rjlIlL 143 rd installation was celebrated at tho Masonic Hall J- Norwich , on Thursday , 2 l ! rd ult ., when Bro . Frederick S . Smith waa placed in th ;> ohair by Installing Master Brother Craw ) , of Yarmouth . Over sixty brethren were present from all parts of the oountry . The banquet was held at tha Snffolk Hotel , with Brother Frederiok Smith in the chair , and sixty-nine brethren sat down to a

splendid repast . The menu was artistically printed , and the toast list was interspersed with apt quotations from Shakespeare and other authors . Tho mnsical brethren wero the Norwich Cathedral Qnartet party , Messrs' . Cockaday , Brookes , Thouless , and Brookbank ; harpist ,

Bro . Miles , London ; violinist , Bro . Tnddeitham , Norwich ; Organist , Bro . Lovele ?; - , Woodbridgo ; pianists , Bros . Perrin and Brookes . A Fast Master ' s * jowel was presented to Bro . Kersey , and a Secretary ' s jewel to Bro . Jeckells .

CAMBRIAN LODGE , No . 404 .

rlHE membors of this Lodge resumed their duties , after tho sntnmer J . recess , at the Masonio Hall , Haverfordwest , on Wednesday , The 22 nd ult . Lodge was tylod at 7 ' 15 . A ballot was taken for J . M . Owen , Esq ., surgeon , as a candidate for initiation , and he was unanimously accepted . The W . M . Bro . W . Howell Walters referred to the loss they had sustained by the decease of their esteemed Brother ,

P . M . Samnel Read , of tho Haverfordwest Paper Mills , P . Z . P . P . G . P . and P . Charity Steward of the Province , and proposed that a letter of condolence bo sent to his family . Bro . Rule Owen P . M . P . Z . P . P . G . R . seconded the proposition , whioh was carried unanimously . Oar late Brother was an energetic and enthusiastic Mason , having

obtained the highest offices in tbe Craft , Royal Arch and Rose Croix degrees . He was also a member and past officer of the Pioton Castle Lodge of Mark Master Masons , No . 297 . A true and sincere friend , his genial manner and kindly greeting will long be enshrined in the memories of his brethren . During his Stewardship he spared

himself no pains or expense , travelling throughout the length and breadth of the Province , and thns endearing hims « lf to the brethren of the Division . It may be truly said of him , " He wore the white flower of a blameless life . " He died , after a very brief illness , at his residence , Mill Bank , Haverfordwest , on Saturday , 27 th Sept ., in the

67 th year of his age . His mortal remains were interred in the Cemetery of Prendergast Chnrch , Haverfordwest , on Wednesday , 4 th Oct ., the funeral service being conducted by the Rev . J . N . Colbonrn , pastor of the Congregational Church . In the unavoidable absence from home

of the W . M ., two Past Masters , the Senior Warden , Senior Steward , and one of the latest initiates of the Lodgo , were deputed to attend the funeral and represent the Lodge to whioh oar late Brother was affiliated 17 years ago , and in which he had been awarded the highest honours the Craft could confer .

Lives of such men all remind ns We may make our lives snblimo , And , departing , leave behind ns Footprints on the sands of time .

Footprints that perhaps another , Sailing o ' er life ' s solemn main , Some forlorn aud shipwrecked brothei Seeiug , may take heart again .

On resuming the business of the Lodge , Bro . Howell Walters proposed , and Bro . Levi IRrries P . M . seconded a candidate for initiation . Lodgo was closed , and the brethren retired to the supper room , where an excellent repast was served np by mine host Bro . Benjamin Davies P . M ., the well known proprietor of the Queen ' s Hotel , Haverfordwest .

WILLIAMSON LODGE , No . 940

AT a regnlar meeting , held on the 20 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , North Bridge Street , Sunderland , presentations by the brethren of the Lodge were made to Bro . G . VV . Bain P . M . P . P . G . R ., and to Bro . J . G . Kirtley P . M . P . P . G . D ., iu recognition of their services rendered iu the erection of the above Hall . Bro . Bain was presented

With a handsome reading lamp , bearing a suitable inscription iu Bilver , aud tho presentation to Bro . Kirtley consisted of a chaste marble timepiece surmounted with bronze figures , and also with a similar inscription .

Preston , assisted by various Past Masters , in the presence of a large gathering of members and visiting brethren . Bro . W . IT . Vaughan Secretary invested the Officers , in the following

ON Tuesday , 21 st ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Prince ' s Street , Brother T . P . Dorman , P . P . G . Supt . Works , was installed as Worshipfnl Master for the ensuing year . The Installing Officer was Bro . Geoz'ge Butcher , who occupied the Master ' s chair during the past year , aud whoso performauoe of the ceremony was the theme of general praise .

