that he congratulated Comp . Williams on his excellent work , and on the success that had attended him during his tenure of office , he having had no less than eight or nine exaltees , showing that he had his friends around him both at home and in the chapter , and expatiated on his excellent work both as a friend and Mason . The M . E . Z ., in reply , said he appeared in a

newcharacter . He was not aware that he was endued with such virtues and qualifications that had been imputed to him by their I . P . Z ., but he had always worked with a will , and was glad he had been the means of bringing together good men and true , and hoped Comp . March would have as good a year of office , and he should be only too delighted at the end of his year to say of him what had been said of

himself , and he hoped the officers would serve him as faithfully as they had hitherto done . Comp . March expressed his thanks , and promised to do his best to emulate Comp . Williams . The M . E . Z . said without the presence of visitors the Westbourne Chapter would be strange , and congratulated Comp . Heath upon the high distinction and honour that

had just been conferred on him , namely , a Lieutenancy and command of the North London Volunteer Brigade Supply Corps , and trusted that the discharge of the duties attached to the appointments would in no way prevent him continuing his progress in Royal Arch Masonry , and hoped he with the other companions of the Westbourne Chapter would rally round Comp . Dehane , their other esteemed visitor , at

the Hornsey Chapter of Improvement , where he would , he was certain , do all he could to help them to perfect themselves in the beautiful ceremony and ritual of theDegree . Comps . Dehane and Heath acknowledged the compliments paid to them in suitable terms . The M . E . Z . said it had given him great pleasure to exalt Comps . Thomas and Lines that evening , and felt sure

they would never regret it . Comp . Lines vvas very pleased to have been exalted , and would do his utmost to be a credit to Royal Arch Masonry . The M . E . Z ., in giving "The P . Z . 's , " complimented them on their good work during the time they were in office . Comp . Lamer responded .

Comp . Cottebrune , in responding for "The Treasurer and S . E ., " said it gave him great pleasure to do so , and thought the M . E . Z . had been a little too free in expatiating on him as Treasurer . He certainly must say that as their Treasurer for so many years he had always endeavoured to do justice to all . He then recounted the history of the chapter in its earlier days , and compared it with the present time—fully established , good officers and workers , and in a solvent

condition . The S . E . also responded , stating there were no arrears . Formerly it vvas not so ; in fact , a complete new leaf had been turned over , owing doubtless to the exertions of a good M . E . Z . and officers . The Janitor's toast followed . The evening was enlivened by harmony , in which Comps . Hatt , Hayden , and Davison took part .

George ' s Lodge and the Lodge of Union , No . 444 , were duly exalted to the Supreme Degree of a Royal Arch Mason . Comp . Bullock

did his work as P . S . Comp . Richard Eve , the Treasurer of the chapter , undertook to represent the chapter as Steward at the Festival of the Boys' School . At the banquet afterwards , the M . E . Z . proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , and , in proposing that of "The Exaltees , " said that the Orpheus Chapter might consider that that was a red-letter day in its history , as it

was rarely that a chapter could boast of having three such important exaltees as had fallen to their lot at that meeting . He remarked that Sir Somers Vine had been known to him for the past 20 years . He had only recently returned from the dangers and hardships of an important mission to our Colonies on behalf of Imperial interests , which had been entrusted to him by the M . E . G . Z . The M . E . Z . also said a few appropriate words with regard to Comps . Fraser and

Hebb . Comp . Sir Somers Vine , in replying , said that he had much pleasure in joining the Orpheus Chapter , which contained many of his old friends , and which had at its head a companion whom he had known for so many years . He was particularly grateful to Comps . Eve and Ganz for having : introduced him to the chapter . Remarking upon his recent

journey to the Colonies , he said it had fallen to the lot of few men to have seen so much of the British Dominions as he had done , for , with the exception of a few unimportant islands , he might say that he ihad visited every British possession upon which the sun shines , and he was particularly struck with the power of Masonry in those Colonies , and the extent to which it had spread even in the most outlying districts . When at Kimberley he was invited , as a

member of Grand Lodge , to attend a special convocation , at which there were present no less than 300 Masons , some of them having travelled 1 So miles on horseback to be in attendance , and he found wherever he went that Masons were the most loyal of her Majesty's subjects , and he considered their influence vvas of considerable importance in consolidating the unity and integrity of the empire . He also gave some further interesting Masonic reminiscences of his recent travels .

Comp . P . P . Fraser said he could endorse every word that had fallen from the lips of Comp . Sir Somers Vine , especially with regard to the loyalty of Masons in the Colonies to the Mother Country . Comp . 11 . A . Hebb , in replying , said that although his experience was not such as to enable him to speak as the two previous speakers had done of the influence of Masonry ,

he looked upon himself as having charge , to some extent , of the future of Masonry in training so many of the sons of Masons at the Boys' School . The other usual toasts followed , and a most enjoyable evening vvas spent , which was enlivened by some very excellent glees , under the direction of Comp . Burry , Comp . Ganz contributing a solo on the piano , and Comp . Barrett , a visitor , kindly giving a flute solo .

their mark of esteem , especially it being done in such a kind manner and with such words of brotherly love and good wishes , He could assure them he always would be willing to help the Joppa Lodge or its members in any way , and he trusted the lodge would prosper exceedingly under his Preceptorship , and become one of the largest lodges in the City of London , and that when he wore the apron in the Israel Lodge
