Bro . the Rev . S . J . W . Sanders . M . A ., W . M . 1764 , delivered a lecture on the Poets and Ballad Writers of Northamptonshire before a large audience , at the National School Room , Kettering , on Thursday , the 18 th inst . At the meeting of the St . Dunstan ' s Lodge ,

No . 1589 , at Anderton s Hotel , on Wednesday evening last , Bro . Alfred lisley , who had acted as Secretary from the foundation of the lodge in 1875 , was presented by the members with a very handsome chronomtter and chain of the value of fifty guineas . We hope to give a report of the proceedings in our next .

A social Club , to be called "The Junior Arts , " has been formed , and will be started early in April at Lancaster House , the Savoy . The names of the Hun . Committee seem to indicate that the objects of the club will be carried out—namely , the provision of means of intercourse between members of the literary , dramatic , artistic , and musical professions .

The Queen has appointed Captain F . I . Edwards , of the Royal Engineers , Extra Groom in Waiting , to be Groom in Waiting in Ordinary to Hcc Majesty , in the room of Bro . Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur F . Pickard , C . B ., R . A ., V . C ., deceased . —Gazette . In a letter to the Lord Mayor , acknowledging

the receipt of £ 2000 , being the thirteenth remittance of a like amount , the Duchess of Marlborough says theie is no fear of famine , but there is still dire destitution in the mountainous parts and on the sea coasts , and , above all things , a great need of clothing and of good seed . At a meeting of the " Hull Literary Club on Monday , the 22 nd inst ., Mr . H . Calvert Appleby read an excellent paper on the " The Folk-Lore of Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire , " written in a flowing style . It was exceedingly well receiveel by the members of the Club . Mr . Appleby ' s talcs combine tbe romantic with reality in a singularly charming manner , and his graceful pen is capable of lending to dry antiquities all the fascinations of an enticing novel . W . M . Lodge 1827 , and Mr . W . T . Charley ( Common Serjeant ) received the honour of knighthood at the hands of Her Majesty . The regular meeting of the Farringdon Without Lodge , No . 1 745 , will be held on Monday , thc 5 th of April . The usual day having lallen upon Easter Monday , the W . M . has directed that the meeting be summoned as above for the general convenience of its memoirs .

The yearly festival of the City of London Truss Society will take place at the Albion on April 27 th . The Lord Mayor will preside , and will be supported by Mr . Sheriff Woolloton and Mr . The inauguration of the Kingsland Lodge of Instruction took place at the Canonbury Tavern , Islington , on , Monday , March 15 th . Bro . J . Terry rehearsed the ceremony of consecration and installation , after which the brethren partook of an excellent supper , provided by the host , Bro . Longhurst . The meetings will take place every Monday at 8 . 30 . p . m .

The installation meeting of the Ivy Lodge , No . 1441 , took place at the Surrey Masonic Hall on Tuesday last , when Bro . Wm . Ashwell was duly placed in the chair of King Solomon . We hope to give a report of the proceedings in our next . In order to give the working classes an opportunity of visiting the exhibition of pictures at Skinners ' Hall , the Council of the City of London Society of Artists

have resolved to reduce thd price of admission on Saturdays to sixpence . We regret to announce the death on the 6 th inst . of Bro . W . Oakley , P . M . 261 , P . Z . and P . Prov . G . W . Somerset . Our deceised brother had filled the office of Governor of Her Majesty ' s Prison at Taunton for nearly thirty years , and was well-known and respected in his province . The funeral took place on the nth inst ., and was largely attended .
