Matthews , George Fulcher and John Pash ( who had been initiated at a Lodge of Emergency ) were then proposed by the W . M ., who drew attention to the fact that tho Lodge was essentially confined to members of the Eegiment , and , therefore , they were always glad to see their

comrades join that Lod ge in preference to an outside one . Ho hoped they would become good and deserving Masons , and always regard their admission into the Craft as one of the happiest events of their lives . The " Initiates' " song was then sung by Bro . Capt . Eglese , and afterwards these brethren made suitable responses . In giving the health of the " Visitors , " the W . M . said there were upwards of

30 present , most of them were well known in the Masonic world , and some of them held high positions in the Craft . They wore always pleased to see visitors there , and they did their best to givo them a hearty welcome ; this he hoped all had so far experienced . Iu returning thanks , Bro . Major Charles Harding and Bro . Dr . Eamsay both expressed their thanks for tho cordial welcome extended , both

to them and the other visitors . In proposing the next toast , " The Past Masters , " the W M . said it was one that was always received with reverence and respect ; they wer « regarded as the strength and stability of the Lod ge . Bros . Honey and Griffiths Smith each said a few words in acknowledgment . The Treasurer and Hon . Secretary was then given , and in speaking of the able and zealous services

rendered to the Lodge by Bro . Capt . Eglese , as Hon . Secretary , for BO many years past , the W . M . congratulated the Lodge on having a brother whose whole heart and soul was in his work ; one who was always ready to assist any rising member with the benefit of his Masonic knowled ge . Bro . Capt . Helsham , having only recently been elected , had not yefc entered on his duties , but thoy had a guarantee

he would take the strictest care of their funds . Both these brethren assured the Lod ge that their best energies should be devoted to their respective offices . The health of " the Officers " was responded to by Bros . K . S . Webster S . W ., and W . Jolliffe D . C . The evening was made additionall y pleasant by some capital singing by Bros . H . P .

William Preston Lodge of Instruction , No . 766 . — This Lodge met on Friday , the 26 th of January , at Bro . Kennard's , Upper George-street , Edgware-road . Present—Bros . Aug . Braun P . M . 766 W . M ., J . Davison S . W ., Parsons J . W ., Eudderforth Preceptor , Gadden S . D ., Hayes J . D ., Tribbel I . G . ; also Bros . Kennard , Shephard , Eeddie , Evans and Murch . The Lodge was opened in clue form , and the minntes of the last meeting were read and confirmed .

The W . M ., Bro . Braun , rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Coates acting as candidate . The Lodge was advanced to tho second , and Bros . Coates and Evans answered the questions for raising . Lodge being resumed to the first degree , Bro . Eudderforth worked the first section of the lecture , assisted by the brethren . He then asked the questions in tho fourth section , in which Bro . Jas . Davison answered the whole in a most satisfactory manner . Bro . Davison was elected W . M . for the ensning meeting , and tho Lodge was then closed .

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction , No . 860 . —The weekly meeting of the above Lodge took place on Tuesday , 30 th January , at Bro . Allen's , Eoyal Edward , Triangle , Hackney . Bro . Lovelock W . M ., W . J . Smith S . W ., Perry J . W ., Barker S . D ., Hewlett J . D ., Saunders I . G ., Worsley Secretary , and P . M . Wallington Preceptor ; also Bros . Dallas , Brown 1607 , Brown , Defriez , P . M . ' s Ashburner , Wright , Bonner ,

& c . The Lodge was opened , with solemn prayer ; the minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed . The chair was then occupied by Bro . P . M . Wallington , who worked the installation ceremony , and invested the officers as above ; Bro . P . M . Ashburner gave the remainder of the ceremony ; both P . M . ' s rendering their parts in a clear and impressive manner . The ceremony of initiation was then worked by

the W . M . ( Bro . Lovelock ) , Bro . E . Dallas acting as candidate . Bro . Hewlett worked the 3 rd section of the lecture , assisted by tho brethren . Bro . W . J . Smith was unanimously elected W . M . for tho ensuing week , and appointed his officers in rotation . We hope Bro . Smith will have a good attendance , as tho Preceptor justly remarked that it was always very pleasing to hear him do the ceremonies .

Although a young member , Bro . Smith is always perfect . A unauimous vote of thanks was given to Bro . Lovelock for his able occupancy of the chair for the first time . Bros . Macklin and Wardell , of Lodge Eastern Star , No ' . 95 , and Bro . Coombes , of Lodge Fortitude , No . 12 , were elected members of this Lodge of Instruction . The Lodge was then closed in due form , and adjourned till Tuesday , 6 th February , at 7 . 30 precisely .

