Master : " The Most Worshipful Grand Master having had under his notice the present duties and position of the President of the Board of Benevolence , his Royal Highness deems it advisable to submit the following resolution for the consideration ot Grand Lodge :
That the President of the Board of Benevolence shall , by virtue of his office , be a Grand Officer , with rank next to Past Grand Secretaries , and that on retiring * from office he shall rank as a Past Grand Officer , in the same manner as the other officers of Grand Lodge , and that the Book of Constitutions be altered accordingly . 3 . Nomination of a Grand Master for the ensuing year . 4 . Nomination of a Grand Treasurer for the ensuing year . 5 . Appointment of a President of the Board of Benevolence . 6 . Election of a Senior and Junior Vice-President of the Board of
Benevolence . 7 . Election of 12 Past Masters to serve on the Board of Benevolence for the year ensuing . 8 . Report of the Board of Benevolence for the last quarter , in which is the following report and resolution : —
Before the business of the evening was commenced , Bro . James Brett , the S . V . P ., in the chair , reported to the Board the death , on the 29 th ult ., of their President , Bro . Joshua Nunn , P . G . Swd . Br ., and spoke in feeling terms of the severe loss which the Board of Benevolence and the Craft generally had sustained by the melancholy event .
It was thereupon unanimously resolved : That a record be placed on the proceedings , and in their report to Grand Lodge , of the extreme regret felt by all the members of the Board at the loss of their esteemed President * who , after holding for eleven years the office of Vice-President , had for the last five years presided over the Board with the utmost courtesy , impartiality , and ability , and recommendations for the following grants , viz .:

The attention of the Board having been called to the wording of Articles 304 , 307 , and 308 of the Book of Constitutions , the Board think it advisable , in order to avoid any misunderstanding , that the Articles in question should be altered to read as follows : —
304 . The Officers and Past Masters of the Grand Stewards' Lodge wear collars of crimson ribbon four inches broad . 307 . The collars of the Officers and Past Masters of private lodges to be light blue ribbon four inches broad ; if silver chain be used , it must be placed over the light blue ribbon .

The collars of the Officers and Past Masters of private lo dges are to be worn only in their own lodges , or when attending the Grand Lodge or their Provincial or District Grand Lodges as Masters , Past Masters , or Wardens . That Article 288 of the book of Constitutions read as follows : The following clothing and insignia may be worn by the Craft , but no brother shall be admitted into Grand Lodge or Provincial or District Grand
Lodge without the proper clothing pertaining to his rank , or into any subordinate Iodge without Masonic clothing . That the following addition be made to Article 307 , or embodied otherwise : Past Masters being subscribing members of any lodge under the English Constitution may wear a collar of light blue ribbon four inches broad , with a silver cord in the centre .

The installation of Bro . Sir Matthew White Ridley , Bart ., M . P ., as the Prov . Grand Master of Northumberland , took place at the Assembly Rooms , Newcastle-on-Tyne , on Tuesday , the 16 th inst . There was a very large gathering of Provincial Officers and brethren from all parts of the province , as well as visitors from the Province of Durham .
The lodge was opened in due form by W . Bro . R . H . Holmes , Deputy P . G . M ., acting as P . G . M . He was accompanied by the R . W . Installing Master , Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl Percy , P . P . G . M ., and among those supporting him were Bros . Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., P . G . M . ; Canon Tristram , D . D ., D . Bro , Sir M . W . Ridley , Bart ., M . P ., was introduced by seven Masters and Past Masters of lodges . I'he installation ceremony was very ably performed by Bro . Earl Percy . The newly-installed Prov . G . M . was duly saluted and afterwards appointed Bro . R . H . Holmes , the D . P . G . M . under his predecessor , as Deputy Prov . Grand Master .
The Earl PERCY then presented a handsome gold jewel of the Masonic Charities to Bro . B . J . Thompson , P . G . Sec , and said he did not think they knew how much the welfare of the province was constantly at the heart of their P . G . Secretary , and how much the affection and gratitude of the province was due to him . ( Applause . ) Bro . B . J . THOMPSON , P . G . S ., acknowledged the kindness of his
lordship . The D . P . G . M . moved that an address be presented to their late Provincial Grand Master , which was seconded by Bro . B . J . THOMPSON , P . G , Sec , and carried with acclamation . Bro . the Right Hon . Earl PERCY , in reply , referred with gratification to the growth and progress of the province under his 17 years' rule . This was owing to the able help of his officers and brethren , and the good feeling
always shown by them . He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to them . He felt the office was one not lightly to be resigned . He was certaim that when one felt the resignation of a Masonic appointment was desirable , it did not carry with * it any relaxation of brotherly or Masonic feeling . ( Applause . ) He had long desired to see some more active Mason in the chair , and in the change now made , he was sure the welfare of the province could only
be enhanced , and that it was in no way abated . ( Applause . ) It was a great pride and a pleasure for him to hand over to Sir M . W . Ridley the province—not to his own resources , but to those who assisted him—yielding to no other province in Masonic zeal , efficiency , or good work . ( Applause . ) He trusted its past prosperity would be nothing to that which would follow
under the rule of Sir Matthew White Ridley , whom he congratulated on his coming to the chair of the province . ( Applause . ) He had long desired to see some more active Mason in the chair , and in the change now made , he was sure the welfare of the province could only
be enhanced , and that it was in no way abated . ( Applause . ) It was a great pride and a pleasure for him to hand over to Sir M . W . Ridley the province—not to his own resources , but to those who assisted him—yielding to no other province in Masonic zeal , efficiency , or good work . ( Applause . ) He trusted its past prosperity would be nothing to that which would follow
under the rule of Sir Matthew White Ridley , whom he congratulated on his coming to the chair of the province .
