Freemasonry In New South Wales.

feAV zealous Brethren in Campbeltown , a district of the county of Cumberland , have been met by a successful issue in having a Lodge opened in their locality under the most flattering auspices , amid the sincere congratulation of the Avhole of the Craft in the colony . From the moment Avhen the intentions of our CampbelltoAvn Brethren became knoAvn in Sydney , the most lively interest ivas manifested in the successful inauguration of the

Southern Cross Lodge , aud a large number of the Brethren made arrangements to be present on the occasion . Previous to the day appointed ( the 17 th November , 1858 ) for the opening of the IICAV Lodge , considerable alterations Avere made in the Forbes Hotel , CampbelltoAvn , AA'here the ceremony ivas to take place ; a great portion of the building was remodelled , and a spacious apartment constructed for the convenience of the Lodge , and , on this occasion particularly , decorated for a dining and ball room . The

work ivas most ably executed , and for the accommodation of a band of music a commodious platform Avas erected at . the front of the hotel . The interior decorations , more particularly intended for the ball , ivere attended to by the ladies of Campbelltoivn , and the fair artists Avere ampl y rewarded in the success their efforts achiei-ed . Our Sydney Brethren assembled at the Freemasons' Hall , York-street , Sdneyat 9 . 30 a . m . Avhen the D . Prov . G . M . Bro . Alderman Williams

and Scotch constitutions , proceeded to the Great Southern Railway terminus , South Sydney , where special arrangements had been entered into for the tri p . Upon their arrival at CampbelltoAvn , the fraternity Avere met by the Brethren Avhose Lodge Avas that day to be inaugurated , aiid after mutual congratulations , Avended their Avay to the Forbes Hotel , from wliich place the St . George ' s ensign Avas hoisted . At this point , the Prov . G . Chaplain , Bro . the Eev . Geo . Macarthur , haA'ing joined the meeting , the Provincial

Grand Lodge ivas opened in a separate room , from Avhenceit proceed to the intended Lodge room , Avhere the majority ofthe Brethren were assembled . The ceremony of inaugurating the Southern Cross Lodge Avas then performed in a most- able maimer , by the D . Prov . G . M ., Avith corn , ivine , and oil ; after AA'hich , the W . M ., Bro . Dr .
