By the departure of Lord Connemara from Madras " local " Freemasonry loses its head , his lordship being the District Grand Master of Craft Masonry in Madras . As the leading " light " of Madras Masonry , his lordship has been of distinguished service to most of the "lodges" in the Presidency , which are supposed to be in a"flourishing " state in consequence . This is particularly displayed in the

number of " new members who have joined the Society during the last two years , which increase is generally attributed to the avidity with which the example of the illustrious chief of the local branches of the Brotherhood has been noted and followed .

Masonry , as practised in Southern India , suffers a loss on the resignation of Lord Connemara , and it is with much interest that the selection of a worthy successor will be watched . —Madras Times .
