PROVINCIAL GRAND CHAPTER OF WEST LANCASHIRE .
The above Provincial Grand Chapter held its annual convocation at the Southport Town Hall , on Saturday afternoon , the nth inst ., Comp . tho Earl of Lathom , Grand Superintendent , presiding , supported by Comps .
Rev . T . Barton Spencer , J . D . Murray , VV . R . Wylie , and others . There were over 100 companions present from Liverpool , Preston , Lancaster , Warrington , and other places , and only three chapters in the province were unrepresented .
The Prov . Grand Treasurer , Comp . H . NALL , P . Z . 13 S 7 , presented a statement of accounts , showing a substantial balance in hand . The accounts were adopted , and the Grand Superintendent nominated the following Provincial Grand Officers , and invested such as were present :

He congratulated District Grand Lodge on the state of lts hinds , and reported that the negotiations for the purchase of the premises , n which they held their meetings had proved unsuccessful , the owners , who
reside in England , declining to accept the terms offered on the ground '"¦ ' 'ti at the existing rate of exchange , the income they would receive would n ° t be a sufficient return for the money . He stated , however , that he had caused the negotiations to be re-opened with a view to ascertaining the an iount in sterling which would be accepted . He also drew attention to a

At the meeting of the Union Lodge of Instruction , held at Freemasons' Hall , Leicester , on the ioth instant , which was very largely attended , the opportunity was taken , it being the meeting place for most of the brethren of the province , and by permission of the Preceptor , to present Bro , William H . Barrow , Mus . Doc , P . M . 523 , Prov . S . G . D ., & c , with the robes of a Doctor in Music , as a mark of esteem and an expression of thanks for much fraternal kindness in adding to the pleasure of the brethren .
The presentation was made by the D . P . G . M ., Bro . S . S . PARTRIDGE , who , in a felicitous speech , eulogised the long and varied services rendered to the brethren of the province , and of the town lodges particularly , especially in connection with his art . Bro . Partridge congratulated Bro . Dr . Barrow on the eminence he had attained as a musician , and expressed hearty wishes for his continued health and prosperity .
Bro . Dr . BARROW acknowledged the gift in a few heartfelt words , and expressed the hope that he long might be able to give pleasure to the brethren , the doing of which was as much a pleasure to himself as to them . Subsequently a large number of brethren partook of supper together , and afterwards a further token of regard was presented to Bro . Dr . Barrow by Bro . H . Goodacre Marriott , W . M . 2028 , and D . C . of the lodge of instruction , on behalf of the subscribers .
Bro . MARRIOTT proposed "The Health of Bro . Dr . Barrow , " and then proceeded to offer for Bro . Barrow ' s acceptance a gold jewel of his rank as Grand Organist of the Mark Grand Lodge of England and the Colonies , & c . Bro , Marriott alluded to the great pleasure with which the brethren responded to thc invitation to join in subscribing to the testimonial , and of their hearty good wishes for Bro . Dr . Barrow ' s health and prosperity . The toast was received with musical honours .
Bro . Dr . BARROW , who was much moved , as this second presentation was a complete surprise to him , said words failed him to express how much he valued their expressions of fraternal goodwill , and trusted he long might be spared to wear the jewel , and to give his services to the cause of Masonry . An enjoyable evening was spent , and much harmony contributed by many brethren .

The ollicers were invested and the ceremony of the Cryptic rite was performed by the T . I . M ., assisted by the officers and 1 ' . T . I . M . Masters . Thc candidates , one of whom was the brother to the Maharajah of Baroda , were deeply impressed with the beautiful ceremony .
IT IS ANNOUNCKI ) that Bro . the Duke of Fife has consented to lay the fjundationstone of the new Town HaU and Municipal Buildings about to be erected in Ham-nersmith . The ceremony is fixed for the 7 th May , and a maetin-j of the inhabitants , which was very numerously attended , was held on Tuesday , the 21 st inst ., for the purpose of conceiting measures in order to nive his Grace a hearty wjlcone .

M . 3 ; Brake , Goodchild , Mulvaney . and other . The T . I . M ., Comp . Dr . J . R . Green was installed by Comp . VV . Vincent in an impressive manner . The ollicers were invested and the ceremony of the Cryptic rite was performed by the T . I . M ., assisted by the officers and 1 ' . T . I . M . Masters .
