the chair , the work being performed by the two brethren in a most admirable manner , not forgetting the appointment and investiture of officers and the charges . On rising for the second time , the W . M . for the ensuing

week was elected , and appointed his officers in rotation . On rising for the third time , the following brethren vvere unanimously elected as Auditors to audit the accounts of the past year : Bros . G . H . Foan , C . O . Burgess , and E . J . D . Bromley . Bro . Greenway , Deputy Preceptor , proposed that a hearty and cordial vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to Bro . S . Hewett , W . M . of the

mother lodge , for his excellent rendering of the ceremony of installation . It was a credit to any brother . For many years past it had been the practice of the W . M . of the pother lodge to rehearse the ceremony of installation previous to the installation meeting of the lodge , and this vvas another fresh proof of the thorough good feeling between me mother lodge and the lodge of instruction . He wished the new Master ( Bro . G . H . Reynolds ) a happy year of office . Seconded by the J . D . and carried unanimously .

, '' ro . S . Hewett made a suitable reply , and said he thanked the brethren sincerely for their attendance that evening and the opportunity given him of rehearsing the ceremony of installation . It had been of great service to him . Bro . G . B . Reynolds also thanked the brethren , remarking that "i investing his officers it had always given him capital practice , which he hoped would not be forgotten . Nothing further offering for the good of Freemasonry , the lodge was closed .

A Past Commander s jewel was presented to the I . P . E . C , and a vote of thanks passed to him for his services as Installing Officer . The resignation of Sir Knight W . Paas , who had been a member of the encampment since 1 S 62 , was received with great regret , and he was unanimously elected an honorary member . The report of the Audit Committee was received and adopted .

Letters apologising for non-attendance , chiefly through illness , were received from Sir Knights Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , G . S . P . j E . Letchworth , E . Richardson , Major G . Lambert , W . Paas , J . B . Glenn , J . H . Thomas , and others . The encampment was then closed , and the sir knights adjourned to an excellent banquet . The customary loyal and Templar toasts were duly

proposed and honoured . Sir Knight F . Philbrick , G . C , responded in a speech of great point and humour to " The Health of the Officers of Great Priory . " Sir Knight Dr . Lott acknowledged the toast of "The Visitors , " and during the evening kindly gave several pianoforte selections . The proceedings terminated at an early hour . The jewel was manufactured by Sir Knt . George Kenning .

Premier Conclave . —This old and distinguished conclave met at Mark Masons' Hall , Great Oueen-street , on the 5 th inst . Among those present vvere Sir Knights Heard , M . P . S . ; N . Prower , M . A ., V . E . ; C . Keyser , G . S ., S . G . ; Purrott , J . G . ; Roiinson , H . P . ; T . Cubitt , P . G . G ., Treas . ; Pakes , Prefect ; Scurrah , H . ; L . Steele , S . S . ; W . Lake , I . P . M . P . S . ; H . H . Shirley , M . A ., G . S ., P . M . P . S . ; Capt . T . C . Walls ,

installed a member of that high grade . 'The principal work vvas carried out by Sir Knights Shirley and Lardner , and left nothing to be desired . The proceedings terminated by the conferring of the Degree of St . John the Evangelist upon the aforesaid candidate . Among the apologies received for non-attendance were communications from Sir Knights John Mason , P . G . J . G . ; George Kenning , C . F . Matier , and G . Graveley .

'The sir knights then adjourned to the banquet , which vvas held at Freemasons' Hall . The customary toasts vvere duly honoured . 'The M . P . S ., in giving the various toasts , vvas most eloquent and original in his remarks . In proposing "The Past Sovereigns , " he paid a deservedly high compliment to the excellent services rendered to the Red Cross Order by Sir Knights Shirley and Lardner , whose knowledge and execution of its various rituals could not be too much

extolled . "The Health of the old and valued Treasurer , Sir Knight T . Cubitt , " vvas also warmly received , and he , in his reply , regretted the absence , through indisposition , of his colleague in office , Sir Knight J . Mason . The meeting , which vvas in every way successful , terminated at an early hour .

Bro . Lord Leigh , after accompanying his daughter , the Countess of Jersey , as far as Paris , on her journey to New South Wales , returned to London on Friday , the 16 th inst . The Duke of Connaught as Colonel-in-Chief of the Rifle Brigade , presented to the Oueen , on Saturday last , Colonel Boyle , commanding the ith battalion , Lieut .-Col . Howard , Major Howard , and Lieut . Mackenzie , who tendered for Her Majesty ' s acceptance a large bronze bell , taken near Mandalay , in Upper Burmah ,

M . of the pother lodge to rehearse the ceremony of installation previous to the installation meeting of the lodge , and this vvas another fresh proof of the thorough good feeling between me mother lodge and the lodge of instruction . He wished the new Master ( Bro . G . H . Reynolds ) a happy year of office . Seconded by the J . D . and carried unanimously .

The proceedings terminated by the conferring of the Degree of St . John the Evangelist upon the aforesaid candidate . 'The sir knights then adjourned to the banquet , which vvas held at Freemasons' Hall . The customary toasts vvere duly honoured . 'The M . P . S ., in giving the various toasts , vvas most eloquent and original in his remarks . In proposing "The Past Sovereigns , " he paid a deservedly high compliment to the excellent services rendered to the Red Cross Order by Sir Knights Shirley and Lardner , whose knowledge and execution of its various rituals could not be too much

extolled . "The Health of the old and valued Treasurer , Sir Knight T . Cubitt , " vvas also warmly received , and he , in his reply , regretted the absence , through indisposition , of his colleague in office , Sir Knight J . Mason . The meeting , which vvas in every way successful , terminated at an early hour .

Bro . Lord Leigh , after accompanying his daughter , the Countess of Jersey , as far as Paris , on her journey to New South Wales , returned to London on Friday , the 16 th inst . The Duke of Connaught as Colonel-in-Chief of the Rifle Brigade , presented to the Oueen , on Saturday last , Colonel Boyle , commanding the ith battalion , Lieut .-Col .
