Second Annual Ball Of The Elliot Lodge, No. 1567.
SECOND ANNUAL BALL OF THE ELLIOT LODGE , No . 1567 .
The " first ball" of this flourishing Middlesex lodge having proved a success , the brethren determined to hold a " second ( annual ) ball , " which has proved even a greater success than the first . Under the presidency of the W . M ., Bro . T . I . Bird , P . P . G . Swd . Br . Middx ., a Board of Stewards , comprising all the Past Masters and the officers carried out the
of the lodge , energetically , but quickly , necessary arrangements , and , as a reward for theirlabours , had the gratification of welcoming a brilliant assembly of about 200 ladies , brethren , and other friends at Freemasons ' Tavern on Thursday , the 14 th inst . A dispensation to wear Masonic Craft clothing and jewels was obtained , and made liberal use of . Coote and Tinney ' s band was again engaged , and performed the very excellent selection of
music in a manner which gave the greatest satisfaction to all present . Dancing commenced shortly after nine o ' clock , the spacious and elegant ball room being well filled by the time the first quadrille was formed , and was kept up with much spirit till at 12 . 30 the company repaired to the supper room , and did ample justice to the substantial , but elegant cold collation provided by Messrs . Spiers and Pond . The toasts were but three in number , and the speeches short .
the W . M ., who occupied the chair , being fully aware that music and dancing would be much more appreciated by his guests . The toast of " The Queen " was received with enthusiasm , the W . M . claiming that Freemasons , and especially " Elliot" Freemasons , their wives and friends , were among the most loyal and devoted of Her Majesty ' s many subjects . Bro . John Mason , P . M ., P . P . G . S . D . Middx ., proposed " The Elliot Lodge , and success to its
Annual Ball , " coupling with it the name of Bro . T . I . Bird , W . M ., and President of the Ball Committee , who had good reason to be proud of the way it was received . The W . M . then proposed "The Ladies , " bidding them hearty welcome , thanking them for coming in such numbers to support the " Elliot Ball , " and drew a humorous picture of the difference between waiting at home for their husbands to return from a Masonic meeting and spending
the time with them at a Masonic Ball . With the toast was coupled the name of Bro . S . J . Ball ( name of good omen ) , one of the able and courteous M . Cs ., who pleasantly but briefly replied . Supper and speeches were over in an hour , and the company were soon engaged in treading a measure , footing it feaily to the end of the programme , very few indeed leaving till the close .
The lodge meets at Feltham . Many local members and ladies came to Town , the London and South Western Railway Company specially attaching saloon carriages to a convenient evening train and to the first down train from Waterloo on Friday morning , and conveying the party to and from Freemasons' Hall in their private omnibusses .
