Callemler had at last been safely returned to the possession of

tho Lodgo . Tho ballot waa then taken for the election of AV . M . for tho next year , and resulted nnanimously in favour of Bro . Arthur Hinea S . W . For this striking mark of appreciation Bro . Hines briefly returned thanka . The election of Treasurer followed , and resulted in the selection for the sixth timo of Bro . R . E . Johnson P . M . Bro . Jas . Sly was also re-elooted Ty ler . Bro . Johnson appropriately

thanked the brethren for the renewal of their confidence in him . The W . M . then received tha hearty good wishes of the visitors , and by hia kind invitation all the brethren adjourned to supper , where all enjoyed tho good things provided . On the removal of the cloth , the W . M . proposed tho customary Loyal and Masonic toasts , which wero duly honoured . After Bro . Walker had kindly obliged with a

song , the AV . M . rose to propose the health of tho newly raised brother . He congratulated him on hia attaining tho rank of Master Mason , trusted he would learn more , and recommended him to go forward and become a useful Officer in hia Lodge . AVhen the older members fell into the sere and yellow leaf , it was pleasing to see the younger ones , who had received the benefit of light from their hands , come

forward and carry on the good work . It was always cheering to brethren who had worked hard in their Lodge to witness this in thoir declining years . The toasfc waa drunk with Maaonic hononra . Bro . Edwarda P . M . kindly favoured with a song . Bro . Pulford returned his sincere thanks for the privilege ho had enjoyed . The more he learned of Freemasonry , the more he appreciated ifc . He

hoped to improve the knowledge he nov - possessed by a regular attendance at hia Lodge . Tho W . M . proposed the health of the Visitors , which he did in a right fraternal spirit . Ifc waa a great feature in life to see brothers bound together by indissoluble bonds of union . Visiting gave many advantages ; it gave all an opportunity of improvement . There was always something to bo learned , and the

presence of visitors gave a zest to the Officers of a Lodge . He hoped the brethren who had that evening favoured them with a visit wonld again drop in ; afc all times the Callen & er Lodge would receive them cordially . Bro . AVrigley gave an illustration of ventriloquism , which waa much enjoyed , and Bro . AVarburton added to tho harmony of the evening with a capital song . Brother AVaddell returned

thanks on behalf of the Visitors for the genial manner in which their health was proposed and accepted . He was very pleased to be present to witness tho unanimous election of hia friend and brother the Senior Warden to tho office of AV . M . for tho next year . He waa sure it was an election which , would prove advantageoua to the' Lodge , as Bro . Hines waa well fitted

to fill the chair . Bro . Stephens also responded , and was followed by Bro . Asplaud , who expressed himself as being very pleased to see hia friend the W . M . opened tho Lodge with due observance of the usual customs . The minutes of the last regular meeting were ratified , and thou the ballot was taken for Mr . R . 0 . Hulme , which proved unanimous , and that gentleman waa initiated into the mysteries of Anoienfc

Freemasonry . Bro . J . D . gave the charge very ably . The Lodge waa then advanced to the second degree , and Bro . J . Arensberg passed Bro . Wm . Hall to take his seat among Fellow Crafts . Bro . Norton again ascended the oast , and conferred the second degreo on Bro . H . 0 . Clifford Smith The working of all the Officera of this Lodge ia admirable , and the De Grey and Ripon ia one of thoae

vigorous Lodges which it does a brother ' s heart good to visit . Thero ia nothing musty or languid belonging to 1161 . The large number of viaitora present afc its meetinga , and the pleasure they all evince afc attending indicates thafc the brethren of Manchester do appreciate a healthy Lodge . If some Lodgea cease to be instructive and energetic—which really moans entertaining—then brethren will

go where they can be edified and gratified . This ia also applicable in Royal Arch Masonry—Freeraaaonry lives , and ia a reality . This ia an ago of action , of great competition . Let thoso who are sluggish and now rusting in tho Craft bestir themselves . The business of tho evening being ended , Bro . Norton received tho hearty good wishes of the visiting brethren , and the Lodge waa closed with solemn

prayer . By request of the I . P . M . the brethren adjourned to tho festive board , where the usual Loyal and Masonio toaata wero briefly but appropriately put from the chair , and cordially received by the brethren . After Bro . Dickson had played an overture on the piano , Bro . Norton proposed tho health of the newl y initiated brother , and in doing so said he was proud to welcome him into our ancient and

honourable Order . He intimated that its precepts tended to make every Mason a good and worthy man . He invited the brethren to drink to the toast with full honours , which was heartily complied with . Bro . Lister gavo a song , accompanied by Bro . Dickson on tho piano . Bro . Hulme returned thanks for tho kind manner in which hia name had been received , and for tho great honour conferred on

him in admitting him a member of tho Order . He desired to attain fuller knowledge of the Craft . Bro . Bidder had control of fcho gavel to propose the toasfc of the visitors . The membera of the Do Grey ancl Ripon Lodge anticipated this toaat on all occaaiona with great pleasure . They delighted to honour tho brethren who favoured thom with thoir presence . In moafc Lodges in every

Province the toast of tho visitors was a happy ono to propose , and a cheerful one to receive . AVo give the heartiest possible welcome to visitors , and wo hail them aa our brothers , come they from abroad or from homo . The Lodge folt peculiarly happy that night in bavin" so many visiting brethren . Tho De Grey and Ripon always looked npon each attendant with a mark of esteem and appreciation .

