Lodge of Progress , No . 1768 . —All the founders are pupils of tho Emulation Lodge of Improvement , and , in nearly every instance , if not quite , are active working members thereof . Desirous of perpetuating Emulation ritial , as well as cementing friendships formed in acquiring the knowledge of the same , soveral brethren last year petitioned for the formation of this Lodgo . Tho Progress was
consecrated last October by our esteemed Grand Secretary , Bro . John Hervey , Treasurer of the Emulation Lodge , and Bro . W . Alfred Dawson was installed first Master . Two emergency meetings have been held , in addition to the regular ones , during the past twelve months , and tho number of brethren now enrolled is considerable . No . 1768 is essentially a non-banquetting Lodge , the fourth degree
only being observed at the installation . On Wednesday last tho installation meeting was held , on which occasion Bro . F . R . Spaull was inductsd into tho chair of K . S . by the retiring Master , Bro . Dawson , the ceremony being admirably performed . Bros . C . A . Mnrton P . G . D . and T . Fenn P . G . D . occupied the Wardens' chairs . Metropolitan Chapter of Instruction . —The weekly meeting took place on Tuesday last at the Jamaica Coffee House , St . Michael ' s Alley , Cornhill . Tbe Chapter was opened in due form , with the following Ollicers : —Comps . Brown M E . Z ., Gillard H ., Cafcterson J ., Goldsmith P . S ., and Walker N . The ceremony of exaltation was
gone through , Comp . W . P . Catterson , of the Wellington Chapter , No . 548 candidate , and he afterwards became a member . The ceremony was performed by Comp . Brown in a faultless manner . Any Royal Arch Masons who wish to progress cannot do better than attend this Chapter . Tho Companions meet every Tuesday evening at seven o ' clock .

r PHE members of this popular club gavo an entertainment on Mon . J- day , at their now established quarters , the Cannon-street Hotel . There was a very large attendance , and tho Pillar Room was taxed to the full extent of its space capacity- The programme , which was admirably carried out , contained fifteen items ; of theso the most successful of the concerted pieces was the Glee , " By Colia ' a
Arbour , " which may bo ranked as the gem of the evening ; tho artists who took part in it were Messrs . E . Collins , Albert James , A . Hubbard and A . J . Thompson . The latter gentleman was very successful in the song , by Clay— "Tho shades of Evening Close aronnd "—and which the audience iuduced him to repeat . A similar
compliment was paid Mr . E . Collins when he sang " My sweetheart when a boy . " Mr .. Kift contributed a couple of pianoforte solos , which he executed faultlessly . Another feature of tho entertainment wo must not omit to mention was the Part Song— " The . Image of the Rose . " in which Mr . Albert James undertook tho solo . Wo
understand this Club , which is limited to 200 members , has but a very few vacancies , and from the desire always shown to participate in the membership we should recommend any of onr readers who contemplate joining to make early application .
