musical honours by the asembled brethren . Then followed several Masonic toasts , viz . : "The Grand Lodge of Fngland . " "The Worshipful Master , " "The I . P . M . and Installing Master , " "The Visitors , " and " The Past Masters , " the intervals between the toasts being enlivened by singing , & c . ; but as the best of friends

must part , so must Masons , the brethren therefore drank the last toast , one and all declaring they had never enjoyed themselves better , and with many an expressed wish that good old Mariners might exist to attain another centenary , indeed , one brother vvas boldenough to hope that he might live to assist at its celebration . So came to an end one of the most enjoyable and harmonious of meetings ever remembered in the lodge .

In proposing the toast of " 'The W . M ., " the acting I . P . M . said that , as one of the oldest initiates in the lodge , it afforded him great pleasure to propose the health of Bro . Scholding , who vvas also an initiate of No . 1512 , and who had been installed that day in the chair by him . 'They had seen how well the VV . M . had initiated the candidate that

evening , and he believed that he was also capable of performing the other ceremonies equally as well . The Wors-liipful Master , in reply , said that he vvas particularly gratified in being placed in the chair that evening by one of his oldest friends . He ( the VV . M . ) had not been many years in the lodge , and therefore he was fortunate in

Provincial Meetings.

being so soon elected to the chair . They had lost many members by death and resignation through adverse circumstances , but the lodge was still a very strong one , and , as they had heard that evening , financially prosperous . He hoped to do his duty entirely to their satisfaction , and to ' eave the chair with the same amount of respect as the I . P . M . had received , and whose absence , through a severe

domestic affliction , thev all deplored . "The Installing Officer " followed . In giving the toast the VV . M . paid a high compliment to the services of Bro . Ransford . Bros . Pritchard , J . N . Frye , Harvey , and Thorn replied to the toast of " The Visitors . " In their respective speeches

they more or less eulogised the lodge , its working-, and its hospitality . The remaining toasts , in consequence of the lateness of the hour , were quickly disposed of . During the evening Bros . J . Ruffle , J . N . Frye , Gammon , and others instrumentally and vocally amused the brethren .

M . ) had not been many years in the lodge , and therefore he was fortunate in

being so soon elected to the chair .
