Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . Driver , in responding , said that the Treasurer had something to say about lhe services he had rendered . He had to prove , by his work in the future , that he had deserved the thanks they were giving him in anticipation . > " The Officers of the Lodge " was next given , and the toast coupled with the names of the S . W ., Bro . Lord

Molesworth , and the J . VV ., Bro . Ellis . Bro . Lord iV-oIesworth said he was pleased to belong to the Shadwell Clerke Lodge , whose prosperity was assured under the VV . M ., Bro . Matier . He had not , he regretted to say , been able to render the lodge all the services he could have wi-thcd ; but he trusted the coming year would be more fruitful . Bro . Ellis also replied .

The pleasure of the evening was much increased by the admirable singing of Bros . Dudley , Thomas , and T . W . Price , * while Bro . Dr . Lott kindly performed some instrumental music . The meeting was a most successful one , and the banquet provided by Bro . Hamp was of the choicest description . The jewels presented to the I . P . M . and Bro . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .

then passed to the Second Degree , the perfect work of the W . M . giving gjeat satisfaction to the brethren . Bro . Goldsmith , the S . W ., was next unanimously elected to the chair of K . S . for the ensuing year . Bro . Massey was reelected Treasurer , and Bro Very , as Tyler . A Past Master ' s jewel was cordially voted to the outgoing Master , Bro . Pardon , and the brethren adjourned to supper .

In the course of the evening the W . M . congratulated the brethren on the remarkable progress of the lodge , and he alluded at some length to the important step the lodge had taken , under his direction , with reference to the Lodge Benevolent Fund . They had early in the year agreed to set aside for their Benevolent Fund a considerable per centage of their lodge income , and what had been an

experiment and a leap in the dark had turned out to be a leap in the bright sunshine of success . They hoped in a few years to have a large and substantial Fund of their own , which he was sure would be administered in a just and fraternal spirit . Bro . Basil Cooke , in responding to thc toast of "The Officers , " informed the brethren that during the Church Congress week at Wakefield he visited the Unanimity

Lodge , No . 154 , and enjoyed a most cordial and fraternal welcome from the brethren of that lodge . During the evening much harmony prevailed , Bro . F . Cundy singing in bis best style several beautiful songs . Bro G . S . Graham , who was in splendid form , greatly amused the brethren , and further efforts on the part of Bros . Rogers , Potts , Vizetelly , F . Saunders , and F . H . Gale all aided to make up a most pleasant and enjoyable evening . The brethren separated about eleven o'clock .

LONDON RIFLE BRIGADE LODGE ( No . 1962 ) . —The election meeting of this popular lodge was held on Friday , the 19 th inst ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleetstreet , when there was a goodly attendance of members and visitors , under the presidency of Bro . W . McDougall , W . M . Amongst those also present were Bros . A . H . Sandle , S . W . ; H . F . Bing , , M . C , acting as J . W . ( in the absence of Bro . Tasman , through indisposition ); E .

McDowall , P . M ., Treas . ; W . C Claridge , P . M ., isec . ; L . V . Walker , S . D . ; J . C Tilt , J . D . ; j . W . Smith , Org . ; J . Green , I . G . ; G . Gregory , Stwd . ; N . Green , P . M . ; A . Haig-Brown , P . M . ; and many other brethren . Thevisitors included Bros . E . Blake , I . P . M . 507 ; T . J . Noakes , S W . 507 ; G . Davidson , 1024 ; T . Thomson , S . W . and W . M . elect 1597 » an & ti . J . Amphlett . The lodge having been opened in due form , and the

minutes of the last meeting confirmed , Bro . A . M . Hancock was passed to the Degree of F . C , the ceremony being most efficiently performed by the W . M ., assisted by his ollicers . The brethren then proceeded to the election of W . M . ior the ensuing year , their choice falling unanimously upon Bro . A . H . Sandle , who had ably discharged the duties of the S . W . ' s chair . Bro . E . McDowall was

reelected Treasurer , with thanks for his past services ; and the Tyler , Bro . Lackland , was also re-appointed . It was resolved , amidst acclamation , that a Past Master's jewel should be presented to Bro . McDougall on his retirement from the chair , the duties of which he had so " ably and efficiently discharged during his tenure of office . After some discussion it was unanimously resolved that the London

Rifle Brigade Fund of Benevolence be managed by a Committee , consisting of the W . M ., S . W „ J . VV ., Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary . " Some routine business having been disposed of , the lodge was closed with the customary harmony , and the brethren adjourned to the Pillar-room , vihei e dinner was served in Bro . F . H . Clemow's usually excellent style .

