The Prince of Wales and his sons , the Princes Albert Victor and George of Wales , returned to Eaton Hall to complete their visit to the Duke of Westminster , on Friday , the 22 nd inst ., but the Royal travellers alighted at the Waverton Station instead of , as originally arranged ,

at Chester , it being considered unsafe , in consequence of the alleged Fenian threats against the Duke , to expose the Princes to any risk . Of course , this change of proyramme was a great disappointment to the worthy citizens of Chester , with whom his Royal Highness is immensely popular , and who had bravely illuminated their city in his honour .

The " Garden Oracle" for 1886 ( London : The Gardeners' Magazine Office , 4 ., Ave Maria-lane ) differs from all other works of the kind in the completeness of the register of plants , flowers , & c , introduced in the past year , and the selection of the best varieties in all departments for the year that is now before us . In addition to the

established features , the new Oracle contains a selection of herbaceous and Alpine plants , and a treatise on their cultivation , and , so far as we know , it is the only almanac in which the new Parliament has a place . We regret to announce the death , on Saturday last , at the age of 75 , of Bro . Viscount Strathallan , a distinguished Scottish brother , who was representative at the

Grand Lodge of Scotland from the Grand Lodge of Denmark , and Seneschal of the Order of Masonic Knights Templar . Bro , H . B . Marshall , P . G . Treas ., presided at the election of children which took place at the Court of Governors and Subscribers of the Orphan Working School , which was held at the City Terminus Hotel , Cannon-street , on Wednesday .

The Lady Mayoress will hold her first reception at the Mansion House on Tuesday next , from 3 p . m . to 5 p . m . On Wednesday , the 17 th prox ., Bro . the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress will entertain at dinner the Masters of the City Companies . At a meeting of the Hilda Chapter , No . 23 ,

An influential deputation from the parishioners of St . Bartholomew-the-Great , West Smithfield , waited on Bro . the Lord Mayor , at the Mansion House on Wednesday , for the purpose of inviting his lordship to extend his help in the efforts they were making to restore the church . Bro . the Lord Mayor expressed sympathy with the object , and promised to attend a conference in the church later on .

A Masonic ball is announced to be held at the Town Hall , Great Yarmouth , on Tuesday , the 2 nd prox ., under the auspices of Lodge Friendship , No . 100 , Great Yarmouth . The tickets will be , gentlemen 15 s ., ladies 10 s . Bro . Jas . Bond , Bank House , Great Yarmouth , is in charge of the arrangements , and the different lodges in the province have been solicited for their kind co-operation . Freemasons will welcome the " Cosmopolitan

Masonic Calendar and Pocket Book , " which is a little mine of information concerning all things connected with the Craft . It contains particulars of every Grand Masonic body in the word , a list of all lodges in the United Kingdom , with the addresses of Grand Secretaries , and other matters of interest , besides a diary and calendar . The consecration of the Prince Edward Lodge , No . 2109 , took place on Saturday , the 23 rd inst ., at the future home of the lodge ^ the Conservative Club , Heaton Moor—and was witnessed by 145 brethren from the Provinces of West and East Lancashire , Cheshire ,

Derbyshire , and Warwickshire . The petition for a warrant to constitute the lodge was applied for at headquarters as far back as July last , but , owing to the absence of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales on the continent , the authorities were unable to obtain his signature thereto . A full report of the proceedings will appear in our next issue .

On the 22 nd inst ., the Roman Eagle Lodge , No . i 6- > , ( S . C . ) held a smoking concert in the Oddfellow ' s Hall , Edinburgh , in aid of the Scottish Masonic Benevolent Fund . There was a good audience . Bro . Ironside , R . W . M ., who presided , said that it was hardly necessary to state to members of the Craft that most of the Masonic funds were spent in Charity ; but for some years past they

had met with this difficulty , that they had not an adequate permanent fund from which to give pensions to deserving widows and orphans . It was now proposed to raise a fund of £ 10 , 000 before they began to operate uoon it in a

svstematic manner . That concert had consequently been fixed upon as a pleasant means of furthering the object they had in view , all the artistes giving their services for nothing . An excellent programme of vocal and instrumental music was afterwards gone through in a creditable manner .

The Prince of Wales and his sons , the Princes Albert Victor and George of Wales , returned to Eaton Hall to complete their visit to the Duke of Westminster , on Friday , the 22 nd inst ., but the Royal travellers alighted at the Waverton Station instead of , as originally arranged ,

at Chester , it being considered unsafe , in consequence of the alleged Fenian threats against the Duke , to expose the Princes to any risk . Of course , this change of proyramme was a great disappointment to the worthy citizens of Chester , with whom his Royal Highness is immensely popular , and who had bravely illuminated their city in his honour .

established features , the new Oracle contains a selection of herbaceous and Alpine plants , and a treatise on their cultivation , and , so far as we know , it is the only almanac in which the new Parliament has a place . Derbyshire , and Warwickshire . The petition for a warrant to constitute the lodge was applied for at headquarters as far back as July last , but , owing to the absence of H . R . On the 22 nd inst ., the Roman Eagle Lodge , No . i 6- > , ( S . C . ) held a smoking concert in the Oddfellow ' s Hall , Edinburgh , in aid of the Scottish Masonic Benevolent Fund . There was a good audience . Bro . Ironside , R . W . M ., who presided , said that it was hardly necessary to state to members of the Craft that most of the Masonic funds were spent in Charity ; but for some years past they

had met with this difficulty , that they had not an adequate permanent fund from which to give pensions to deserving widows and orphans . It was now proposed to raise a fund of £ 10 , 000 before they began to operate uoon it in a

svstematic manner . That concert had consequently been fixed upon as a pleasant means of furthering the object they had in view , all the artistes giving their services for nothing . An excellent programme of vocal and instrumental music was afterwards gone through in a creditable manner .
