result of an accident sustained in Rome . The S . him an infinite amount of pleasure to do so , on behalf of the companions of the chapter , who had unanimously responded to the suggestion of the l . P . Z . and the acting S . in the name of the chapter , desired heartily to congratulate him on his safe return to this country and his restoration to health , hoping that he would long be spared to continue those duties which as Treasurer he had so faithfully carried out for the past 13 years . Comp . Jabez Hogg , in his reply , expressed his gratification at the kind way in which the M . E . Z . had expressed

himself in presenting the jewel , and at the unanimity which had prompted the companions to recognise his position as representing the John Hervey Chapter in Grand Chapter . He also said he had the interests of the chapter at heart , and so long as he had health and strength he would do his utmost to advance those interests , and support the M . E . Z . for the time being for the welfare of the chapter . . He then

proposed " 1 he Health of the M . E . Z ., " ancl congratulated the companions on having so excellent a Principal , who vvas able on the night of his installation to perform the ceremony of exaltation so perfectly as he had heard had been done , which , however , he had not been personally permitted to witness . It augured well for the John Hervey Chapter ,

and he trusted that the officers now coming on would worthily emulate his example , thereby keeping up the prestige of this already well-known and promising chapter . " The Health of the Officers " vvas given and responded to , and subsequently a pleasant evening vvas brought to a close , several of the companions enlivening the same by songs and recitations .

At the dinner which subsequently followed , the opportunity vvas taken of presenting the Past Grand Sword Bearer ' s jewel to Comp . Jabez Hogg , who had been unavoidably absent at the preceding meeting through indisposition , the

result of an accident sustained in Rome . The S . E . read several letters from companions who were unable to altend from various causes , and who all wished to express their cordial concurrence with the gift bestowed , and their appreciation of the services rendered by Comp . Hogg ever since his conneetion with the chapter . The M . E . Z ., in presenting the jewel , said that it afforded

him an infinite amount of pleasure to do so , on behalf of the companions of the chapter , who had unanimously responded to the suggestion of the l . P . Z . and the acting S . E ., thereby leaving a surplus sufficient , after providing the regalia recently presented to him , to purchase the jewel . Every member had at the last meeting expressed their regret at his unavoidable absence through accident , and he ,

in the name of the chapter , desired heartily to congratulate him on his safe return to this country and his restoration to health , hoping that he would long be spared to continue those duties which as Treasurer he had so faithfully carried out for the past 13 years .