He was glad to see the Province so truly represented there that night . The presence of P . G . Officers put tho AV . M . and Officers on their metal , as they all knew their work would bo criticised . This was a great advantage . He knew any errors or shortcominga would bo pointed out with a fraternal feeling . AVe ought to live to learn ; in tho Craft thoy could always learn if they would . He waa glad to

see so many brethren who were known for the deep interest they tako in the Craft , and without exception they rejoiced to aoo all . If tho number had been double , the welcome would be equal , if not more hearty . They wero favoured with a visit from Bro . Davies , of tho FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE . They wero greatly indebted to the Masonic Press , and the labours of the brethren employed in that

laudable pursuit for tho information they impart . They do moro to promulgate the principles of the Order than most brethren think . Ho trusted every brother would carry away with him pleasant reminiscences of his visit to the Do Grey and Ripon Lodge . Bro . Greenwood , whose arrival was warmly greeted , next presided at tho piano , and gave ono of his humorous selections , which kept the

company in roars of laughter . Bros . Rocca , AVaddell , Parker , Brown , Lister , Smith , Darvven , Jones , and Davies replied to tho toast of the visitors , by this it waa evident that many brothers wished to bestow the meed of praise which waa certainly well deserved , aa ogards the administration and working of tho Lodge , as well as for tho genuine reception extended to all the visitors . Bro . Davies

especially had reason to be grateful for the appreciative manner in which tho Masonic Press had been mentioned by Bro . Bidder . Bro . Rocca , by courtesy of tho AV . M ., hacl the honour to propose tho health of tho Officers of tho Lodge . He was sure the toast would be received with acclamation . He deeply regretted to say the AV . M . was sick and confined to his house . He was sure tho sympathy of all reached him there . He spoke most feelingly on this subject , as the winter

had been productive of sickness and bereavement in many of tho homes of the brethren . They would all nnite with him in the hopo that the Worshipful Master would soon be restored to health , and be ablo to resume his duties in the Lodge . He knew ifc waa what they all would endorse when he said that tho Officers of this Lodge knew and did thoir duty , from P . M . ' s to those who filled minor posts . Good Officers wero tho backbone of a Lodge . He did nofc know how Lodges got ; on without ablo Officers . The talent tho

Dickson had played an overture on the piano , Bro . Norton proposed tho health of the newl y initiated brother , and in doing so said he was proud to welcome him into our ancient and

honourable Order . He intimated that its precepts tended to make every Mason a good and worthy man . He invited the brethren to drink to the toast with full honours , which was heartily complied with . Bro . Lister gavo a song , accompanied by Bro . Dickson on tho piano . Bro . Hulme returned thanks for tho kind manner in which hia name had been received , and for tho great honour conferred on

him in admitting him a member of tho Order . He desired to attain fuller knowledge of the Craft . Bro . Bidder had control of fcho gavel to propose the toasfc of the visitors . The membera of the Do Grey ancl Ripon Lodge anticipated this toaat on all occaaiona with great pleasure . They delighted to honour tho brethren who favoured thom with thoir presence . In moafc Lodges in every

Province the toast of tho visitors was a happy ono to propose , and a cheerful one to receive . AVo give the heartiest possible welcome to visitors , and wo hail them aa our brothers , come they from abroad or from homo . The Lodge folt peculiarly happy that night in bavin" so many visiting brethren . Tho De Grey and Ripon always looked npon each attendant with a mark of esteem and appreciation .

He was glad to see the Province so truly represented there that night . The presence of P . G . Officers put tho AV . M . and Officers on their metal , as they all knew their work would bo criticised . This was a great advantage . He knew any errors or shortcominga would bo pointed out with a fraternal feeling . AVe ought to live to learn ; in tho Craft thoy could always learn if they would . He waa glad to

see so many brethren who were known for the deep interest they tako in the Craft , and without exception they rejoiced to aoo all . If tho number had been double , the welcome would be equal , if not more hearty . They wero favoured with a visit from Bro . Davies , of tho FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE . They wero greatly indebted to the Masonic Press , and the labours of the brethren employed in that

laudable pursuit for tho information they impart . They do moro to promulgate the principles of the Order than most brethren think . Ho trusted every brother would carry away with him pleasant reminiscences of his visit to the Do Grey and Ripon Lodge . Bro . Greenwood , whose arrival was warmly greeted , next presided at tho piano , and gave ono of his humorous selections , which kept the

company in roars of laughter . Bros . Rocca , AVaddell , Parker , Brown , Lister , Smith , Darvven , Jones , and Davies replied to tho toast of the visitors , by this it waa evident that many brothers wished to bestow the meed of praise which waa certainly well deserved , aa ogards the administration and working of tho Lodge , as well as for tho genuine reception extended to all the visitors . Bro . Davies

especially had reason to be grateful for the appreciative manner in which tho Masonic Press had been mentioned by Bro . Bidder . Bro . Rocca , by courtesy of tho AV . M ., hacl the honour to propose tho health of tho Officers of tho Lodge . He was sure the toast would be received with acclamation . He deeply regretted to say the AV . M . was sick and confined to his house . He was sure tho sympathy of all reached him there . He spoke most feelingly on this subject , as the winter

had been productive of sickness and bereavement in many of tho homes of the brethren . They would all nnite with him in the hopo that the Worshipful Master would soon be restored to health , and be ablo to resume his duties in the Lodge . He knew ifc waa what they all would endorse when he said that tho Officers of this Lodge knew and did thoir duty , from P . M . ' s to those who filled minor posts . Good Officers wero tho backbone of a Lodge . He did nofc know how Lodges got ; on without ablo Officers . The talent tho