The prefatory toasts having been duly honoured , Bro . « . Haig-Brown , I . P . M ., rose with pleasure to propose 'The Health of the W . M ., " though that pleasure was mingled with a certain amount of regret , inasmuch as this Was the last occasion on which he should have the

opportunity of submitting that toast . They all looked back with satisfaction upon the year during which Bro . McDougall had been Master of the lodge , and hoped he would remain with them many years to carry on his breast the record which the brethren had unanimously voted to him that night , w his having served the most important position in the London Rifle Brigade Lodge . ] He was reminded that their

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

W . M . had attained the distinction of being champion shot of the London Rifle Brigade this year . In wishing their W . M . long life , happiness and prosperity , he expressed the hope that they might for many years have the pleasure of his company , and that his interest in the welfare of the lodge might continue unabated . The VVorshipful Master , in the course of his response , said he had always taken a deep interest in everything

connected with the London Rifle Brigade , with which he had been associated for the last 16 years . During that time he had made many close friends , and ventured to believe he had not missed a single evening . In joining the London Rifle Brigade Lodge , and being one of its founders , he felt confident it would be a success , because his experience had been that whatever the members of the Brigade took in

hand they carried through and ensured for it success . It always afforded him the greatest possible pleasure to meet the members of the lodge or the Brigade , or any one associated with the Brigade . For voting him that handsome award for the very small services he rendered to the lodge he felt exceedingly grateful , and he tendered them his hearty thanks , concluding by expressing the hope that he might be associated with the Iodge for many years to come .

Bros . Blake and Thomson having acknowledged the cordial reception that had been extended to the visitors , a distinguishing characteristic of the London Rifle Brigade Lodge , The Worshipful Master proposed , in felicitous terms , "The Health of the VV . M . Elect , " in doing which he expressed his conviction that Bro . Sandle would occupy the chair with credit to himself , and satisfaction to the

brethren . Bro . Sandle , S . VV ., could not find words adequately to express the gratification he felt at having been appointed as VV . M . of that eminent lodge ; but trusted he might be spared to carry out the duties of that high office with satisfaction to the brethren . In doing so he felt sure he should be ably assisted by the junior officers , and by the brethren generally of the lodge .

The Worshipful Master then gave "The Health of the Past Masters , " including the Treasurer and Secretary , whose services he eulogised as eminently satisfactory and conducive to the stability and well-being of the Iodge . Bro . Haig-Brown having expressed the interest which he and the other P . M . ' s felt in the lodge , The Treasurer said , with respect to their Benevolent Fund , he thought it was a good thing that a Committee

should be appointed , so that in the event of a case occurring , which he hoped might not be for many years , they might deal with it at once , and without bringing it before lhe lodge . If a brother belonging to the lodge had unfortunately to make application for assistance , his case would be enquired into by the Committee , and nothing more would be said in respect of it , and none of the brethren would know who had been relieved except the Committee .

He knew for a fact that £ 10 or £ 20 might be the means of assisting a brother over a difficulty for the time being ; but he would not like his name to be brought before the brethren and his affairs discussed in the lodge room , perhaps when there might be visitors present . He was therefore pleased that the motion for the appointment of a Committee was carried so unanimously , and for the confidence which the brethren had reposed in that Committee .

The Secretary , in his response , expiessed the pride he felt at having retained that position ever since the commencement of the Iodge . It was a pleasure to witness the prosperity nf the lodge , and to know it had done good suit and service in the cause of Charity . He thoroughly agreed with what the Treasurer had said respecting the Benevolent Fund , for he was convinced occasions sometimes arose when temporary assistance saved a man where otherwise

his prospects might be shattered . " The Health of the Officers of the Lodge" was next given , and responded toby Bro . Bing in suitable terms ; and the proceedings were concluded with the Tyler ' s toast . During the evening some capital songs and recitations were given , and the reunion was of a most enjoyable character .

M . elect 1597 » an & ti . J .

W . M . had attained the distinction of being champion shot of the London Rifle Brigade this year .
