visitor . Many of the members were unfortunately unable to attend owing to serious indisposition , amongst the regretted absentees being Comps . W . J . Nicholls , AI . E . Z ^ ; J . W . Lambert , P . Z ., Treas . j and A . Gravatt , Asst . Soj . Comp . J . Glass having very kindly offered to represent the chapter at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic

Institution for Boys , the sum of five guineas was placed on his list from the Charity Fund of the chapter . Comp . R . ATotion called attention to a circular which had been issued by the Provisional Management Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys asking for subscriptions to the Pension Indemnity Fund , with the view of raising a sum of vf ^ oo in lieu of granting a pension to Bro . Frederick

Binckes , the object of which is to relieve altogether the Institution from any charge on its funds , and at the same time to recognise the very valuable services of Bro . Binckes and provide some means for his honourable retirement from the office of Secretary after upwards of 28 years ' service , and he moved that the sum of £ 2 ios . be voted

from the general funds of the chapter towards that purpose . 'This having been seconded by Comp . Gartley , the acting AI . E . Z ., was carried unanimously . The chapter having been closed , the companions partook of a banquet , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

MANCHESTER . Trafford Chapter No . 1496 ) . —The installation meeting of this chapter was held on Wednesday , the 15 th inst ., at the Western Hotel , Aloss Side , when there were present Comps . members of the chapter therefore wore emblems of mourning . A balance sheet of a very satisfactory character was presented and passed . Comp . Hunt then undertook the duties of Installing Principal , and , assisted by the P . Z . ' s present , duly installed Comps . Gillman , Biggs , and Maybury , as First , Second , and Third Principals respectively . The other officers of the chapter were invested as follows :

moved that a vote of condolence be passed with their relatives . Comp . Burslem seconded the resolution , which was supported by Comps . Walter Biggs , H ., and G . Hunt , P . Z ., Treas ., and carried nem . dis . After the transaction of some further business , the chapter was closed , the Organist playing the " Dead March " from Saul .

The companions partook of an excellent repast , provided by the host . . Subsequently , "The Health of the Newly-Installed First Principal " was proposed in felicitous terms by the I . P . Z ., Comp . Burslem . He referred to the valuable services rendered them by Comp . Gillman— "the father of the chapter "—and to the fact that he was now installed in the

chair of M . E . Z . for the third time . He expressed the hope that the M . E . Z . might longbe spared to give counsel and advice to the members of the chapter . The toast was honoured with much enthusiasm , and Comp . Gillman , in eloquent terms , returned thanks . He had watched with great gratification the progress made by - the chapter , and he trusted that it would continue to increase and flourish .

In proposing " The Health of the Immediate M . E . Z ., Comp . Burslem , " the I . P . Z . paid a well deserved tribute to the perfect manner in which he had conducted the working of the chapter . Comp . Burslem , who , it may be stated , has occupied the First Principal's chair two years in succession , responded .

The toasts of "The Second and Third . Principals , " "The Visitors" —responded to by Comp . Barker— "The Newly-Invested Officers , " & c , were given and responded to , and the companions , in silence , drank to the memory of their two late colleagues , whose untimely deaths they deplored .

Forge , Sec , was elected-to represent the lodge at the forthcoming Festival of the Royal Alasonic Institution for Girls , and a sum of six guineas placed on his list from the lodge funds . A vote of money was also granted to thc widow of a brother recently deceased .

ATotion called attention to a circular which had been issued by the Provisional Management Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys asking for subscriptions to the Pension Indemnity Fund , with the view of raising a sum of vf ^ oo in lieu of granting a pension to Bro . Frederick

Binckes , the object of which is to relieve altogether the Institution from any charge on its funds , and at the same time to recognise the very valuable services of Bro . Binckes and provide some means for his honourable retirement from the office of Secretary after upwards of 28 years ' service , and he moved that the sum of £ 2 ios . be voted

from the general funds of the chapter towards that purpose . 'This having been seconded by Comp . Gartley , the acting AI . E . Z ., was carried unanimously . The chapter having been closed , the companions partook of a banquet , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

The companions partook of an excellent repast , provided by the host . . Subsequently , "The Health of the Newly-Installed First Principal " was proposed in felicitous terms by the I . P . Z ., Comp . Burslem . He referred to the valuable services rendered them by Comp . Gillman— "the father of the chapter "—and to the fact that he was now installed in the

chair of M . E . Z . for the third time . He expressed the hope that the M . E . Z . might longbe spared to give counsel and advice to the members of the chapter . The toast was honoured with much enthusiasm , and Comp . Gillman , in eloquent terms , returned thanks . He had watched with great gratification the progress made by - the chapter , and he trusted that it would continue to increase and flourish .

In proposing " The Health of the Immediate M . E . Z ., Comp . Burslem , " the I . P . Z . paid a well deserved tribute to the perfect manner in which he had conducted the working of the chapter . Comp . Burslem , who , it may be stated , has occupied the First Principal's chair two years in succession , responded .

The toasts of "The Second and Third . Principals , " "The Visitors" —responded to by Comp . Barker— "The Newly-Invested Officers , " & c , were given and responded to , and the companions , in silence , drank to the memory of their two late colleagues , whose untimely deaths they deplored .