than the Grand Master of their own Province , the Earl of Enston ? Bro . Beeby Thompson gave tbe Earl of Euston Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Butler Wilkins Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and the Officers of the Province Pust and Present . Bro . Butler Wilkins , in responding , paid a high tribute to the loyalty with whioh he had been snpported by the Officers of the Province in past years , b « foie Lord Euston ' a

appointment , when the burdens of tho Province devolved npon himself . Canon Sanders gavo the health of the W . M . of the Eleanor Cross Lodge , and testified to the good qualities whioh had endeared Bro . Dorman to them as Masons . They could not measure their in . debtednesa to him for the erection of that magnifioent building . Bro . Dorman , iu an apt reply , referred to the fact that the Masonio

buildings were erected on part of the site of the old Grey Friars Monastery , the home of a religious community , whose aim was the inouloation of brotherly love , relief , and truth . It was , therefore , not unfitting that the borne of Freemasonry in Northampton—an Institution based upon brotherly love , relief , and truth—should be erected there . Bro . T . H . Vials gave the Visiting Brethren , which waa acknowledged with eloquonce by Bro . Cumberland P . M . P . P . G . S . W .

North and East Yorkshire , with humour by Bro . Parkinson , and with praotical point by Bro . Bulford W . M . elect Fidelity Lodge , Towcester . Other toasts were given and spoken to by Bros . H . Manfield , H . Brown , George Butcher , George Ellard , A . Jones , J . Currall , & o . Bro . W . H . Tarry gave a splendid rendering of Bro . Isidore deSolla ' a incomparable Masonio song , " Brotherhood , " and Bro . Parkinson recited imitations of Tennyson ' s " Charge of the Light Brigade" with inimitable humour .

ATLINGWORTH LODGE , No . 1821

11 HE annual installation meeting was held at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on the 16 th ult . The Lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . J . Billinghurst , who was supported by his Officers . The Lodge was honoured by the attendance of several visitors . The chief business of the meeting was the installation of Bro . M . Lelew , as W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony being impressively performed by Bro . B . Burfield P . M . The W . M . appointed his Officers for the

ensuing year , those present being invested with the insignia of their respective offices , viz .: —Bros . W . C . Newsam S . W ., O . Embling J . W ., S . Peters Treasnrer , A . Loader Secretary , H . Starr S . D ., D . Thomson J . D ., J . Parsons Dir . of Cers ., T . Bnllook I . G ., Bury Shaw and A . P . Dolman Stewards , and H . H . Hughes Tyler . Tho retiring W . M . Bro . J . Billinghurst was presented with a Past Master ' s jewel ,

in appreciation of the manner in whioh he had carried out his duties during the past year . The Lodge having been closed in due form , the brethren adjourned to the Banqueting Room , where they sab down to a banquet supplied by Bro . J . Sayers , of Western-road , whoso catering gave the greatest satisfaction . The post-prandial proceedings were of a hearty character . The newly elected W . M .,

who presided , proposed the Queen aud the Craft , and then submitted the M . W . the Grand Master H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and the Officers of Grand Lodge Present and Past . In proposing the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge Present and Past , he said the Freemasons of the Province wore proud of having one so exalted as H . ll . U . the Duke of Connaught at their head , and he ( the W . M . )

and those present were gratified to have the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Sir W . T . Marriott , amongst them that evening . They were also honoured by the presence of the Provincial Grand Wardens , and among the Past Provincial Grand Officers who attended he heartily welcomed Bro . S . H . Soper , the Mayor-elect of Brighton . Bro . Sir VV . T . Marriott , on rising to respond , was cordially received . H . R . H .

the Duke of Connaught would , he said , like to visit tbe Province , bub hia many duties prevented him from being among them this year , but he believed he would be enabled to preside over them nexb year Speaking for himself , he said he was pleased to assist at so large a gathering . The Lodge , from its name , was associated with one of whom Brightonians were proud , Mr . Somers Clarke . And that

reminded him , he said , of the great kindness ho had received from one of their brethren , Bro . G . S . Godfree , on the occasion of a severe drenching which he experienced in a storm while hunting on tho Downs . Bro . Marriott ' s recital of hi 3 experiences evoked hearty laughter . Bro . Godfree proved , he said , that he possessed tho trno soul of Freemasonry , and he believed the members of the Lodge wero

imbued with the same spirit . He wished the Lodge every success in the future . Brother J . Billinghurst I . P . M . proposed tho Worshipful Master . He felt , ho said , that he conld not do adequate justice to the toast . Bro . Lelew had shown excellent work , and wonld render a good account of himself , and worthily sustain tho honour of tho Lodge . The Worshipful Master , who was

enthusiastically received , said that it had been said that " out of the abundance of the heart the month spoaketh . " Doubtless there wero exceptions to this , and he was oue of those exceptions . He had been much impressed by the recption accorded him , and wished to thank Bros . Billinghurst , G . S . God freo , S . Peters , B . Bnrfield , II . Anscmnbe , O . Embling and J . Sayers for their admirable assistance in

promoting tho success of their large gathering . He hoped ho should prove himself worthy of the groat kindness shown him . He had not entered upon bis duties lightly , and he trusted to be able to carry ont those duties satisfactorily and with benefit to the Lodge . He announced that Bro . Button had presented the Lodge with a " Loviug Cup . " Bro . G . S . Godfrey proposed tho Worshipful Masters
