. Bro . the Earl of Carnarvon , Pro G . M ., on his recent visit to America and Canada , paid the usual penalty of possessing a distinguished reputation by ( having an unsought-for interview with one of those pertinacious " outcomes " of American " progress , "—a member of the "interviewing staff" of a New York newspaper , with a
request that he would furnish details concerning the emigration of Welsh quarry men to the Rocky Mountains , explaining that from his title and the circumstance that certain Welsh quarries are known as the " Carnarvonshire Quarries" it was generally supposed that he must be interested in the Welsh Rock y Mountain scheme . The reply that the coincidence was " purely accidental , " and that his lordship knew nothing
about the matter beyond what the newspapers had told him , does not appear to have at once removed all doubt of his connection with the Principality , since the reporter responded with the searching question , "On your trip to yuebec , was not the secretary of the Welsh Quarrymen ' s Union a passenger on the steamship with you ? " Finally , Lord Carnarvon's assurance that this also was a mere
coincidence , that he had only come to America with the Countess for " a little recreation , " and that he positively " could not tell how many quarries there are in Wales , the number of people employed , or anything about their condition , " seems to have convinced his pertinacious questioner that a title derived from a Welsh county does not necessarily imply either Welsh nationality or the possession of Welsh quarries .

A singular circumstance was met with in the endeavour by Bro . VVarren C . Rowley to secure portraits of all the W . The election will be by ballot , and the names of the several brethren intended to be put in nomination must be delivered
m writing to the Provincial Grand Secretary ten days previous to the meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge . The appointment and investiture of provincial grand officers for the present year ; the election of five Past Masters as members of the Hamer Benevolent Fund ; the court of governors of the West Lancashire Masonic Institution ; and the consideration of the amendments to the bye-laws of the West Lancashire Masonic Institution , are the other
leading items on the agenda paper . The banquet will be held at four o ' clock the Corn Exchange . The / Eolus Patent Downcast Ventilator and Waterproof shaft is another of the admirable inventions of the / Eolus Waterspray and General Ventilating Company , Limited , 235 High Holborn , VV . C , which merits some description . It consists of a triple-headed downcast cowl , the three heads being set back to back , and of a shaft
descending from the same . In this shaft is fixed a deflecting plate , which shoots off any water that may enter the head to the opposite side of the . shaft , at the point where it forms a syphon bend , the bottom of which is a hollowed basin revolving on an axle with counterpoise attached . The water having lodged in sufficient quantity in the bend to overpower the counterpoise opens the basin , which , having discharged the water , returns to its original position ,
The merit of this contrivance is that it occupies far less space than the ordinary double bends , while at the same time it admits the full volume of air . The ordinary downcast ventilator excludes not only the water but the wind likewise . The prices are moderate , ranging Irom 15 s . for 2 i-inch patent downcast ventilator , with a 2-inch patent waterproof downcast shaft and valve , to £ 17 ios . for a 24-in . ventilator , with a 24-in . shaft and valve .

A singular circumstance was met with in the endeavour by Bro . VVarren C . Rowley to secure portraits of all the W . Ms , than of those who have passed to the Grand Lodge Above . lhe London Music Publishing and General Agency Company ( Limited ) , which has now been started some time for the purpose of facilitating the publication of meritorious works by young and unknown musicians , having been most successful in a number of ventures in the different branches of this art , and also originators of the ten-guinea pianoforte for students . have now , in addition to their cheap and unrivalled pianofortes , taken over the stock of

Lathom , D . G . M . and R . W . Prov . G . M .
