NOTICES OF MEETINGS
Metropolitan Chapter of Improvement . —At the last meeting of this Chapter , which took place on Tuesday , tho 30 th inst ., at the Jamaica Coffee House , St . Comps . W . Stephens acted as Z ., Cox H ., Berrie J ., Leemann S . E ., J . Constable S . N ., Uighe P . S ., John Boyd as Preceptor . After the reading and confirmation of the minutes , the ceremony of exultation was rehearsed , Comp . Self acting as candidate . Tho first clause of the first section of tho first Lecture was worked by Comp . Boyd , assisted by the companions . It is remarkable that this
well-conducted and ably worked Chapter is not better supported . Kew Eoyal Arch Chapters aro continually being consecrated , aud scores aro exalted to the degree . It might , therefore , be reasonably supposed that tho number whose business it is to obtain tho requisite knowledge to fit them for office shonld increase in a proportionate ratio . Such , however , is apparently not the case , judging from the
comparatively scant attendance at ono of the few Chapters of Instruction of which Loudon cau boast . Surely thero can bo but low who think it consistent with the honourable feeling which should actuate every true Mason to permit himself to pass the different grades of office without due preparation . And whero can proficiency be obtained it not at the place set apart for the purposes of rehearsal and instruction ? It is , therefore , surprising , and not easily accounted for , that
this Chapter of Improvement is not more numerously patronised , more especially when we take into consideration that it is tho only place where the explanatory Lectures , which form no mean aid to the student , are worked . There aro always able Companions present , who gladly give their assistance , and who earnestly invite those who are desirous of being instructed to pay a visit to the Chapter , which meets every Tuesday throughout the year , at 6 . 30 , and closes at 8 . 30 .

absent ; his constant attention and trul y Masonic conduct , both in the chair of the Lodge aud Chapter , had endeared him to all his brethren , and he ( Comp . He had no idea that the Companions had deemed him worthy of such a testimonial . The
gift in itself was valuable , but he should prize it far above its intrinsic worth , as marking the esteem of those among whom he had been proud to work .
