NOTICES OF MEETINGS

Neptune Lodge , ITo 22 . —There was a very large attendance at the ' meeting of this Lodge , held on Thursday evening , 24 th nit ., at tho Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , nnder the presidency of Bro . George Britton , tha Worshipful Master , who was supported by Bros . Thomas P . Ceilings I . P . M .. John Harper , Ph . D ., S . W ., John . Tames Slater J . W ., Isaac Wilcox P . M . Treas ., T . E . Eames P . M . Hon .

Sec , ITenry Povey S . D ., E . W . Conlcher J . D ., W . Cook I . G ., E . F . Storr P . M . D . of C , C . W . Neats W . S ., J . Parkinson Tyler , and abont fifty brethren and visitors , amongst the latter were Bros . G . P . Britkm P . M . 183 , Winnest 59 , Francis 34 , Sandle 1599 , Philips 858 , Hart 218 , Eolfe 435 . Lodge having been opened in doe form , the ballot was taken for Bro . W . E . Brooks , of the Great Northern Lodge ,

No . 1287 , as a joining member , which was declared to be nnammons in his favour . The Lodge having been advanced , Bro . Hedderley answered the nsnal questions , and was entrusted ; and on the Lodge being further advanced , he was raised to the sublime degree , the W . Master delivering the charges in a most impressive and able manner . The working was watched throughout with much interest , and all

admitted , that in the almost closing act of official career as ruler of tho Neptune Lodge , Bro . Britton maintained that marked ability which has so characterised his year of office . At the con . elusion of the practical work on the agenda , tho brethren proceeded to voto for a successor to Bro . Britton as Worshipful Master , and the choice fell unanimously upon Bro . J . Harper , who as S . W . had

been exceedingly popular , and had earned his prerogative For promotion by the efficient manner in which be bad discharged tbe dnties of the minor offices through which he had passed . Bro . Isaac Wilcox P . M . was unanimously reelected Treasurer . The following brethren were elected to serve on tho andit committee , viz ., Bro . Henry Povey S . D ., Bro . William Cook I . G .,

and Bro . Joseph Corbett . Bro . Walker submitted a petition in support of the formation of a new Lodge to be called the London Eifle Brigade Lodge , which was dnly signed by the Worshipful Master and Wardens . On the motion of Bro . E . F . Storr P . M . Director of Ceremonies , the sum of five guineas was voted to each of the three Masonic Charities , after which , in a well-chosen

nnd highly eulogistic speech , Bro . T . P . Ceilings I . P . M . proposed that a jewel , bearing a suitable inscription , be presented to Bro . Britton on his retirement from the ohair . Lodge being closed in due form , the brethren adjourned to the banqueting-room , where a sumptuous banquet was served by Messrs . Eitter and Clifford in their customary excellent style . The nsual Loyal and Masonio toasts having been

duly honoured , Bro . Storr P . M . P . O ., in the absence of the I . P . M . ( who was compelled to leave early ) , proposed , in felicitous terms , the health of the retiring W . M ., ' observing thab ifc afforded him particular gratification to witness the excellent working of Brother Britton , he boing tbe first of his introductions into the Neptune Lodge who had attained to the chair . The Worshipful Master , in

responding , thanked the brethren for the very cordial manner in which they had received his toast ; he was quite prepared to own it was for others who were endowed with more rare gifts to shine in the Masonio world as planets , but whilst having no pretence to rank in that exalted sphere , he trnsted that daring his year of office he had been enabled to discharge tho duties devolving upon

him to the satisfaction of the brethren , and , though his light was not so brilliant , yefc feeling assured that he bad gained their approbation he shonld retire from the chair with a feeling of satisfaction ; bnt before doing so , he wished to testify to the kindness he had received from all , and tho excellent support he had received from bis Officers . The W . M . next gave the health of the W . M . elect ,

observing that ho was sure the brethren would find in Bro . Harper an excellent successor , and one who would uphold the dignity and reputation of the Lodgo . The W . M . elect replied in suitable terms , thanking the brethren for the honour they had done him by electing him to the Mastership , a position he had long looked forward to attain ; he assured them he would do his utmost to further

the interest aud welfare of the Lodge . The toast of the Visitors was next given , and suitably acknowledged by Bros . Winsett ; G . P . Britton , Francis , and Philips . The Tyler's toast closed the proceedings . The enjoyment of the evening waa mneh enhanced by the following recitations : — " The Frenchman at the Lord Mayor ' s Show , " " Shemus O'Brien " and " Hans Breitzman saw the Comet , " by Bro .

