SUMMER AND WINTER PALACE OF VARIETIES , MILE END ROAD , E-—The spirited proprietors of the above favourite resort—Bros Crowder and Payne—are , as nsnal , offering an excellent bill of fare-The entertainment opened with the performance by the Band of the Overture to Rossini ' s " Tancredi , " which was artistically rendered , under the direction of Mr . C . Bell . A highly diversified programme
followed , including a clever acrobatic performance by the Panto Troupe , some lively songs and Negro sketches . The latest novelty introduced is a highly finished sketch , portraying the trials of the underpaid and overworked railway employes , entitled "Danger on the Line , " by Mr . Harry Lynn , an East End favourite . There are some very pathetic scenes , diversified with jokes , and many bright
lines , and the sketch is well received by large audiences . The piece is capitally mounted , under the personal direction of Bro . Crowder , and the final scene , where the struggle between love and duty is depicted—the overworked signalman having fallen asleep , and his child straying upon the line to gather wild flowers , just as the express comes dashing up—is most effective . Mr . Lynn is assisted
by his little daughter Jenny—a bright child of five years old , who plays her part with rare intelligence . The popular Grand Ballet , " The Red Gnome , " introduced the clever Martinetti Troupe , assisted by Miss Alice Holt . This is well mounted , and proves highly attractive . Some clever trapeze business brings the entertainment
to a close . The general management is under the direction of Mr . Wilton Friend . Bro . J . R . Nash is the Secretary , Bro . C . S . Crowder superintends the mounting and stage management , and Mr . F . Lefargue makes a capital Chairman . The establishment is admirably ventilated , and despite the heat of the weather a comfortable and enjoyable evening can be spent here .
