REVISION OF THE CONSTITUTIONS . To thc Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , Will you kindly allow us to repl y briefly to some of the comments made in your leaderette of last Saturday upon our comparison of the Old and Revised Book of Constitutions .

1 st . It would have been a matter for no small self congratulation had we entirely avoided inaccuracies in so complicated a task as that of placing side by side the various clauses contained in two books arranged upon two totally different systems , but at the same time it would have been kinder and more satisfactory to us if you had specified instances in which we have stated

that an old rule has been omitted when it is really incorporated in one in the revised code , and if you had named the consequent errors in our remarks to which you allude . Where special care has been taken to secure accuracy , it is not satisfactory to be accused in general terms of the opposite . 2 nd . It was necessary to make the old book the foundation

of our comparison . It is in thc hands of most brethren ; the revised book is onl y in the hands of a few . 3 rd . We fail to understand your statement that we are too late to claim a hearing , when you say yourself immediately below with reference to Rules 80 , 1 ig , and 130 , that you understand further propositions will be made . Why , if this is possibleare we debarred from

, proposing amendments ? 4 th . If , as you say , most of our " suggestions not affecting the sense " have been already agreed to , why was this not stated in the official report of the proceedings at the Special Grand Lodges ? We considered ourselves justified in assuming the accuracy and completeness of these reports .

5 th . You find fault with some of our suggested emendations on the ground that they have been already decided upon by Grand Lodge ; but you forget that of the amendments proposed , but not " recommended for adoption " by the Board of General Purposes , many were never put to the vote at all , and among these a re some we think of sufficient importance to be worthy of consideration now .