Francis ,- "Forgotten , " by Bro . Corbett ; "Tbe Blacksmith and Dog Carl , " by Bro . Mac Gregor , and the following songs , " Wrecked and Saved , " by Bro . Winsett ; " The Tar's Farewell , " by Bro . Mark Hubbard ; " Nil Desperandum , " by Bro . Brooks ; "The Boatswain ' s Story , " ancl " The Runaway Musketeers , " by Bro . Walker . Bro . Hopper acted as accompanyist . The Installation will be held on the last Thursday in January .

Boyal Union Lodge of Instruction , Wo . 382 . -At the meeting held on the 2 lst instant , at the Chequers Hotol , IIabridge , thero were present fourteen brethren lo meet Bro . Tucker , tlio Preceptor . Bro . Cotton took the chair ns W . M ., appointing the following as his Officers : -Bros . F . Botley S . W ., Poole J . W ., Nicholson S . D ., Gray J . D .. Marclon T . G ., Dutfln Tyler . The Lodge was opened in duo

form , and the minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed , after which Bro . C . Andrews P . M . gavo tho lectnro on tho first tracing board , in a very able and impressive manner , to the delight of all present . The following wero elected members : —Bros . W . Coombes P . M . 382 , Brown , andTapIin . The distinguished compliment

of honorary membership was conferred on the following : —Bros . E . H . Sugg P . M . 152 , C . E . Botloy D . C . 780 , aud F . Botley 780 . Bro . F . Botley was appointed W . M . for the next meeting . The meeting tf-day was held after refreshment had boon served to the brethren attending the mother Lodge , and the experiment proved successful . On the 2 Sth ult . Bro . F . Botley took the chair , and appointed the following as his Officers : —Bros . Sugg P . M . S . W ., Tucker Preceptor

Neptune Lodge , ITo 22 . —There was a very large attendance at the ' meeting of this Lodge , held on Thursday evening , 24 th nit ., at tho Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , nnder the presidency of Bro . George Britton , tha Worshipful Master , who was supported by Bros . Thomas P . Ceilings I . P . M .. John Harper , Ph . D ., S . W ., John . Tames Slater J . W ., Isaac Wilcox P . M . Treas ., T . E . Eames P . M . Hon .

Sec , ITenry Povey S . D ., E . W . Conlcher J . D ., W . Cook I . G ., E . F . Storr P . M . D . of C , C . W . Neats W . S ., J . Parkinson Tyler , and abont fifty brethren and visitors , amongst the latter were Bros . G . P . Britkm P . M . 183 , Winnest 59 , Francis 34 , Sandle 1599 , Philips 858 , Hart 218 , Eolfe 435 . Lodge having been opened in doe form , the ballot was taken for Bro . W . E . Brooks , of the Great Northern Lodge ,

No . 1287 , as a joining member , which was declared to be nnammons in his favour . The Lodge having been advanced , Bro . Hedderley answered the nsnal questions , and was entrusted ; and on the Lodge being further advanced , he was raised to the sublime degree , the W . Master delivering the charges in a most impressive and able manner . The working was watched throughout with much interest , and all

admitted , that in the almost closing act of official career as ruler of tho Neptune Lodge , Bro . Britton maintained that marked ability which has so characterised his year of office . At the con . elusion of the practical work on the agenda , tho brethren proceeded to voto for a successor to Bro . Britton as Worshipful Master , and the choice fell unanimously upon Bro . J . Harper , who as S . W . had

