Grand Mark Lodge.

The Grand Committee of Scotland have had under their consideration a charge preferred against a Lodge j for meeting on a certain Sunday in February . Opening ; a Lodge on Sunday , says " The Mallet , " in " Glasgow . Evening News , " considering the devout nature of I Masonic ceremonies , is not a heinous offence , nor is it

an unknown event , but to meet and confer degrees is . certainly remarkable , and our contemporary thinks without precedent in Scotland . o o o

From the same source we learn that at the quarterly meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Glasgow , a member put a question , framed in rather brutal form , on the effect a reverse in business would have on the

Master of a Lodge ; whether or not it should prevent him retaining office ? This is altogether a new reading of Freemasonry , says " The Mallet , " the principles of which calls unon us to succour and sunnort—not to

crush — a Brother so unfortunately circumstanced through no fault of his own . The manner in which the question was received , and the no uncertain sound

of the answer given , shows that there are still Freemasons , good men and true , who can respect a man though poor in this world ' s gear . We fully endorse the spirit of the remarks here given .

o o o The Masonic Lodges of France , and especially of Paris , take a very considerable part in political affairs , It is very largely due to their opposition that the proposal to establish a national fete in honour of Joan of

Grand Mark Lodge.

Arc has been practically killed . They argued , and probably with good reason , that such a fete would be used by the clericals as a lever to attack the Eepublic . — " Western Morning News . " o o o

We make an announcement this morning which will be hailed with delight by the Freemasons of Brighton and Sussex , viz ., that it has been decided to hold the annual Festival in connection with the Royal Masonic Boys Institution again this year in Brighton . Last year it took place on the 28 th June , tho banquet being held in the Dome , under the presidency of Lord Brooke . It was a

remarkably brilliant gathering , and was especially noticeable for the loyal and generous way in which Sussex members of the Craft rallied to the support of this noble and deserving Institution . Freemasons , like most other folk , are not above the influence of friendly rivalry , and it is one of the features of the Festival banquet to witness the

interest excited and the enthusiasm evoked at the announcement of the lists . Naturally Brighton and Sussex Freemasons will be anxious not to be backward in generosity this year . If the Sussox Brethren are to excel in the generous measure of support which they have accorded tho Institution in tho past , they must see to it

that they are represented by a large and influential number of Stewards . For the purposes of the Festival the Brighton Corporation have granted the Order the use of tho whole of the Pavilion buildings and grounds , upon special terms . Tho Right Hon . W .

Lawies Jackson , M . P ., the Provincial Grand Master of West Yorkshire will preside at the banquet , which will bo served in the Dome , and already there arc over 500 Stewards . A large number of Freemasons aud lady relatives and friends are expected from Yorkshire and all parts of England , and everything points to a brilliant and influential gathering . — " Brighton Gazette .
