Bro . Taylor , no one oan realise better than yourself the feelings by which we hnve been actuated in making thiB presentation . It will never be necessary for you to refer to it to be reminded of the sentiments of respect in which yon are held by the members of the Craft , bnt when your son arrives ( as 1 trust he will ) at the estate of
manhood , to be a source of happiness to you and yonrs , yon may then point to it and tell him that your honourable career in Freemasonry has gained you the respect , friendship , nay , I would say the affection , of all the brethren , who , in common with myself , have bad the privilege of being brought into contact with yon . The
testimonial consists of a most elaborate drawing in pen and ink , executed with the finish of a steel engraving , by Bro . T . Pedlar , a member of the Lodge , and represents a frieze and pediment sup . ported by two columns , that on the left "being a fluted Corinthian , and on the right Ionic , both with their respective pedestals ,
balustrades , & o . In the centre of the pediment over the main cornice is the All Seeing Eye , underneath on a scroll laying over the entab - lature is the Royal Arch jewel , underneath the frieze is the date of presentation on a soroll with the square and compasses on the left and crossed gavels on the right . In the panel of the Corinthian
column is the Past Master ' s jewel , on the corresponding side is the P . Z . ' s jewel , and in the centre the Secretary ' s jewel and other Masonic emblems . The drawing is enclosed in a mount and massive gilded oak frame . Bro . Taylor , in reply , said Worshipful Master , Officers , and Brethren , —I hardly know in what terms I can express
to you the feelings which arise within me at this moment , or how I can adequately reply to the remarks which have been so kindly conveyed by the Worshipful Master beyond saying that the recollection of this event will remain in my heart till death . The long associations I have had with this , my Mother Lodge , have rendered it and
its members very dear to me , and my connection with the Ecleotic Chapter and the Ewell Lodge and Chapter , all of whioh I assisted in founding has at all times given me the greatest possible gratification , and after the numberless proofs I have had of the esteem of the brethren , this last token of their kindness and goodwill affects me so
powerfully that I am left without words properly to show the feelings of gratitude with whioh I am animated . And , Worshipful Master , I feel keenly your allusion to my son , and you may rest assured that the beautiful testimonial yon have presented me with this evening will be an heirloom to be prized by him , and which , when he arrives
at an age to understand it , I shall show him with pleasure and pride , to testify to the esteem , love and kindness always shown to his father by the members of those Masonic societies to whioh he had the privilege to belong . Music , well rendered by several members and visitors , assisted in enlivening the proceedings , Mrs . Snrridge being
much applauded for the excellent manner in which she delivered the song she had selected . At the desire , however , of some , the W . M . soon after cut short both speech and song , and the room was cleared for dancing , which was kept np till tho warning tones of Bro . Madel , the Manager , in announcing the closing of the establishment , caused members and guests to depart .
