3 . REPORT OF THE BOARD OF GENERAL PURPOSES . To the United Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of England . The Board of General Purposes beg to report that their attention having beon directed to an application dated 24 th May 1876 , from the Lodge of Love and Honour , No . 75 , Falmouth , for the usual Grand
Lodge Certificate for the Tyler , who was initiated so long ago aa the 8 th April 1861 , and to certain letters in which it was stated that the said Brother was initiated without tho necessary Dispensation required by Article 9 , page 86 , Book of Constitutions . Tho Board , after due consideration , although none of the Brethren then in office aro now
members of tho Lodge , felt that the Lodge—as a Lodge—must bo held responsible for such a grave irregularity on the part of its former officers , but at the same time did not treat the offence with the severity which would under the circumstances have been extended to it . The Board therefore simply ordered that the Lodgo should pay a fine of
one guinea , and that the Grand Secretary should be empowered to issue the Certificate on payment thereof . The Board desiro to especially direct tho notice of the Masters and Secretaries of Lodges to Art . 26 , Page 69 , of tho Book of
Constitutions , attention to which would at once prevent aunoyanco to their successors , and the necessity of an appeal to the Executive of Grand Lodge . ( Signed ) PETER DE L . LONG , Vice President of the Board .

DEATH OF BRO . T . SOLOMON , OF TRURO .
T 5 TE record with regret the death of Bro . Thomas Solomon , of » ' Truro , at his residence on Friday night , aged 69 years . Bro . Solomon had not enjoyed good health for some years , but was able to attend to his business until within the last two months , when he was taken ill , and after it change of air , which did not do him any good , was brought back to his home about a fortnight ago . Deceased was the head of tho firm of Solomon and Co ., decorators , & c , whose
principal house of business was at Truro , with several branches in other towns in Cornwall . He possessed a natural , as well as a cultivated taste for his profession , and was endowed with moro than ordinary intelligence , common sense and business aptitude—tho result being that his assistance was widely sought for , and that he was associated with nearly all the public and charitable societies in
the town . For twenty-three years he was a member of the Town Council . In 1863 he was elected an alderman , in which office he continned up to his death , at which timo he was tho presiding alderman of the Western ward . Bro . Solomon twice occupied the civic chairin 1866 and 1867—and in May 1868 ho was mado a justice of tho peace . He was one of the founders of the Truro Institution and had
been identified with it ever since . He also took a deep interest in the Truro School of Art . For many years he has been ono of tho overseers for the parish of St . Mary ' s . Ho was also ono of the trustees of the Truro charities , and director of tho new Public Rooma . He was much interested in the Volunteer Fire Brigade , and was chairman of the Firo Engine Committee of tho Town Council . As a
Mason he was known throughout the province , and had held many high and important offices . He was initiated into the Craft in the Phoenix Lodge of Honour and Prudence , No . 331 , Truro , of which Lodge he occupied the chair in 1860 , and was appointed Prov . Senior Grand Warden by the late Bro . Augustus SmiLh P . G . M ., in 1 S 67 . Ho was also a member of the Centenary Lodge of Fortitude , No . 131 , Truro
and of several other Lodges in the county . Uo served as Master of tho Fortitude Mark Lodge , No . 78 , Truro , and was appointed Prov . G . M . Secretary by the Prov . G . M ., Sir F . M . Williams Bart . M . P ., in 1872 , in which year ho was P . Z . of the Cornnbian Royal Arch Chapter ; also P . E . G . of tho Royal Cornubiau Preccptory of Knight Templars , and an S . P . of the Rouge Croix . Bro . Solomon did not
confine his attention alone to tha Order of Masons , but recognized the benevolent objects of the Odd Fellows aud Foresters , aud was an honorary member of both . He was a warm snpporter of the philan - thropic or religions societies , and ever ready to help by his purse or time . In politics he was a decided Liberal , and for many years took an active and leading part in the elections , but of late ve-irs hud
