M . of tho Robert llama Lodge , and also for tho S . D ., iu both cases resulting unanimous in favour of those brethren . From unavoidable causes , however , they woro not present . The three principal addresses woro given , after
which the resignation of an old Comp . —John Bennett , Z . in 1837—was received with great regret . The Chapter was then closed until January next , and tho Companions dined together in the Preston Room . The usual toasts woro given , interspersed with some excel , lent singing , and a very enjoyable evening was spent . Tlie M . E . Z .

The minutes of tho previous meeting having been confirmed , the ballot was taken for two candidates who wero fully expected to be present for initiation , aud whilst waiting their attendance the Lodgo was passed aud raised , aud closed
to tbe first degree , when the announcement was mado that tho expected candidates wore at tho last moment prevented from attending . Au unusual incident thou occurred . The Lodge had on a previous occasion very materially assisted a worthy member whoso circumstances had changed through unforeseen calamity ; aud by the intervention of the W . M . and his Ollicers , his
caso had been brought before tho Board of Benevolence with a highly satisfactory result . To his honour , bo it said , he saw fit to attend and to acknowledge , in open Lodge , his deep senso of thankfulness for the assistance afforded , and his manner of doing this lot ' s it very doubtful in the minds of tho brethren as to which party had most cause to be gratified with this practical
exemplification of tho true principles of the Order . Tho worthy brother , by his simple acknowledgments , himself unwittingly did good service to tho cause of Charity , and tho hearts thus stirred by his grateful thanks were at once expanded by a desire for further benevolence . Tho W . M ., Bro . Daniel , stated his willingness to act as Steward for the Benevolent Institution at its ensuing Festival , with
a personal donation ; tho Lodgo itself voted ton guineas , and a wellknown brother supplemented that vote by a further sum of equal amount . Thus was sot afoot the nucleus of a Stewards' list which will materially help the funds of tho Institution aud bo worthy of the Lodgo which bears the title of " Prosperity . " Long , indeed ,
may prosperity attend it , and enable it to continue such laudable ) Masonic work . Tho W . M ., addressing tho Visitors , apologised ( quite needlessly as they remarked ) , for whatever disappointment they experienced from absence of work and non-provision for subsequent entertainment , but requested them to remain for a " grog and cigar , " aud social chat on matters Masonic . The three principal addresses woro given , after
which the resignation of an old Comp . —John Bennett , Z . in 1837—was received with great regret . The Chapter was then closed until January next , and tho Companions dined together in the Preston Room . to tbe first degree , when the announcement was mado that tho expected candidates wore at tho last moment prevented from attending . Au unusual incident thou occurred . The Lodge had on a previous occasion very materially assisted a worthy member whoso circumstances had changed through unforeseen calamity ; aud by the intervention of the W . M . and his Ollicers , his
caso had been brought before tho Board of Benevolence with a highly satisfactory result . To his honour , bo it said , he saw fit to attend and to acknowledge , in open Lodge , his deep senso of thankfulness for the assistance afforded , and his manner of doing this lot ' s it very doubtful in the minds of tho brethren as to which party had most cause to be gratified with this practical
exemplification of tho true principles of the Order . Tho worthy brother , by his simple acknowledgments , himself unwittingly did good service to tho cause of Charity , and tho hearts thus stirred by his grateful thanks were at once expanded by a desire for further benevolence . Tho W . M ., Bro . Daniel , stated his willingness to act as Steward for the Benevolent Institution at its ensuing Festival , with
a personal donation ; tho Lodgo itself voted ton guineas , and a wellknown brother supplemented that vote by a further sum of equal amount . Thus was sot afoot the nucleus of a Stewards' list which will materially help the funds of tho Institution aud bo worthy of the Lodgo which bears the title of " Prosperity . " Long , indeed ,
may prosperity attend it , and enable it to continue such laudable ) Masonic work . Tho W . M ., addressing tho Visitors , apologised ( quite needlessly as they remarked ) , for whatever disappointment they experienced from absence of work and non-provision for subsequent entertainment , but requested them to remain for a " grog and cigar , " aud social chat on matters Masonic . Ho then closed the Lodgo aud
