could for it . He ought to feel contented , as the brethren were satisfied with him . Still , he fancied he had his feelings , as every man had . People were not always in the same favourable state of health , and the performance of their duties frequently suffered on that account . _ But he did what he could towards upholding the reputation of the London Rifle Brigade Lodge , and caused it to be looked up

to in Masonry . It vvas only io years old , and yet it had done a great deal . His predecessors in the chair had effected much , and he had tried to emulate their example . Now that he had passed the chair , he would be only too pleased to go on working for the lodge , and assisting in any way the junior officers who might require it . He should look with pride on the Past Master ' s jewel they had kindly

voted to him , as it was a cementing of many friendships formed before he vvas a Mason . There were friendships which had been cemented in the lodge , some of them of 30 years , others of 20 years' standing . Bro . Cook , of Tokio , replying to the toast of "The Visitors , " said he supposed he vvas the only brother in the room who had come from so long a distance . He had

been invited to that hospitable lodge , and he considered it a very great favour , not only because it gave him a chance of seeing how the lodges were worked in England , but also of assisting in the installation of Bro . Geen . About this time last year he assisted in such a ceremony with a member of Bro . Geen's family in Kobe . On behalf of the brethren in Japan and district , and of the Lodge of the

Rising Sun at Kobe , of which he was 1 reasurer , he returned the Master and brethren of the London Rifle Brigade Lodge his best thanks . If any of the brethren should happen at any time to be out there he might not perhaps be able to give them such a grand banquet as they had just partaken of , but they would receive the right hand of fellowship and a hearty welcome . He wished all the brethren a happy and prosperous New Year .

Bros . Covvell , Beddall , Dehane , Carpmael , and Kirby also replied . Bros . Neville Green and Tilt replied to the toast of "The P . M . ' s , " and Bros . McDowall and Ciaridge to that of " The Treasurer and Secretary . " The W . M . made a forcible appeal on behalf of the Charities , and subsequently gave the toast of "The Officers . "

This vvas responded to by the Senior and Junior Wardens , and Bro . Lackland having given the Tyler's toast , the proceedings terminated . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .

reviewed the early history of the lodge and its subsequent prosperity , and regretfully alluded to the many worthy brethren who had assisted at its consecration , and who had now passed away to the majority . He concluded a very eloquent and impressive speech bv hooinsr that when he

Bro . VVheeler bore eloquent testimony to his services to the lodge and Masonry in general . He at the same time presented two handsome portraits of Bros . Mursell and Faulkner to those brethren , which had been voted by the lodge . ' The toast and presentations were duly acknowledged . "The Masonic Charities" was proposed by the VV . M .,

and responded to by Bros . Faulkner and Wheeler , and nearly £ 10 was announced as collected for the Charities . The visiting brethren were welcomed in a toast by the VV . M ., the compliment being acknowledged by the visitors present . "The I . P . M . and Installing Master" vvas proposed by Bro . Airs , and acknowledged by Bros . Wheeler and Faulkner .

Other toasts were " 1 he Secretary and Past Masters , " proposed by the W . M ., and replied to by Bros . Airs , Leftvvich , and Rutland ; "The Officers ofthe Lodge , " proposed by the W . M ., and acknowledged by those present ; and the Tyler ' s toast . The enjoyment of the evening was much enhanced by a