Upton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1277— This Lodge held its meeting at lfro . Bolton ' s , King and Queen , Norton Folgato , on Friday , 26 th January . Bros . Cleverley W . M ., Lane S . W ., Olclroyd J . W ., Lupinsky S . D ., Townsend J . D ., A . W . Fenner I . G ., Bolton Treasurer . Lodgo was opened in due form , when the ceremony of

initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Simpson acting as candidate . Bro . Gross having , through unavoidable circumstances , resigned the Preceptorship of the Lodge , after somo discussion it was resolved to accept the same , and the brethren expressed a hope that some brother would kindly offer his services as Preceptor , when , through the medium of tho F REEMASON ' CHRONICLE , thoir want became known to the

brethren at large . This being the first timo of the W . M . occupying the chair , a vote of thanks was unanimously accorded him for tho creditable manner in which ho had filled the samo . Bro . Gladsmuir Lodge . No . 1385 . —Tho installation meeting of this Lodge was held on Friday , 26 th January , at the Eed Lion Hotel , Barnet , and was well attended by the members aud visitors . Bros . A board of installed masters was then formed , and Bro . John Livingston 8 . W ., W . M . elect , was regularly installed into the chair , the ceremony being very efficiently

Goddard was unanimously re-elected Tyler . The W . M ., in tho name of the

Lodge , presented a P . M . 's jewel to the I . P . M ., Bro . Cutbnsh , as a token of esteem and fraternal regard , and for the able manner he had managed the affairs of the Lodge dnring hisy ear of office . This was very suitably acknowledged . The Lodge was then closed , and tho brethren sat down to a most sumptuous banquet , provided in Bro . Fisher ' s well known admirable manner . Upon the table being cleared , tho

W . M . proposed the health of the " Queen and Craft" in few but fitting terms , which were received in the usual cordial manner . Tho national anthem was then sung . Tho W . M . gave the Most Worship , ful the Grand Master , after which the Pro G . Master , Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of tho Grand Officers past and present , whose healths were drank with enthusiasm . The Prov . G . M ., Bro . Halsey ,

was the next toast on the list , and the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and the Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge past and present . Tho W . M ., in giving this toast , said that it afforded him very great pleasure to see so many brethren round the table who held office in Provincial Grand Lodge ; he was happy to find so many in his own Lodge who were honoured with the Purple . This toast was coupled with the name of Bro . Dr . lies , the Prov . Grand Secretary for Herts

who replied in most able terms . Other toasts followed , and received due acknowledgment . Amongst the visitors present were Bros . Ilea P . M . P . G . Sec , W . Gilbert P . G . J . "Great City Lodge of Instruction , No . 1426 . —This Lodge met at its new quarters , Masons' Hall Tavern , Masons' Avenue , Coleman Street , E . G ., on Thursday , the 1 st instant , when there was a very good attendance of brethren , and a full evening ' s work . The Lodge was opened by Bro . W . Shaw , who then requested Bro . James Stevens to take his place , and carry out the business of the evening . This consisted of the rehearsal of the first ceremony , and the

working of tho whole of tho sections of the first lecture . Amongst thoso present were—Bros . T . Pooro Preceptor , Browne S . W ., Payno J . W ., Spiegel S . D ., Goodman J . D ., Gladwell I . G . ; 0 . Taylor , Harper , Bain , Blissett , Saul , Frances , Blackie Secretary , Colmer Treasurer . Bro . Taylor officiated as candidate . The accommodating room secured by this Lodge gavo great satisfaction , and will , certainly , materially increase the prosperity and popularity of tho Lodge .

Chiltern Lodge , No . 1470 . —This Lodge held its regular meeting on Tuesday , 23 rd ult ., at the Town Hall , Dunstable . Present —Bros . F . Howell W . M ., T . W . Haselgrove S . W ., ltandall J . W ., Saunders Secretary , Eev . C . Harris Chaplain , Otway S . D ., Sinkwell J . D ., Cutler Steward , M . Harris I . G ., Day Tyler ; and Bros . Grow , Beart , Ballans , Monk , Teale , Stevenson , Jones and others . Visitors