been exceedingly popular , and had earned his prerogative For promotion by the efficient manner in which be bad discharged tbe dnties of the minor offices through which he had passed . Bro . Isaac Wilcox P . M . was unanimously reelected Treasurer . The following brethren were elected to serve on tho andit committee , viz ., Bro . Henry Povey S . D ., Bro . William Cook I . G .,

and Bro . Joseph Corbett . Bro . Walker submitted a petition in support of the formation of a new Lodge to be called the London Eifle Brigade Lodge , which was dnly signed by the Worshipful Master and Wardens . On the motion of Bro . E . F . Storr P . M . Director of Ceremonies , the sum of five guineas was voted to each of the three Masonic Charities , after which , in a well-chosen

nnd highly eulogistic speech , Bro . T . P . Ceilings I . P . M . proposed that a jewel , bearing a suitable inscription , be presented to Bro . Britton on his retirement from the ohair . Lodge being closed in due form , the brethren adjourned to the banqueting-room , where a sumptuous banquet was served by Messrs . Eitter and Clifford in their customary excellent style . The nsual Loyal and Masonio toasts having been

duly honoured , Bro . Storr P . M . P . O ., in the absence of the I . P . M . ( who was compelled to leave early ) , proposed , in felicitous terms , the health of the retiring W . M ., ' observing thab ifc afforded him particular gratification to witness the excellent working of Brother Britton , he boing tbe first of his introductions into the Neptune Lodge who had attained to the chair . The Worshipful Master , in

responding , thanked the brethren for the very cordial manner in which they had received his toast ; he was quite prepared to own it was for others who were endowed with more rare gifts to shine in the Masonio world as planets , but whilst having no pretence to rank in that exalted sphere , he trnsted that daring his year of office he had been enabled to discharge tho duties devolving upon

him to the satisfaction of the brethren , and , though his light was not so brilliant , yefc feeling assured that he bad gained their approbation he shonld retire from the chair with a feeling of satisfaction ; bnt before doing so , he wished to testify to the kindness he had received from all , and tho excellent support he had received from bis Officers . The W . M . next gave the health of the W . M . elect ,

observing that ho was sure the brethren would find in Bro . Harper an excellent successor , and one who would uphold the dignity and reputation of the Lodgo . The W . M . elect replied in suitable terms , thanking the brethren for the honour they had done him by electing him to the Mastership , a position he had long looked forward to attain ; he assured them he would do his utmost to further

the interest aud welfare of the Lodge . The toast of the Visitors was next given , and suitably acknowledged by Bros . Winsett ; G . P . Britton , Francis , and Philips . The Tyler's toast closed the proceedings . The enjoyment of the evening waa mneh enhanced by the following recitations : — " The Frenchman at the Lord Mayor ' s Show , " " Shemus O'Brien " and " Hans Breitzman saw the Comet , " by Bro .

Francis ,- "Forgotten , " by Bro . Corbett ; "Tbe Blacksmith and Dog Carl , " by Bro . Mac Gregor , and the following songs , " Wrecked and Saved , " by Bro . Winsett ; " The Tar's Farewell , " by Bro . Mark Hubbard ; " Nil Desperandum , " by Bro . Brooks ; "The Boatswain ' s Story , " ancl " The Runaway Musketeers , " by Bro . Walker . Bro . Hopper acted as accompanyist . The Installation will be held on the last Thursday in January .

Boyal Union Lodge of Instruction , Wo . 382 . -At the meeting held on the 2 lst instant , at the Chequers Hotol , IIabridge , thero were present fourteen brethren lo meet Bro . form , and the minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed , after which Bro . C . Andrews P . M . gavo tho lectnro on tho first tracing board , in a very able and impressive manner , to the delight of all present . The following wero elected members : —Bros . W . Coombes P . of honorary membership was conferred on the following : —Bros . E . H . Sugg P . M . 152 , C . E . Botloy D . C . 780 , aud F . Botley 780 . Bro . F . Botley was appointed W . M . for the next meeting . The meeting tf-day was held after refreshment had boon served to the brethren attending the mother Lodge , and the experiment proved successful . On the 2 Sth ult . Bro .