—Bros . Grigg W . M . 228 , Holmes , Patmore , Haselgrove , Inwards , & c . The Lodge having been opened , Bro . Jones was passed , and Bro . Howell W . M . then installed his successor , Bro . Thomas W . Haselgrove , iu a very perfect manner , eliciting the thanks of the brethren . Having completed his second year of office , the out-going W . M . was voted an extra bar to his P . M . ' s jewel , to record tho esteem of the brethren for'his courtesy , and to show their appreciation of the

manner he had again conducted the business of tho Lodge . The new W . M . then appointed his officers , viz . —Eandall S . W ., Otway J . W ., Sinkwell S . D ., M . Harris J . D ., Cutler I . G ., Eev . 0 . B . Harris Chap , lain , Captain Teale Secretary , Oobley Treasurer , Eussell D . C , Wood Steward , Day Tyler . The banquet was served by Bro . Saunders , afc tho Sugar Loaf Hotel , in his best style , and tho usual toasts were duly given and responded to .

Alexandra Palace Lodge , 3 Mo . 1541 . —We have on several previous occasions had to chronicle the successful gatherings of this highly prosperous surbnrban Lodge , but those agreeable re-unions have usually occurred between tho spring and autumnal equinoxes , when the surroundings of the now deserted Palace at Mnswell Hill havo presented a scene of animation and enjoyment . Essentially ,

tho Alexandra Palace is a " summer Lodge , " but at the last regular meeting , held in October , there were no fewer than five candidates for Initiation , and a number of brethren awaiting advancement in tho superior degrees . The W . M . therefore ordered an Emergency Lodge to be called on Saturday last , and it redounds highly to the credit of tho members , and speaks volumes for their enthusiasm iu the good

"Great City Lodge of Instruction , No . 1426 . —This Lodge met at its new quarters , Masons' Hall Tavern , Masons' Avenue , Coleman Street , E . G ., on Thursday , the 1 st instant , when there was a very good attendance of brethren , and a full evening ' s work . The Lodge was opened by Bro . W . Shaw , who then requested Bro . James Stevens to take his place , and carry out the business of the evening . This consisted of the rehearsal of the first ceremony , and the

working of tho whole of tho sections of the first lecture . Amongst thoso present were—Bros . T . Pooro Preceptor , Browne S . W ., Payno J . W ., Spiegel S . D ., Goodman J . D ., Gladwell I . The accommodating room secured by this Lodge gavo great satisfaction , and will , certainly , materially increase the prosperity and popularity of tho Lodge .

Chiltern Lodge , No . 1470 . —This Lodge held its regular meeting on Tuesday , 23 rd ult ., at the Town Hall , Dunstable . Present —Bros . F . Howell W . M ., T . W . Haselgrove S . W ., ltandall J . W ., Saunders Secretary , Eev . C . Harris Chaplain , Otway S . D ., Sinkwell J . D ., Cutler Steward , M . Harris I . G ., Day Tyler ; and Bros . Grow , Beart , Ballans , Monk , Teale , Stevenson , Jones and others . Visitors

—Bros . Grigg W . M . 228 , Holmes , Patmore , Haselgrove , Inwards , & c . The Lodge having been opened , Bro . Jones was passed , and Bro . Howell W . M . then installed his successor , Bro . Thomas W . Haselgrove , iu a very perfect manner , eliciting the thanks of the brethren . Having completed his second year of office , the out-going W . M . was voted an extra bar to his P . M . ' s jewel , to record tho esteem of the brethren for'his courtesy , and to show their appreciation of the

manner he had again conducted the business of tho Lodge . The new W . M . then appointed his officers , viz . —Eandall S . W ., Otway J . W ., Sinkwell S . D ., M . Harris J . D ., Cutler I . Saunders , afc tho Sugar Loaf Hotel , in his best style , and tho usual toasts were duly given and responded to .

Alexandra Palace Lodge , 3 Mo . 1541 . —We have on several previous occasions had to chronicle the successful gatherings of this highly prosperous surbnrban Lodge , but those agreeable re-unions have usually occurred between tho spring and autumnal equinoxes , when the surroundings of the now deserted Palace at Mnswell Hill havo presented a scene of animation and enjoyment . Essentially ,

tho Alexandra Palace is a " summer Lodge , " but at the last regular meeting , held in October , there were no fewer than five candidates for Initiation , and a number of brethren awaiting advancement in tho superior degrees . The W . M . therefore ordered an Emergency Lodge to be called on Saturday last , and it redounds highly to the credit of tho members , and speaks volumes for their enthusiasm iu the good
